The page you were looking for no longer exists

last night while waiting for a friend to come online i ended up striking a strange conversation with someone on religion...well i am not overtly fond of religion, apart from a knowledge and cynical interest basics...hey i believe in god, in fact i have a better relationship with him/her than i apparently had with my shrink, and yeah without exchanging any dough also, i just don't believe in any religious god...i pray to all of them, you never know who might be in a good mood and free... :-)
my belief for religion is a simple one...religion is just a game of numbers and idiots...well number because every religion basically survives on "safety in numbers", and that's why no religion will ever legalize homosexuality, cause it doesn't increase the numbers...and idiots because you have to be an idiot to believe in something with any questions...

so here i am to bitch about religions...not just others, mine too :-) ...i am such a socialist :-) ...and yeah this is all the consequence of too much 'jesusandmo'-ing...and yeah there also one sane reason for it...off course there has to be a reason, i am not mentally unhinged, or rather not mentally unhinged most of the time...well religions are into black or white, either you are a real good person can go to heaven, or a bad person and get tortured in your version of hell...hey what happened to halfway-houses?? minimum security prisons with TV and laptops and personal space for us lowly sinners and just an hour or two being tortured for our sins...

Christianity...what a bunch of crap...i got tortured to a convent school for 12 years so i know best...Jesus was born to a virgin, yeah real new words of illegitimacy...not that i have anything against illegitimacy but the Papal certainly does...well he walked on water, its trick photography, you just cant see the water skis...i watched stigmata (the crappy movie) so i kinda know what happened to the poor child of God...and then resurrection, in modern times we call them ghosts and zombies :-) ...poor guy couldn't have a personal life, cause he was a child of God, thus you cant have Godly DNA floating around in the masses, so as far as mythology goes the guy wasn't into chicks...yeah imagine God's DNA floating around, they mite have made the DNA-ites "creme de la creme" of the human race, and then there would have been those major expectations from those poor people...Judas betrayed Jesus and committed suicide from the guilt...yeah i bet without being betrayed, Jesus would have reached his epic proportions...**snicker snicker**...

lets not go into Islam...altogether...i got two Muslim friends who are apparently overt believers...yeah i know all kinds...anyways just one thingy about Islam that i got to know recently...after death you just walk on and walk on a really thin road and walk until kingdom come...OMG wasn't dying bad enough, now you have to walk also, so if you a religious Muslim just make sure you are not lazy, obese or impatient...thank god i am not a Muslim, i would probably die a lot of times with the suspense (got some emotional issues with curiosity)...

now my religion...i am a Hindu...sadly i got too much fodder here, too much, this might just turn into several pages...well most religions look down at pagan worshiping, but we are so so into it...Hinduism usually reminds me of C.S.Lewis The Magician Nephew...the time when Aslan is handing out gifts to the creatures...yeah some Hindu high priest looks at a river and thinks "provides clean water,-so now you are the River Goddess", looks at the Sun "provide warmth, light--Sun God", and it so goes now...**snicker snicker**...i watch Hollywood movies and think of Hinduism...yeah Hollywood you just created X-Men...Wolverine might be good looking, but Ganesha has been around for centuries and he's two massive ears and a truck also...i can go on and on, on this topic but i don't think that's wise...

WW

P.S.->if you a religious fanatic, do try and leave me alone...because i look at all religions with disdain, not just your...and in China that's a form of government (disdain)...and yeah if i am wrong somewhere, sorry...

    wired girl, hey.
if you don't know it yet, friend, i'm an atheist.
no ifs and buts, no qualifications, just a simple label you can tag on me anytime with accuracy: i'm an atheist.
so there. i'm afraid i won't leave you alone... :-)

    hey moonriver,
read the blog, each and every word...ouch, i am not exactly into reading, i barely i am able to re-read my blogs and edit them :-(
somehow i happen to think that childhood tends to romanticize almost everything because of the innocence inside us...so i guess your childhood interest in religion can be seen that way :-) ...that's my point of view, don't kill me...
somewhere i am a believer, just not a blind believer...i believe because i guess i need to believe, the past five years taught me that (rather messed up my non-believing DNA) :-(
long time back i wrote a blog on God before... My conversations with God which is a memory-dump blog on God... :-) ...it is a step-by-step monologue on my dis-initiation with religion :-) ...
i have never been into religion, probably never can be i hope...but i do prefer to believe that there is an entity i can crib about... :-) ...apart from being into mythology, which is fun and fascinating for me (there also my interest is usually limited to logically dismantling the fiction), i don't have much time for religions...
and anyways if you want to read something funny check this out
Jesus and Mo the first time i read it, i heard Joan Osborne singing "One of Us" in my ears... :-)

How I disdain people who out of sheer willful ignorance generalize across all religions based on their own myopic theological viewpoint.

Just because you were exposed to Roman Catholicism as a child, you think that's the end-all be-all of Christian theology? You think that the literalist theological pablum you were fed as a child is everything there is to know about the Gospel?

Whatever. Maybe try digging a bit deeper before you go around expressing disdain for the world's four billion believers. Or maybe never mind. You and your ilk will simply go through life believing in your heart of hearts that you're so enlightened and so modern and so rational and that everyone who thinks differently than you do is either ignorant or unquestioning. Just understand that you have been put on notice - you are far more ignorant for disdaining others without pondering the questions (ok - pondering them in a shallow, flippant way) or searching for answers on your own.
  • Weird_World said on Jul 01, 2009....
    hey curmudgeon,
i have searched for my answers, so don't worry about me...and strangely as you seem to know your religion pretty well it must have provided you with all the answers i am sure...if it hasn't, then its time to hit the ole books again...
i waste time on religion for sheer fun, so lets not even got there...i went to a Catholic school for 10 years, and 2 years i went to a Protestant School...and that makes it 12 years of Moral Science classes...my best friend in school was a Muslim so that's how i know the few basics of Islam...and yeah I am a Hindu by birth who has spend quite a lot of time on my religious "epics" strangely they didn't provide me with any answers...
and yeah off course i am flippant about it, i do tend to question everything i hear on a regular basis, or maybe it is just the exuberance of youth... :-)

there are not 4 billion christians in the world, there are 2.1 billion, and 1.1 billion of those are catholics, a division that curmudgeon, alienated, d6fer and others on this site regularly discount as 'not christian'. that leaves 1 billion protestant christians, less than the number of islamists. i understand curmudgeon's error though, his religion is prone to exageration.

    psst. wired girl.
i think curmudgeon is partly addressing me too.
me and others of my atheist ilk.
but, mr curmudgeon sir, didnt you read my blog (with link provided above)?
it's my obsession with catholic statuaries that made me myopic, in a quite literal sense... ;-p

Aw - a courageous anonymous response.

    2 billion Christians
1 billion Hindus give or take
    1 billion Muslims

That's four billion adherents in the major streams of religious belief. You see, anonymous, Wierd World has disdain for them all. I also disdain folks who don't even have the courage to give themselves a name before taking silly potshots. Pathetic.

Actually, by immersing myself in the faith I have chosen later in life, I have come up with more questions than answers. The answers I thought I had led to more mysteries. One thing I have learned is to not disdain others for their holding to their beliefs - just those irreverent morons who think they know better than anyone else. I have plenty of respect for atheists and agnostics so long as they don't transgress into telling other folks how wrong they are for believing as they do. They're every bit as selfish and prejudiced as the fellows who go around telling non-believers they're going to hell for not doing this or that.

moonriver - didn't read your blog. will do sometime in the future. Again - Catholic dogma is not the end all be all of Christian thought. Nor do all Christians necessarily take the Bible literally, or subject themselves to credal church polity. It's plainly ridiculous to conclude that God doesn't exist and that religion is useless and that religious adherents are misguided based on your own very limited viewpoint.

Do what works for you, but quit trashing others for doing what works for them.

OK - Not feeling good here about my snotty responses so far. I apologize for being a...well, a curmudgeon. Suffice it to say that I respect folks for what they believe but get my shorts twisted when they start saying I'm deluded or ignorant or whatever simply for believing as I do.

Being part of a religion has given me a new outlook and a new lease on life that agnosticism and other forms of spiritual practice hadn't. I didn't arrive at my beliefs in anything close to an unthinking way, and I ponder this belief system and this lifestyle and communal polity every single day. So I get a bit insulted when folks just take all I've worked for over the last six years and toss it over - and so often its folks who were raised in a religious setting, came up with questions their teachers couldn't answer and then just threw it all out the window rather than look for better teachers or forms of spirituality that resonated with them and then committed themselves to it.

I look forward to more discussions and will attempt to be civil in the future.

I still disdain anonymous responders, though. No apologies to you, scaredy cat!

    hey moonriver,
i think curmudgeon is trying to be nasty to everyone who doesn't believe, and says they have the guts not to believe...maybe i am wrong, but somewhere there is always the chance that maybe i am right, or partly right...i do prefer to live in that self-belief...

    hey curmudgeon,
this blog was written on humorous terms and was totally my opinion...and i don't believe in taking flak for my opinion from anyone, especially as i mentioned in the teaser that it is not for the faint-hearted...i believe cause i have thought and thought most things out and decided to believe in what i apparently believe...
and i am not going to start believing in religion even if it provided me with answers...history (and the present) has given enough examples that religion becomes very very very evil in the hands of the charismatic deluded...from the crusades, to each incident of ethnic cleansing, to the shows of religious superiority every now and then in terms of force, religion has proved what it can do to believers and i am not going to be one of them...
i question because i want to search out the answers on my own, not through crutches...and even if i wanted crutches, religion wont be mine...

I agree with you, Weird world.

My christian friends sometimes drive me crazy with their beliefs. So many of em..which doesn't make sense to me. Ofcourse its their religion & I do respect their beliefs. But I personally find em ridiculous.

Islam..lets' just not talk about it. If I'm a married muslim, my husband can utter the word 'talaaq' on the phone three days & that would be the end of my marriage. Excuse me? Wtf??

Hinduism..Lol! I'm a Hindu myself & one thing I'm really confused about is..which God do I pray to? So suppose I'm going for an exam..am I supposed to pray to lord Ganesha (who removes all obstacles) & the Goddess of knowledge? Isnt that gonna take a lotta time? ISKCON says Lord Krishna is the supreme head of all Gods..but I'll need a lil more info on that to actually believe in it.

I'm not an atheist. I'm a Hindu & though not a staunch believer..I do respect all religions cuz all of them make sense in one way or the other. But every religion is a lil funny too :P

    hey gingersoul,
    how you doing??

    hey babygurl21690,
i got some religious friends (i know all strange varieties), whenever they start the topic on religion i usually tell them to shut up before i get into my best blasphemous form...
every religion is developed on the quirks of the strange men i feel...
anyways remember an incident from college...a friend of mine told me to pray about something turning me nuts and i told him to get me a encyclopedia on Hinduism where i can search out which Hindu God would be most suitable for my goal-achievement-cribbing...
