As I was responding to a post here in soulcast, suddenly the lights went out, my computer shut down, electric fan off, I thought it was momentary  as the computer starts buzzing again, then it went off completely. There was a moment of complete silence.
The whole neighborhood went mute.

I got upset because it's only now that I am inspired to review my emails and do some work. Been lazy the whole day. And I realize that I'm suddenly out of idea on what to do now that I don't have electricity.

And so, I found that technical agreement draft that's been waiting for my review since last week. It's been sitting in my table right next to the computer and "I haven't had time to read it and give my inputs".

But now that I got nothing else to do to escape it, I finally picked it up and read. It was a 10-page of jargon techie stuff. I keep saying I'm not a lawyer to do the review, But I'm the company's representative. I was hating the lawyer who made it complicated as I was reading it. Up to at least ten minutes of reading ,I was still resisting,, then I finally give up resisting and just read and put notes on the side. It was easier than I have thought of.

It took me one full hour of reading to finish and I got light by sitting at the side of the back door, with the remaining light from the day. It was 430 pm then. there's still sun although there was a few raindrops. It's been very hot the whole day, one of my excuse for laziness. hehe.

If it was my niece angela i know she'll instantly know what to do. She doesn't need electricity to live her life. I wonder when did I started to be soo dependent on electricity -that for about 5 minutes I thought I wasn't gonna survive another minute without it. Ridiculous.

Well, I'm just wondering, What would you do if you don't have electricity for a day?
Of course, if you have laptop, consider also that suppose the battery is drained also your cellphones. So what are you gonna do?

And yes, After an hour the electricity came back. wuhoo!!!
I think it conspired against me to kick my butt and get me to finish that work already.

Yet another argument to go green... If you're willing to chuck out the thousands of dollars to install it, there is a solar panel system that hooks up right next to your electrical box that would switch over to battery power automatically when the outside power drops below a particular level. The good news is that once you get it, you can apply for a federal 'grant' that will pay most of it back to you, plus the handy tax credit you receive come next April 15th.

Could have been worse. I had a client lose over 450GB of data a few summers ago because he left all his computer equipment running at his home after the big midwest blackout. When the lights [sorta] came back on again, it nearly fried everything. The smart thing to do is to have any equipment on surge protectors (at the very least) or an uninterruptable power supply (UPS). The even smarter thing to do is BACK UP YOUR DATA! If your PC fries, you may have some reload CD/DVD that came with your PC initially (although most OEMs make you buy it from them and wait five plus days now) and reload a new hard drive back to the day you received it, but it WILL NOT bring your beloved videos, pictures, music or other documents back. Both USB thumb drives and compact flash is getting so hideously cheap (not to mention CD-R and DVD-R media) that there is no earthly reason not to take a half hour out of your life to back up your stuff.

The most alarming is that Jacques Erasmus, Director of Prevx's security team, is also a well documented hacker. "Ex Hacker" is what he calls himself, but we are likely to find that his hacker's days aren't as far in the past as he'd like us to believe....
