Kikjan á Akureyri

Götumynd.

Ráðhústorgið.

Kirkjutröppuhlaup.

Sigurhæðir.

Akureyri.

I woke up at 5 am. It was too bright and too hot. I could not sleep and I saw that Pálmi was trying to sleep with his pillow over his head.

At 7 I went down to the toilets. They were far from us. When I came back Pálmi put a cover over the gable of the tent and we could sleep some more.

I did not wake up until 10.30,  We woke the children. They had slept well.

My friend visited us and in the  afternoon we went to town. It was full of life. I did not feel warm because of the sea breeze  but we had 15 C.

There was a sports celebration in town and there was a competition running up the stairs of the church. We staid there long and looked.

We went to a restaurant and had a pizza.
And we walked around. Freyja and I took a lot of pictures.

We had had all kind of beginners trouble with the van. The cooker would not light. The radio would not  open and so on. I was not too pleased. But this all sorted it self out.

We bought a mattress for me in town because of my back.

When we came back to the camping place I tried to fill the batteries of the camera. I waited for an hour by the toilets. I would not leave my camera there but I did in all the other places we went to.

I gave up after an hour but the children were happy at the playground.
We went for a walk in the evening. Akureyri is so beautiful and the sun was shining at midnight.

When we came back there were a lot of little tents around us. Two by our  door. Many young people had arrived and they were loud. I wondered if we would get some peace to sleep.

PS. I have been haveing such trouble posting. I don't know if I can post anymore. My pictures appear many times each and the written material too
This is the last try

Thanks for posting, skald!  I know how frustrating it could get when you are trying to edit pictures, and formatting text with it, how utterly irritating it could be when it does not show right away in one go.  I am glad you did not give up, they are a joy to see. :)

I love the colour blue, as I just commented in queenie´s post, and it seems it is the colour that prevailed in your post :) .

Piet sleeps like Pálmi too, with pillows over his head!  I am missing J, oldest daughter as you mentioned Freyja taking as much pictures as you did.  J is now a passionate photographer herself.  I am thinking of buying her a nice camera for her 10th birthday :)

Ich hoffe Du erholst Dich weiterhin, und daß Dein Temperatur nicht mehr all zu hoch ist.

    Liebe Grüße, Jo

  • skald said on Jul 18, 2009....
Yes, dear Jo it was so irritating. The pictures came sixfold and the text too. One picture appeared I don't know how many times. I tried to cut and found out after having cut about 40 times that the text was manyfold too.

After the second try I used another browser but It does not correct the spelling. lol
The colour blue is prevailing in Iceland, that is right.

Your girls are lovely and I bet she is a good photographer. Would like to see some pictures from her one day.

My temperature is still hight but I feel much better. Yesterday I could not do anything but sleep. Freyja has this too now. Then all the four of us have had it Þór started when we were just about to go home. Poor lad he was so sick.

(((huggies)))  I am so glad you are feeling much better, skald!  So sorry you all were/are under the weather. :(

I will post the pictures on J´s page after I get back from my trip to Germany.  I might to do it earlier, I am still not sure.  There are so many things going on (kitchen/flat renovation, Piet´s son stayed with us for 10 days, I am going to Germany... the consulate I was going to in Hamburg, I just found out has been closed last March, so I have to go to Berlin if I don´t want to wait...now, I am looking for a hotel in the area of Wilmersdorf...), that I am glad to keep my head on my shoulder and not lose it!

So you see, looking at your pictures and reading your blog has been very restful for me :) .  You have a style of writing, that is very soothing, combined with the images of Iceland - perfect!

Again, sending you, and the rest of the family good thoughts, be well!

  • skald said on Jul 18, 2009....
Sorry that everything is so busy. I am looking forward to see her pictures. Willmersdorf is a nice part of Berlin. Yes, you are a smart girl and you can very well keep you head on your shoulders. I am looking forward to talking to you as we play the games on Facebook.

Thank you for you very kind words. You are really too good. :-)

    Skald......thanks for your pictures...:-)

They always give me so many info about your country and culture...

The first thing i noticed has been that vibrant blue on the building walls and the relaxed athmosphere so similar to the one i can experience in my country.
Your kids are very lucky to travel around...:-)
  • skald said on Jul 18, 2009....
Ginger  but it is so much warmer in your country. Still there might be similarities. I still would love to go to your country and who knows maybe I will go some day.
    Thanks so much Ginger. :-)

skald - the pictures are so lovely and clear and those blues are gorgeous.....the sea, the sky!  but i can't imagine daylight at midnight.  it might be fun for a few days, but after that i'd long for the coolness of evening....

your grandchildren are growing!  they've gotten taller....

how is your mom doing?  i hope she is well.

  • skald said on Jul 18, 2009....
Secret. My mom is getting weaker but she is satisfied and everyone loves her at the nursing home because of her good temper.

she is often in a wheelchair now because she keeps on falling.

I was wondering about your sister but I did not dare to ask. My first friend Systa is dying of cancer and I visit her once a week.

It is all right to have daylight 24 hours. We have darker curtains and that is good. In the camper the sun shone in  my face and it was not nice. Would not happen in a house.
Then Akureyri is even further north and I see the difference. It is brighter there than here at this time of year.
Yes, the children have grown. Thank you so much Secret

Hello Skald. How lovely to see you here. I miss looking at your beautiful photos and these are especially nice. So clear. Just perfect. I hope you are well and I thank you for visiting and leaving the pictures.

i'm glad to hear you still have your mom with you skald.   it's hard to watch them age and become weaker and weaker.  and then falling is such an awful thing with brittle bones that don't heal quickly-  but it's so nice to keep them with us....

i'm sorry about your friend systa.  cancer is a terrible disease.  i'm sure she really appreciates seeing you every week.....it's important to know that even if you're sick, life goes on, and you bring life into her world by visiting.

my sister is the same skald.  she is in bed all the time except when i take her to doctors visits and i have to use a lift to get her out.  we tried a new drug for the paralysis but it did not work.....she is still on it for several weeks, but there has been no change at all.

it's difficult for my mother who cares for her at home with help of home health aides and then all of the family takes turns.  i'm here today.  i stay on tuesday, thursday and saturday to give my mother a break.

what a fun vacation---camping.  i'll bet those kids are having a ball!

i'm so happy to see you back posting again.....

It's all so beautiful there!  I love the building with the odd shaped layers at each end.  Was that the church?  The people of the town make me smile.  I enjoy days like that when everyone is gathered, roaming around and having a nice time together.  The camping part sounds like a real adventure it itself!  Sorry to go on and read that some sort of illness bug has gotten in the way.  Hope you all feel better soon!
  • skald said on Jul 19, 2009....
