I had hoped that my paycheck this week wouldn't get obliterated by financial obligations.  I'm not sure why, since it almost always is true that it is.  However, not all is lost.  I may not have "free money" to spend, but I do live where I can still have an enjoyable weekend without too much cost.  Instead of the trip up north perhaps I will do day trips to the coast and go scout out some new beaches.  If I follow the highway enough to the south I might even end up in Santa Cruz where they have a beach boardwalk.

What are your plans for the weekend?  For our US bloggers, are you planning any special activities?

That's just what hubby and I have been doing uni (I'm on sick leave at the moment with depression but walking is really helping).  We just put some sandwiches, a flask of coffee, some crisps (potato chips) and the binoculars into a little backpack and head off to one of the local beaches or a nature trail walk by the canals.  It's virtually free and helps the mind and body too.

Mother Nature is so beautiful yet free :-)

I do wish you all a wonderful 4th of July!
  • uniquely-ironic said on Jul 02, 2009....
puss - walking is one of my favorite things.  I often grab the camera, layers of clothes and a few dollars for the deli and head out.  Cheap and wonderful!
  • pusscat said on Jul 02, 2009....
Oh what I wouldn't give right now to be needing a 'few layers of clothing' lol!  It's been 30 here (that's hot for the UK ha ha) as we're having a heat-wave.  At least I'll have a tan for a change :-)

Well on Saturday hubby and I are going to see Jane Rutter, she has a trio with her pianist and soprano singer, they're doing romantics.

I can't wait, a little bit of culture and its just around the corner!
  • uniquely-ironic said on Jul 02, 2009....
puss - even in the middle of our "heat waves" the area I live in almost always has fog in the morning and it gets "cool" in the evenings.  I do appreciate it.

Lu - that sounds fun!  It's been a while since I've gone to a concert.  I think the last one I went to was years ago.
  • Lucytorial said on Jul 02, 2009....
Its my dastardly plan to get a bit of culture in both of us.  There is another one coming up in Aug.  An opera "Madam Butterfly".

Jane Rutter is a supreme flutist, she's fabulous so this romantics journey shoudl be very good especially considering she has a pianist and soprano with her.
  • uniquely-ironic said on Jul 02, 2009....
Lu - the trio sounds great!  I was lucky enough to attend the Nutcracker a few years ago, so I got both orchestra and dance in the same dose!
  • Lucytorial said on Jul 02, 2009....
I've always loved opera and orchestral shows, it doesn't happen up here that often so I spent a few hundred on the tickets and dinner.
  • uniquely-ironic said on Jul 02, 2009....
Lu - well worth it!  I know that the few times I've gone have been highlights in my life.  You cannot capture the true sound of stringed instruments on any type of media, and the emotion can be heady.
  • Lucytorial said on Jul 02, 2009....
Totally worth it, although I wish I were in Sydney where I could go to opera and orchestra in the park for free! this is the price I pay for living where I do.  So $400 on two dinners and shows is not that much at all.
  • uniquely-ironic said on Jul 02, 2009....
Lu - more than my budget bears, but still worth it.  I'm lucky in that with a little research I can find park or street concerts pretty easily where I live.
  • Lucytorial said on Jul 02, 2009....
**sigh** I know, thats the best part of living in a grey forest.
  • uniquely-ironic said on Jul 02, 2009....
one of the very few best parts.

Rest, fireworks, watching hubby fish, sight-seeing.....did I mention rest?

Man, my life is boring. He travels all week and doesn't feel up to long drives on the weekend, dang it.  I want to go to the coast, see lighthouses, boardwalks and new people.

  • uniquely-ironic said on Jul 02, 2009....
wombie - I used to be a homebody when my work involved travel.  Now of course the opposite is true.  It's a real balancing act.
  • wombat said on Jul 02, 2009....

But it sure sucks when our energy levels don't mesh.  I am too tired to want to go get an ice cream, but bitch when I can't go 40 miles away the next day.  He gripes when I won't go visit his relatives over the weekend, but I get ticked when he wants to go to bed early and won't shoot the breeze with me when I'm full of gossip.

    Awe...these are the days....

  • uniquely-ironic said on Jul 02, 2009....
wombie - yes, I've run across that problem before.  It's tough and I suck at trying to suck it up and go the extra mile when I'm not up to something.

I'm all out of funds :(

Princess will be at her mums Saturday night and sunday and I have no idea what I'm going to do with myself. It could be a sit around the house reading and daydreaming weekend. HMMMM that doesn't sound too bad lol
  • uniquely-ironic said on Jul 02, 2009....
super - I see we have the same social secretary! LOL  if you're close to the beach ....
  • superbozo said on Jul 02, 2009....
I might head for the beach. It's been a while. I was gonna save that till next weekend though and take princess to this little wildlife sanctury on the way to Byfield. I think lazing around will do just fine.
  • uniquely-ironic said on Jul 02, 2009....
super - lazing around is highly underrated.
  • superbozo said on Jul 02, 2009....
Not by me it isn't :)
  • uniquely-ironic said on Jul 02, 2009....
    super - LOL I suppose that's true :)

I think we are going to go downtown for the festival they have downtown. It starts tomorrow, but we will probably only go on Saturday. (I think we are going to spend part of day tomorrow stripping wallpaper out of the dining room so we can paint it. And we may be staining the deck and patio furniture if it's not raining.) They have a Battle of the Bands, the Clydesdales will be there, and there will we an Air Force or Navy (I can't remember which) flyover down the river). They also have a whole slew of food vendors and beer gardens along with a children's area with face-painting and the like. Then they will have the fireworks show.

I was reading through the list of food vendors and their offerings today. One of the vendors is selling deep-fried twinkies drizzled with chocolate. I swear I felt a couple of arteries clogging up as I was reading that.
  • uniquely-ironic said on Jul 03, 2009....
Z - the festival sounds great!  I love town festivals with all their wickedly heart stopping foods.  I'm not sure that I envy you the wallpaper stripping though.

    Happy 4th to ALL!
Here to the we can do it!

I too am taking a brake from all the bullshit!  I have loss my job on monday (see my last post for the details!)  and have had four interviews and fill out 45 application this week!   I am in the running for a District auditor,  I have the background , there is one person that need to given me a thumbs up on me. This pays so much better then the old job!  I am waiting for my youngest son to come up from the NYC. His girlfriend is work at another summercamp and will spent the 4th down state. My girlfriend, son and I are going to see  a Beatles want-to be band before the fireworks.  on the fouth to the lake for some kayaking.   Did see the sun for the first time in 8 days this AM but some darkness is to the south.  Son is going to work Sunday to his summer camp and hope that he find a teaching job late this summer.  I would love some comment on my last posting as it is a big thing in my life for now!
  • uniquely-ironic said on Jul 03, 2009....
bewel - sounds like you have a busy weekend planned.  That sound hopeful about the job you're running for.  I wish you the best of luck!
  • queenparanoia said on Jul 03, 2009....

queenie - that sounds like a nice relaxing weekend!

My parents are having their annual July 4th bbq.  My dad has quite a reputation for his smoked meats.  There will be lots of food, family, friends and fun.  I look forward to it more than Christmas!

  • uniquely-ironic said on Jul 03, 2009....
CW - well, it sounds like a lot more fun than Christmas! LOL  I'm a little envious.
  • Zayda said on Jul 03, 2009....
U-I: Well, it was a nice day out, warm with a bit of a breeze, so instead of doing inside work on the house (stripping wallpaper) we stained all the patio furniture and the porch swing.

Tomorrow, we are going to go to the battle of the bands and the 4th of July celebration. I think I might just have that deep-fried twinkie!
  • uniquely-ironic said on Jul 03, 2009....
Z - oooh do tell me about it if you do!  I'm so intrigued!  The outdoor work sounds hard.  I bet the goofing off tomorrow will be very welcome!
  • Hegemone said on Jul 03, 2009....
Eek, sorry I was so late to the party.  Doing some late night catch up before tomorrow's BBQ and bonfire, which are our 4th of July plans.
  • Zayda said on Jul 03, 2009....
U-I: Honestly, staining the wooden patio furniture wasn't as hard as stripping wallpaper is. It's all the tree trimming that needs to be done soon that I am not looking forward to.
  • uniquely-ironic said on Jul 04, 2009....
Hege - a BBQ and bonfire sounds perfect!  Have a lot of fun!

Z - I usually get distracted when I'm supposed to be trimming trees.  Somehow I end up in the tree goofing off and day dreaming.
