When all is said and done I got to give Obama credit for hitting the ground running and no matter what anybody says about him spending weeks and months in other countries he clearly got the machines rolling here before he did anything else.

I'm excited about his health care and just waiting for him to define it more clearly.  I strongly feel that we need a UHC at the very least that covers and better yet REQUIRES the following.  Annual medical and dental check ups for all Americans.  Simpy discovering more problems sooner will  drive down health care issues in the future because can nip them in the bud.  Our current system says hey if you have a heart attack we've got your back.  Stroke?  Yeah we gotcha!  Our emergency rooms will not turn away a patient,  And we've all heard the horror stories of people going in for nothing.  What we need to do is start checking early and often so we can stop these things from building up.  Anyway I'm digressing faster than usual.

Cap and Trade is a dangerous idea.  It is no doubt a good thing that needs to be handled but the way that Obama is going about it is not the right way to go about it.  How do I know you ask?  Simply because I haven't had the time to read through the hundreds of pages on it and seemingly nobody else has.  Everybody is lying.  The left is screaming it will create more jobs the right is screaming it will destroy jobs and drive energy costs through the roof.  Fact is nobody knows and that's not good.

Last year as annoying as it was to watch things get pushed through based on fear and knee jerk reactions it was justified.  The world was ending.  The stock market lost over 50% of it's worth in a single year, the housing market plummeted,  the auto industry was about to collapse as was the banking industry.  There is a saying that a good plan executed today is better than a perfect plan executed next week.  That's what happened as 2008 came to a close.  Now we are watching the Stocks rally, we are watching home prices rise, consumer confidense rise, unemployment is slowing (and it is a lagging indicator anyhow).  By all signs we are pulling out.  There will likely be a pit or two in front of us but it seems like we are getting out of this.  Now is the time to start working ASAP on staving off wild inflation, to set in place rules to prevent a similar collapse in the future.

It's really not the time to do something that many believe will hurt the economy.  Particularly not on partial info.  If this is a good idea a truly good idea show me the numbers.  Show me exactly what this hopes to accomplish and what a realistic worst case scenario is.  Make me believe because right now. . .I don't.

Faith based science should not be a reason to assess new taxes.....prove 1st that global warming is caused by man and then that it will have catastrophic consequences, and then we can talk about taxing the shit out of Americans while the Chinese laugh their fucking asses off!
  • SeanRenaud said on Jun 25, 2009....

China signed the law ten years ago if I'm not mistaken.  It's their lack of child labor laws that let them skirt the issue.  Again if Republicans would offer a true alternative they would rock the shit out of Dems on this issue.

Faith based science shoudl never be used for anything.  This is slightly outside the realm of faith based but still I agree.

You have to be kidding. Our trainee president demonstrates his lack of knowledge and experience more and more every day. It is getting interesting to watch just how long people point and say "look how well dressed he is", when, in fact, he is as naked as a jaybird.

  • ALIENated said on Jun 26, 2009....

Oh, he has hit the ground running all right. And we are all going to pay for it for a long time. I like the phrase "if it is not broke, it does not need fixing". Our system is only broke because of Democrat tinkering in the past, all the way back to Carter and Clinton. Bush just happened to be president when the chickens came home to roost, as Borax's friend Reverend Wright would say. Democrats pretend that they are going to steal from the rich and give it to the poor (the people who keep voting them in). It sounds good in theory, but it never quite works as planned. That is why Republicans prefer that the government keep its distance from just about everything except maybe national defense and building bridges. I am just praying enough non-liberal Democrats (is there such a thing anymore) will see the light and help the minority stop some of this socialistic crapola. People need to forget their allegiance to the "first black president" and go back to thinking clearly and putting our country first, not Borax's legacy.

  • SeanRenaud said on Jun 27, 2009....
It all depends on where the country is in two and a half years.  If unemployment is down, the world loves us, troops are out of iraq (which would have happened eventually probably nowish anyway) then he'll be back.  I keep telling you in the US we don't vote for presidents for four years.  We vote for eight years with a four year vote of confidence.  All he has to do is not provably fuck up by then.  The second four when he's got nothing left to live for should be interesting.
  • ALIENated said on Jun 29, 2009....

Interesting? Yes, it will be interesting all right ... if you call a holocaust interesting. By then we will be so weak, Korea will most likely kick our ass. Osama Bin Ladin (or whoever engineered the 9/11 attack) was a genius. This country has been steadily going down the tubes since that attack. It brought people like George Dubya Bush to action and caused Democrats to lose what little common sense they had left. It was a moment in time that sent both parties to their extreme corners, and helped usher in the likes of BHO and his dufus cohorts. Interesting? Yes, like the Titanic sinking was interesting, like Nazis were interesting.

  • SeanRenaud said on Jun 29, 2009....

Okay grow up and stop over reacing.  Korea couldn't take us in a fight if we let the cast of Seasame Street run our military.

  • ALIENated said on Jul 01, 2009....

We will see. If you are as smart as I think you are, we should see you turning on Mr. Osamabama pretty soon. Along with just about everyone else. I hope black folk can see beyond their skin color and see what a mistake they have made.

  • SeanRenaud said on Jul 02, 2009....
Unless Obama literally hands over the launch codes he's still better than the alternative would have been.
  • ALIENated said on Jul 02, 2009....

You know I cannot argue with that. I am actually glad OhBummer was elected for his one term while Republicans get their shit together and find a real candidate. And they had best forget about Palin. Republicans simply put on a happy face about her to hopefully get McCain elected. Any monkey could have predicted that it would not work. This country is barely ready for a man of color to be president, do not even mention a woman being president or vice president. Even Democrats did not want a woman. However, be aware that I would have preferred Hillary over Borax because she is a Democrat, not a Socialist. Borax needs to lose in 2012 so the Democrats will get their shit together and pull back toward the center. All this extreme left and right wing crap is sending this country into shock (or the crapper).

  • SeanRenaud said on Jul 02, 2009....
Thing is Republicans have a little over a year to get their shit together.  I don't think are gonna pull it.  You're basically banking on Obama making a huge unforgivable, unoverlookable blunder.  And that almost has to be coupled with nothing that isn't his fault.
  • ALIENated said on Jul 03, 2009....

We must be patient. No need to appoint a Republican candidate for 2012 now. We must retake the House in 2010. I am not sure there is much that can be done about the Senate (only Republican-held seats are up for grabs as I understand it). However, conservative Democrats can come to their senses and help stop the madness.

  • SeanRenaud said on Jul 03, 2009....
I haven't looked at it.  But while there is no need to appoint a 2012 candidate yet by this time next year you should have a damn good idea who the forerunners are.
  • ALIENated said on Jul 03, 2009....

I am hoping by 2012 the Republicans can run a monkey and win. Maybe there will be enough duck activity by then for everyone to come to their senses (if he looks, walks, quacks like a duck ... or socialist).

  • SeanRenaud said on Jul 04, 2009....
It won't matter how socialist Obama is if the economy improves.  Both place to high a value and expect others to place to high a value on capitalism.
  • ALIENated said on Jul 08, 2009....

Capitalism and Judeo/Christianity are what have made this country great and successful. All you have to do is look at socialistic, atheistic nations (or Islamic nations) to see the alternatives. The poor in this country are better off than the middle class in most nations.

  • SeanRenaud said on Jul 08, 2009....

There are no aetheist nations to compare them to.  Yadda yadda the poor in this country.  The poor in Socialist Europe are better than the middle class in most nation.  Most nations don't actually have a middle class, they have HAVES and HAVE NOTS but that's no where near the point.

I don't debate that Capitalism made this country great.  I can't think of ANY thing great in this country that is directly laid at Judeo/Christian beliefs though.

  • ALIENated said on Jul 08, 2009....

That is only because you are blinded to it. Someday your eyes may be opened to it. Of course, if you are looking to people like Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton for spiritual examples, I can see your problem.

  • SeanRenaud said on Jul 08, 2009....
Name an example.  Just one that isn't universal.  I mean you can't claim that the concepts of don't kill and don't steal are unique to Judeo-Christians beliefs.  These things are 100% universal.  So yeah I would like to see something you can point to sand say is UNIQUE to JC beliefs that shaped this country.
  • ALIENated said on Jul 09, 2009....

You and your master know there is nothing I can say that you would not pervert and dispute. Besides, the Judeo/Christian influence is a general direction, not a single point. Compare our country to any of the Muslim-run countries. The differences should be obvious.

  • SeanRenaud said on Jul 09, 2009....

In short you have no point to make as per usual.  Why not compare us to the Asian Cultures.  I mean lets be perfectly honest here Muslim countries are mirror images of Christian countries when there aren't enough aethiests to keep the genie in the bottle. You can deny it all you want but look at history and look what starts happening whenever the Church has any real power.  It's a religion thing.

The Founding Fathers wisely prevented that from happening here by not allowing the establishment of a single religion as official here.

  • ALIENated said on Jul 09, 2009....

As usual, when Christianity is mentioned, you think about a church, maybe the Catholics. I am talking about a way of life, a philosophy, not a church. Churches are run by men (and women) who are corrupted by power just like any other human. When I talk about Christianity as an influence, I am talking about a code of ethics, a personal way of dealing with everyday life, not which church someone attends. I would agree that some churches (denominations) are no better than Muslims or anyone else. Anything can be perverted, which is why I usually say true Christians, not Christians that pervert Christianity to suit their purposes. For example, I do not think any true Christian would approve of abortion, and especially not a last minute abortion, the way Borax does.

  • SeanRenaud said on Jul 10, 2009....
Catholics were the only kind of Christian for fifteen hundred years.  It wasn't until a certain King wanted to be able to legally divorce his wife that a "new" kind of divorce friendly Christian was born.  You define slip into this defense of True Christian because such a thing has no real definition.
  • ALIENated said on Jul 10, 2009....

When I was a kid, most of the black people I saw were poor, stinky (from working hard and bad plumbing in their shack homes), and dumb (uneducated). Is that what most black people are like today? Are we now judging the present by the past? Things change. People get a better understanding of things. In days gone by, the Bible was written in Latin and the common man only knew what they heard at mass from the priest. Each person can now read the Bible and come to their own conclusions, which is the main reason we have so many denominations these days. Some "Christians" believe in handling snakes. I would not call them real Christians. They are majoring on a minor point in the Bible. And, like most non-Christians, you are expecting Christians to be perfect, but they are human beings. There has only been one perfect human being on this earth in the history of human beings.

  • SeanRenaud said on Jul 10, 2009....
No I'm expecting them to be consistent or at least logical.  You mock snake handlers.  They share all of your beliefs.  They don't actually add anything other than they prove their faith because the Bible Claims that serpents will not hurt true believers.  If you believe in the Bible you should believe in the Snake Handlers.  Your clearly smart enough to know that your book of Fairy Tales won't protect you from rattlesnakes but that's not because your book doesn't cover it.  It's not even a freak translation of what's written in your book.
  • ALIENated said on Jul 10, 2009....

I am not mocking anyone, but snake handlers do not share my beliefs. I put that in the same category as walking off a ten-story building and expecting God to cushion my contact with the sidewalk. God does not suspend the laws of physics on a regular basis (the movie Bruce Almighty shows what can happen if He did). Besides, you would say I was crazy if I did share their belief and you know it. (Remember what I said about twisting anthing I say.) Plus, I do not trust your ability to recognize fairy tales if you claim to be a Democrat.

  • SeanRenaud said on Jul 10, 2009....

You do share their beliefs though.  You simply don't haif their faith.  No where in the Bible does it say if thou shall step off a six story building I shall catch you.  Or even something generic like if you do stupid things I got your back it does however mention at least twice that serpents handling should be safe for a true believer.  The difference between you and them isn't that they don't share your beliefs.  The thing is they believe and you're intelligent.  You try to hide it because you've been raised in a society that believes that ignorance is purity.  So you cling to it but you and the majority of people are far to inteligent to really believe.

Mark 16:17-18: "And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues; They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover"

Luke 10:19: "Behold, I give unto you the power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over the power of the enemy: and nothing by any means shall hurt you"

  • ALIENated said on Jul 10, 2009....

    Mark 16
14 Afterward he appeared unto the eleven ...

15 And he said unto them, (the disciples) ...

Jesus said this to the disciples. It was a prediction of the things that were going to happen to them (I think Paul was bitten by a snake but survived). Jesus was not directing Christians to run around doing stupid things, but if things happened to them, their faith would help them through it. Notice it says "they shall take up serpents", but it does not say what will happen to them. Treading on serpents is not the same as handling them. Plus, not all serpents are poisonous. The Pentecostals take the "shall speak with new tongues" statement pretty literally, too. If you have ever been to a full gospel or pentecostal church, you will hear people blithering nonsensically (speaking in tongues). I figure Jesus was telling his disciples that they would have to learn new languages in order to spread the gospel in the various countries they would go to.

This is all just my interpretation, but I figure God is not going to command us to do stupid things. However, if your faith is strong enough, try handling a few rattle snakes and see if God suspends the laws of nature and chemistry to save you.

I have faith that Jesus is the son of God. I put my faith in Him as a savior. That alone is all I have to believe to spend eternity in heaven with Him. At that time all these questions will be answered. I doubt that we will be able to see those who are in hell or know who is there, but I figure those in hell will be able to look on heaven ... to see what they are missing and to learn where their thinking was wrong.

  • SeanRenaud said on Jul 11, 2009....
To be fair treading on a a serpent is dumber than handling one.  If you carry a snake it might not bite you but if you step on one it surely will.  Also note it doesn't actually say that you'd be immune to poison.  It says that the serpents won't hurt you.  If I'm not mistaken one man in the Bible famously spent an evening in a den of lions and he wasn't immune to lion bites, they simply were made docile.  The Bible claims that there mouths were shut but common sense denotes it had to be more than that cus lions. ..they've got pretty big claws and are pretty strong.  IF one wanted you dead (or even felt playful) sewing it's mouth shut wouldn't make you survive.

Edit:  Listening to idiots pretend to speak in tongues pisses me off.  It's amongst the silly things that made sure I never ever looked back at religion seriously ever again.  Though to be fair when Jesus says they shall speak in tongues it doesn't actually say they would understand the tongues but seriusly what is the point in being capable of pronouncing words in a language that you do not understand?  Maybe it's just my sanity but I assumed that the ability to speak in tongues would be granted basically so one could preach to foreigners, not so you could create the first Rap Song.
  • ALIENated said on Jul 11, 2009....

Speaking in tongues is supposedly a sign (some think THE sign) of being filled with the Holy Spirit. I call all this stuff "majoring on the minors". I chalk it all off to things I really do not (and probably never will while on this earth) understand, and I do not need to. Being saved simply requires that you accept Jesus as your lord and savior. Whatever else you do is neither here nor there. Many people think you have to work your way to heaven, including most atheists. They think doing good deeds are what gets you into heaven. That is not what Jesus said. Jesus is the final sacrifice that covers all our sins ... period. You are saved FOR good works, not BY good works.

There is a joke about some guy going to heaven and walking down a long hall with Saint Peter. They pass by big rooms filled with people. "The Catholics are in there," says Saint Peter. They walk on. "The Baptists are in there. The Methodists are in there." The next door they pass is shut. "Who is in there?" the new guys asks. "Not so loud. That is the Church of Christ. They think they are the only ones here."

Also, the Old Testament documents the time of the Father. The New Testament documents the time of Jesus and then the time of the disciples who were filled with the Holy Spirit. During the time of the Father, they had The Law in the temple, then they actually had Jesus to tell them what the Father really wants us to do, and now we are the temple when we are filled with the Holy Spirit. There is even controversy over what that means -- to be filled with the Holy Spirit. People like Billy Graham think that you are automatically filled with the Holy Spirit when you accept Jesus. Others (mostly those people who believe in speaking in tongues) think those are two separate events, and that speaking in tongues is evidence of being filled with the Holy Spirit. That is one of those things I do not worry about.

  • SeanRenaud said on Jul 12, 2009....

While I think I'm right,  That it's purpose is to bring people together.  There are few things in the world that are as divisive as language.  But to be able to speak and fluently at that any and every language or better yet to somehow be understandable by everybody hearing your voice would do wonders to bring people together.

But ultimately you're right that other than down time it's not worth debating as there is far to little in the Bible to go on for it.
