A laptop battery works in much the same way as batteries that go into portable CD players, remote controls, and shower radios. Just like the laptop battery used in these household items, laptop batteries come in different sizes based upon the size of the laptop. Laptop battery however, contain within them complex charging circuitry that works together with a laptop’s hardware.
Handle used rechargeable batteries with care. Depleted rechargeable laptop batteries may still contain a residual charge. They can short-circuit and become hot if their terminals come in contact with another laptop battery’s terminal during storage and shipping.
To minimize any risks, place ONE laptop battery, or cell phone with battery, per ONE plastic bag. Place each individual laptop battery or cell phone into a separate plastic bag. RBRC branded plastic bags can be found accompanying RBRC’s collection boxes. If plastic bags are unavailable, cover the laptop battery terminals with tape (electrical, duct, or masking) or seek assistance from store clerk.
Prior to placing used laptop battery or cell phone into collection box, please ensure there is only ONE rechargeable battery or ONE cell phone with battery, per bag.
Although a Dell laptop battery is rechargeable, it does have a limited life span. A typical battery usually lasts for about 500-700 charges before it will no longer be capable of recharging, and a replacement is necessary. The amount of charges can vary depending on the main use of your laptop. Some functions require more energy then others. Using functions such as a DVD player or using the brigh test screen setting can drain the laptop battery quicker, thus requiring it to be charged sooner. The more often you need to charge your battery, the sooner the laptop battery will be drained of its life span.
