above is an interesting Wall Street Journal article about how oil giant Valero plans to begin harnessing wind power for its oil refineries. The idea isn't so much about "going green" as it is about reducing costs. Located in an area of Texas ideally suited for generating wind power, the company expects its wind turbines to save the company a significant portion of its monthly $1.4 million grid-based electricity costs.

Note: Don't expect the savings to be passed on to consumers.

The punch line comes towards the end of the article: "For the refinery's workers, the new wind farm, with its sleek towers and swooshing sound, is a lesson in contrasts between the old and new energy. It will take only about three local people to operate, compared with the 450 to 1500 workers required to keep the refinery's noisy labyrinth of tanks and pipelines running in good shape."

OK - if it only takes three workers to maintain the wind turbines that power an entire oil refinery, and if Dear Leader Obama is staking a huge part of his "green" agenda on wind energy, where the heck are the millions of "green jobs" he promised going to come from? Certainly not wind!

That leaves solar, which is far more expensive, and as was reported some months ago, self-described environmentalists in California are resisting even this because desert-based solar panels might interfere with the lifestyle of some local turtle.

Perhaps our Dear Leader plans for all these jobs to come in the form of the hazmat teams needed to clean up the tens of thousands of mercury spills that will occur from folks dropping compact flourescent bulbs once incandescents are banned.

Or perhaps they will come in the form of additional the law enforcement needed in Washington State to prevent residents from crossing State lines to buy sulfate-rich dishwashing liquid.

More likely he will simply count the millions of cannabis-addled college students Moveon.org, Greenpeace, ACORN, SEIU, ACLU and other sundry leftist front groups will hire as footsoldiers for his re-election campaign. They will all be wearing hemp t-shirts, you see, which is about as green as Obama will ever get over the next (very very long) three and a half years.

The people have spoken ... again.

Well they did it......despite a majority of Americans that oppose the proposed socialist health care bill.....they passed it.

This will clearly set the ball rolling for a massive Republican resurgence in 2010....
