The Indian government has banned the import of china mobile phone , which are gaining grounds in the Indian market thick and fast. The government ban on mobile phones came, dairy products and toys made in China. The latest development may result in a conflict between both countries on the WTO arena. The Chinese toys and dairy products were banned earlier. The ban was now extended by a few more months.
Since most dual sim mobile come with IMEI (International Mobile Equipment Identity) numbers, they are difficult to track in case of theft or any other incident. According to estimates, over eight lakh mobile phones without IMEI number, are being imported from China every month. They are much cheaper as compared to other branded phones.
The government has also banned the import of toys from China till January 2010. Only those toys will be banned, which do not meet the international safety standards and norms. The ban on import of milk and dairy products from China, has been extended till December 24, 2009.
A large number of countries had banned china wholesale phones milk products after they were found contaminated and resulted in the death of several people in that country last year.
China Mobile, the worlds largest mobile phone company, has bought 88.9 percent of stake in Paktel for $ 284 million in cash.
Paktel is the largest mobile carrier in Pakistan, and China Mobile represents first major moves outside China where it has over 300 million subscribers.
New Delhi: Import of watch mobile phone with unique identity code numbers has been banned, India's commerce ministry announced.
"Import of mobile handsets with International Mobile Equipment Identify (IMEI) number or with all-zero IMEI is prohibited with immediate effect," the Director General of Foreign Trade said in a notification.
IMEI - a unique 15-digit number - helps authorities trace the handset that has been used to make a call.
The Department of Telecom (DoT) had earlier directed telephone operators to disconnect services to subscribers who own handsets that do not have the IMEI code as china phone posed a security threat.
However, since then, the Cellular Operators Association of India has developed a software for embedding genuine identity code - issued by the global association of telecom operators - on handsets without the requisite IMEI numbers.Wealth, Inc., a telecommunications supplier in China has unveiled the world's first commercial solar-powered cellular phone.
