We used the day for sightseeing and stopped first at this bore hole. Hope you like the pictures I have selected for you.

We came to a hot spring area. Námafjall.

We are going to take a walk abround a volcano. Looking over the newly lava.
Á leiðinni

Leirhnjúkur

There you can see the difference in colours and the back substance there is the lava.
Á leiðinni að Leirhnjúki.

By the volcano Leirhnjúkur which erupted 30 years ago. We walked around it.
Við Leirhnjúk.

The lava is still hot there after over 30 years.

Outside the cave Grjótagjá. We don't know the people in the picture.
Grjótagjá

It is difficult to see it but this is a cave with hot water. In the old days people could swim there but about 30 years ago in the so called Krafla fires, eruptions, the water changed and became too hot. We looked in there.
Grjótagjá.

We came to Dimmuborgir by Mývatn and afer a walk in the strange lave we came to the so called church.
Kirkjan, Dimmuborgum

The siblings were so happy, they were dancing.
Systining dansa í Dimmuborgum.

We ended our sightseeing there in Dimmuborgir and the troll looked sinester in my eyes.

Wow that was yet another round of eye catching, bright, beautiful pictures!  That boiling clay was really interesting, and the tidbit of information about that water hole that people used to swim in turning hot and making it impossible was interesting too.  Makes me want to learn a little more.  Love the formations in the last photo too.  I feel so lucky that you're sharing your trip with all of us!  Thank you for doing so.

Hegemone. About the cave where people used to swim. It had two compartments and women used to swim in one naket men in the other as people were travelling. I bet many had swim suits too. lol Where the fromation is,  there are loads of them and we were talking about that it would not be nice to get lost there in dark. Especially not in the old days. Thanks you so much for your comment and I am so glad that you like it.

Awsome pictures, the water looks great, and i love how the last piture looks like a bear. Can you swim in the hot clay? Id so want to visit there one day, where is it?
  • skald said on Jul 20, 2009....
Unicorn. It is funny how it looks like a bear on the picture. In realiy it looked to me like a very bad man. lol
No you can not swim in the clay. The clay is very hot and dagerous. One would get very burned and possilly die if one fell into the clay. The area is dagerous and therefore, have planks been put there and people are not allwed to walk outside them. Thanks so much for your comment.

I've always enjoyed your posts. Loved the photos and it's like I've been to Iceland but didn't have to pay for an airline ticket. I lived in Alaska and love the far north, except the winters should be about 2 months shorter.

Buckrogers.  lol I agree about the winters except the tow last were good and short. I hate it when we still have cold weather in June. As this is an island the weather is so very changeable.

I bet it is warm all summer in Alaska but one never knows here. Now the weather is wonderful with 20 C and that is how I would like it to be. Still we feel like abroad when the weather is like that. lol Thanks for the comment.
