It's still not the two finger salute nor is Iran currently the only mirror visible from outerspace.  Which are the two options I most heartily approve of but Obama has finally stopped toeing the line and told Iran he harshly disaproves.  It's kinda convienent that we're pulling out of Iraq so we at least have SOME troops if we need them.

It's not perfert Mr. President but I did ask for this twenty four hours ago.  Are you paying attention to me?

he is mirroring his guest.....big deal.....actions speak louder than words.....the world is testing this President......these assholes are going to push us as far as they can and then some......Obama is going to have to get tough or we are screwed.
  • SeanRenaud said on Jun 27, 2009....
Due to Bush's actions Obama CAN'T get tough.  We don't have any troops left to send to Iran or Korea.  At best he get to put out a recall of everybody who got out in the last four years and probably insitute a draft (though something drastic will be employed prior to that) if they both jump off.  Bush was the one who over extended us.  When it comes to the current problems in the world either the UN will step up (ha ha) local powers will step up (I actually have some faith in China to take care of its backyard cus the last thing they need is a psycho with a nuke in their yard) or these problems will go unsolved. There really is nothing left for Obama to do.

we still have cruise missiles and drones.....you can do a lot of damage with those babies!
  • SeanRenaud said on Jun 27, 2009....
Drones do less damage than you think.  And ultimately those things are just for show.  You MUST put boots on the ground to accomplish real goals.  I mean unless your goal is to basically be Isreal.  Isreal doesn't have a choice when it kills civilians.  The civilians they are killing are willingly gathering around the missile depots and they are too close to ignore.  Iran and N. Korea fit neither description.  Neither can hurt us directly at this point.  I still wish Obama would use harsher language but he's inching in the direction I want and for th emoment that is good enough.  I with the world would step up.

thanks shelter crow, I had missed the Merkel press release and was impressed with Obama's great use of language

I have been in deep process with the women of the Middle East for the past decade and had a great opportunity to speak to many in the Middle East when I went there in 06. It is time for the women of the Middle East to band together and depose Sharia Law, depose the wicked Mullah system that has them covered in black from head to toe.

Obama and many world leaders understand the demographics of the Middle East and KNOW that the youth that make up to 70% of the population will not allow their societies to go backward because they have had a deep immersement into free speech on the world wide web. The internet will eventually replace nationalism and this Mellinial generation will absolutely insist upon human rights. This is the beginning of the end for the Mullahs

I loved how Obama put amhedinajob in his place, because he really is only a titular head, he has no access to the military and someone needed to show how puny this guy is and how irrelevent he is to that countries policies. He has been more like the Mullah's little pit-bull. Now the curtain has been pulled back and there is a whole bunch of nasty Mullahs playing the Wizard of Oz with an educated and organized youthful movement that will show Obama for the brilliant diplomat he is. I love having an articulate president who reads seans mail and uses seans words (sean representing middle road idea's). He is definitely a non-partisan (Obama). A little too moderate for me, but goodness I do not cringe when he is speaking :)

I think the President does have a good understanding of what is going on in Iran and I would assume that the reason behind the sit back and wait approach is to try and get the Iranians to work this problem out on their own....that's great.....but we have to be prepared for the down side, which would be that the revolution gets put down......and it is looking like that is the case.....also the underlying threat still remains.....as Obama pointed out, it really makes no difference who get's elected as long as the Mullahs are pulling the strings....The only good that can come out of the Mullahs rigging this election is if the revolution can succeed and then the taste of power that the Iranian people can get from that can carry over to developing a true democracy by means of casting out the mullahs.

The fact is that emtions run high in that part of the world particularly over interferience.  More an more it's starting to look like a brilliant tactical move that Obama has executed.  Not just the language but the basic actions.  At first I had my doubts that this was the right move but the Iranians seems to be moving along just fine without us which means we should let them.  We don't want the next power in that part of the world be tainted by the concept that it's a Western Puppet and the farther we stay from them the better particularly if we are not clearly invited and even then I would hesitate to take large scale actions.  The youth does not seem to be backing down so now it's really coming down to a test of the military/police and their loyalty.  How many family members are they willing to gun down before their stop?

Stand tall Iran.  Make me proud.

Remember the Ukranian Orange Revolution  -- those people knew the Kremlin had rigged the election after trying to poison their guy. Those people stood by the 10's of thousands in the frigid winter day and night for over one month! They are my hero's, I had wished we would have done that the first time Bush stole the election through the Supreme Court. Ukranians really exhibited the spirit of democracy and they won the day.

we should never forget them and their heroic efforts

Some things are not as they seem...

From OPEN ANTHROPOLOGY | America’s Iranian Twitter Revolution

"As part of my preparation for this article, I not only actively followed and participated in three of the Iranian election streams on Twitter, from 13 June (the day after Iran’s elections) to this morning, 17 June, I also collected a sample of 1,280 tweets, and skimmed all of the tweets about the Iranian election starting from 13 June. Among the statements praising Twitter, and the ways of using Twitter to “show support for the Iranian people”, I have collected these as representative examples...

"None of the Twitter users who made those statements are among even the allegedly Iranian Twitter users, and all except for one locate themselves in the U.S., the other in Canada.

"Yet, some would have us believe that there is a “Twitter revolution” going on in Iran, when there is no such thing. Not only that, what is being boasted about the power of Twitter is almost entirely false. What there is instead is a rush to the finish line, a predetermined conclusion to immediately thank and praise Twitter in the context of Iran’s street protests.

How representative are Iran’s Twitter revolutionaries? In actual fact, the only allegedly Iranian Twitter users who have been identified by other Twitter users as tweeting about the Iranian protests, are fewer than 45 (see one list here), most of whose locations cannot be confirmed and almost all of whom post only in English. Yet, one can get as many as 2,500 updates in a single minute, on one stream alone (#iranelection), and most of that repetitive and uninformative material is not being posted by anyone except for a huge mass of American Twitter users. In total, only a third of Iranians even have Internet access (we saw in the Canadian case that Internet access does not translate into Twitter use) and, very interestingly, the youth who are most associated with the protests and with Twitter use, consist of 18-to-24-year-olds who in fact comprise “the strongest voting bloc for Ahmadinejad of all age groups” (poll).

so the alleged 'twitter' revolution was a twitter promotional more than an actual phenomenon sheltercrow?

cell phones have internet access these days, so I wonder if those inet users are being counted in the above article. I find the article to be suspect and I rarely believe everything I hear until I see it and the truth is that there were many, many images coming from Tehran streets, this I saw first hand. Those images influened the Mullah's no doubt, which shows what a few people can do given inet access and a camera.

it is a new day, and has been ever since the internet made us one global community.

i hope the youth of Iran can see behind the wizards veil and choose free speech over a tyrranical and dishones theocracy!
