A nation is a body of people who share a real or imagined common history, culture, language or ethnic origin, who typically inhabit a particular country or territory.

Some people say that there is not such a nation as American or it is better to say it is an “imagined nation”.  Is it true?

Do we have a common history? No, we don’t. The vast majority of us are descendents of immigrants. Our parents, grand parents, great grand parents, etc. are from Europe, Asia and so on. So it means they shared the history of their ancestors and what about us?

Language: We share American English (by the way… many people don’t even know that there is difference between American and British English) that doesn’t have proper grammar and the quantity of slang words is impressive. But it is difficult to say that now  we all share one language because Spanish speaking citizens are more from year to year and guess what … they don’t care to learn English, they think that we English speaking citizens should learn Spanish to make their life easier.  We don’t have a common history and soon we will not have a common language.

Culture: Is there really an  “American Culture”  when the country is made up of so many different races and languages from all over the world?

Ethnic  Origin:  The majority of us have at least 2 if not 3, 4 or more different blood mixes.

Either we moved from another country or either our ancestors moved here so we are all immigrants even in 2nd or 3rd or more generations. We inhabit this land right now but not in past. So is it correct to say that we typically inhabit land?

For a very simple example: You can buy a box of mashed potato’s and make mashed potato’s without a real potato but will it be the same as mashed potato’s  from a real 100% potato? No, it will not. It is a “chemical substitute” that was made in a factory to make our lives easier. Is it the same with an American Nation?  Indigenous American Indians are the only ones that can be called Native Americans and all others are just a “chemical substitute”?

On the other hand our ancestors created such a strong country that we can be proud of. And in spite of we are called a Nation of Fat people, Country of the biggest Christian Hypocrites, Country without history and with no culture… Who cares? We still LOVE it. God Bless All Your Hearts. God Bless America!!

In conclusion:  Who are we?

This is a really good blog; most Americans on this site are very critical of immigrants and refuse to recognise that America doesn’t really have much culture or history. It’s very refreshing to read an alternative point of view.

I like immigrants, but not the illegals!

Well ... you can do nothing about illegal immigrants, they are in every country.

Many Americans think of Thanksgiving as a wonderful time to celebrate getting out of school for a long weekend, and eating a great dinner. Or, maybe they think it is the start of the Christmas holiday season. What is the real meaning behind Thanksgiving?...
