Going to bed.
Gaslaus tilbúin í rúmmið.

This day we left the north country.  There was a north wind over the whole country and it was getting colder. We had had luck with weather and had all the time.

We did not want to go to the east country. It was cold there. So we decided to go in the direction home. It would be easier for the kids if we did not have to drive so long as when we came north.

Before we went we shifted the camper to a place where we could fill it's batteries. Pálmi had to get an extension cord at the farm and he gave his driving licence as a security. The plug we had did not fit.

We loaded for  one and a half hour. Pálmi had to give the cord back at 12 because the office was closed from 12-3.

We set off at 1.

Gummi our son was playing with his group at a festival in the north and he drove past our camper on the way home  without knowing it. He phoned  us when he was 10 minutes away but he could not come and see  us and his children as he was driving some foreigners who were in a hurry.

We drove past the first road restaurant where we meant to eat as the children had fallen asleep.

About an or or hour and a half we came to the next one and ate.
Later we came to another road shop, got gas or petrol if you will and some information.

We went to a camping place near by and it was empty. No one there. Finally Pálmi who always wanted to pay right away found a girl who said it was closed on Mondays but we could just camp and tomorrow they would either let or pay or not.

The next day some men were working in hey on the lot and Pálmi insisted on paying. They had not approached us at all.

We started camping and we found out that we had no electric, and we had been loading. The gas would not work. The radiator not heat up.

Finally Pálmi got the cooker to heat up and we used it to heat up the camper. Then suddenly the electric  came on and finally the radiator or the gas heater that blew warm air for us.

We had some soup and sandwiches and started playing cards. It was the last game before the children should go to sleep. Freyja said  it is cold the  heater does not work. So Pálmi put a flame on the gas cooker and said this is our gas. The flame died. The gas container was empty.

I could not but laugh at Pálmis words. The thing is we did not know how long a container like that lasts.

Now we went to the little road shop near by. It was 11 and it was closed. We went to a town near by. It is on the main road and one should thing that they had open but no. We came there at 11.20 and it was closed.

All we got out of this was to see how beautiful the evening was. Now I have to draft this and use another browser to put pictures in. You will see how we were dressed when we  went to bed.

Wow you must have been cold sleeping for sure that night!  Sorry that you didn't have those little luxuries, but as you more or less indicated a couple of posts back, if it weren't for these little slip ups you wouldn't have any memories worth sharing.  This one will definitely go down in the book for you guys I'm sure, and in the future if you should ever decide to make the trek again ... well, you'll know what to be prepared for!  That is just beautiful countryside in those pictures by the way.  I can almost smell the fresh, clean air.

Thor does not look very happy LOL.  First I thought you all were just posing in some costumes for the picture!!  hahaha... yes, I bet it was a bit cold sleeping!  I love the old underground houses.  It reminds me of the ones I saw in the museum we went to.  thanks for sharing your stories my friend.

Secret.   I don't want to give away the continuation but well......
Hegemone.  Yes you are right except I forgot one thing, I like seeing new things or at least landscapes I have not seen for a long time. This is a thing to remember and I will always remember how beautiful the late evening was.
Uni  As a girl guide from the age of 10 I slept on the bare ground in tents with 10C or something. Was never cold but I did not especially want to repeat it now.

Yes those  houses are traditional and I think they are pretty even though those are just some out houses,  not for people.

Quiet. Guess he was not. I don't know. I was not really but you will hear tomorrow how it was all. Thanks Quiet

Thanks to quietone, I now see the underground houses!  Wow!  Sounds like a lot of trouble to stay warm, but also very much worth it!  What an adventure!  Hey, Queen could have made you an extension cord for nothing!   Ha!

Wombie. Lol I guess her cord would not have done the job, we needed a specail one because the sucket was not like yours. lol and those are outdoor cords, think and so on.
I think those houses are no underground houses. Could be but they are only some out houses some store rooms or so but in the old Icelandic style. Wombie I don't mean to sound negative. Thanks so much for the comment you funny lady, you.
