oh honey is it ever,...texas country is its own monster and while we've
loaned some of our brightest stars to nashville, texas has retained a
reputation of having some of the finest singer song writters in the
country
they dont call austin the live music capitol of the world for nothing,...
texas is the land of guy clark, steve earle, jerry jeff walker, kris
kristpherson,waylon jennings, rodney crowell, .....willie
nelson,....TOWNES VAN ZANDT
they are kinda the 'old gaurd'
back around 1995 the texas country music scene had a huge revival with
the sucess of pat green,....and robert earl keen before that,....before
pat recorded his first nashville album he opened the door and ignited a
fire in every college kid that could play a guitar,....
texas music is synonomous with a story,...be it one of heart break, or a good time
normally its the latter
state pride is another prominate subject matter,....
this resinates with the texas country fan, who can often be described as rabid,....
i'm not nearlly as rabid as i once was,...but i still take it pretty seriously,...
than fan base supports the music and provides the oppertunity for many up and commers as well as those seasoned in the scene
my biggest gripe right now is that so many of the now 'mainstream'
texas country fans have no idea where the genre even comes
from,....they think its all stock yard and beer drinkin,.....they dont
understand the influences in song writting,.....the
tradition,......just where it comes from,....and that saddens me,
specially as the older i get the more i rely on the old gaurd
but most fans view it as a family,.....most of us are pretty young,.... and there's just something about eatin ramen noodles for a week just so you can afford to hit three shows a weekend that forms a bond,.....
its about the road trip, and the friends you meet on the way,......and though you may live across the state, you know you'll run into them at another show somewhere down the road
i think pat green said it best in i like texas, when he said 'its a two day old burrito, and a luke warm beer to go, on the sunday side of a road trip weekend and lordy i was feelin so low, when somebody fliped on the juke box and i hear ol bob wills say 'wont you stay all night, stay alittle longer' and i held on another day'
that really sums up the feelin of the fans of the scene
there's also alot of musicans that flock here from oklahoma, la,
alabama, hell reckless kelly is from idaho,.....we even have people
forgo nashville for austin,.....
texas country could be a subgenre of alt country,.....just with more a regional flair,....
there's a reason why they make the bumper sticker that says 'i'm not from texas but i got here as soon as i can'
anyway i could go on and on and on if y'alled let me, but for now i'll just leave ya with some tunes
