i haven't taken a proper vacation (packed luggage and gone for more than a day or two) in a very long time now and i'm thinking about options for when i get to change that some time in the future. but i'm kinda lazy, so...

assume for the sake of argument that you have 1 week and up to date passports (if necessary). where would you go for one week?

i play this game sometimes....fantasy trip-

one of my favorite's is Greece...floating around the aegean sea (have you ever seen the color of it?)
in a chartered sailboat, drinking strong wine, dressed in a teeny tiny suit, oiled up and worshipping the sun over that blue blue blue water....

Later returning to my hotel overlooking the sea, surrounded by so much fabulous history, art, music, lit, ...take your pick!...walking thru the streets of crete or athens...holding hands and finding some small intimate restaurant...
    ok you get my drift...

Perhaps this doesn't seem very far reaching, but my husband and I have always talked of visiting London.

I think I'd visit Scotland and/or Ireland, and meander through some old villages and just see where life led me. :)

I would come back to Paris and then Salisburg and Praga.

But i always dreamed to visit Marocco too.....the desert, Jesuralem, the Dead Sea, South Yemen..........

SecretLife, i have been in Mikonos and Santorini....the blue is really like that....amazing!

The location would entirely depend on whether I was travelling accompanied or not and by whom.

Right now it would be... < this space intentionally left blank >

If you're after a sensible answer then I'd love to visit the USA and do the touristy bit outside of NYC or go back to Venice or visit Egypt or any of the other places I've not been before.
  • quidnunc said on Sep 12, 2006....
...never been to the Egypt and Turkey. I'd bring my family there...

My son spent almost 2 weeks in Itlay this summer and about 150 of the pictures he took show blue waters just like Secret's link. I'm so jealous. Capri would be my choice.

My passport is up to date and I have 8 vacation days left, but my wife hates to fly. I'll go anywhere, but I'd rather not go alone. Anyone want to join me?
  • carmachu said on Sep 12, 2006....
The beach! You know where....you've seen the pictures.

    Paris and Beijing for me.
  • missb said on Sep 12, 2006....
If I only have 1 week, I'd fly to Hongkong or anywhere that's not too far from my country.

Further places would be Edinburgh to visit my bf and / New York!! I've always wanted to go there :/

Come to think of it, I really need a vacation. Maybe just to Singapore, strolling down Orchard road, shopping like mad, clubbing with friends *sighs* Oh, and maybe to Taipei too! Would be nice to go back and visit old friends, reliving the past. Ah well.... I could go on *daydreams*

for me, i think the answer is a castle tour of france. yeah, i know, it's germany that's renowned for their castles and i understand that, but c'mon: castles, wine and loads of great food--that's a tough combination to beat. as it wouldn't be paris, i'm hopeful that my godawful french would at least not offend those i encounter.

CapteTown and winelands (wine, wine, wine, food, food, food, beaches with nekid chicksk (-;, wine food, sea surf beaches and mountains.

Where I'd like to go but havent been.

plenty of places to go on vacation here in this country.... would love to go visit the west...Grand Canyon. Or the Copper Canyon in Mexico... Spain or Italy would be fantastic but I'd like an extended vacation in each one.
Visit relatives in South America...again...although it's been some years since I have.
On the other side of the Globe...India, China, Australia, French Somoa.... if I ever win the lotto...I'm going on a world tour!
  • Bordy said on Sep 12, 2006....
Straight back to Australia for a proper tour... when we stopped there on deployment I spent my days playing rugby and my nights recouperating. I mean, I played rugby before there so I didn't hurt nearly as bad as my shipmates who had those monsters as their first experience... but still. Pain.

And lots of beer does indeed dull that pain, btw.

But Australia is awesome... feels like Florida, so I was at home. And I ate kangaroo!

My wife was looking at Portugal this weekend. The "itch" has moved to vacationing.

The rates are really good, at least where I'm from, but I told her "the kitchen or a vacation?".

She hates it when I bring reality into the discussion.

I'm thinking that we'll spend it at my parent's cottage, in mid-october. It'll be a bit past the colorful season, I hope it comes late this year. I really enjoy walking through a forest that is yellow/orange/red.

I have much more mundane ambitions regarding vacation travel. I'd be happy to spend a week on the Monterey Peninsula, preferably after having improved my golf game substantially.
  • Ralli said on Sep 12, 2006....
No doubt it would be Italy. I was there 10 years ago and am dying to go back.

The Roman Forum is amazing. And the food is incredible! If you ever go the Ice Cream is the best in the world!
  • missb said on Sep 12, 2006....
Just curious, does anyone want to visit Indonesia? :)
  • gingersoul said on Sep 12, 2006....

I've always wanted to go to Fiji (Turtle Island).

Switzerland is my favorite country in the world.

I must go back to Paris and revisit my old haunts (this time with a bigger budget than I had when I lived there).

I hear Alaska is beautiful; and I'd like to go to Hawaii and Montana so I can say I've visited all the states.

I've always been drawn to the Cayman Islands, but they are heavily anti-gay. I guess I'd go there on a fantasy vacation because in my fantasy they'd be gay-friendly.

Japan. I wanna go to Tokyo. I want to see the Japanese and how they do things, taste the food, drink in the sights - not just in the city but to roam the country side, seeing little villages and ancient castles too.

My dream vacation would be boring compared to these other posts but I have wanted to go to the Grand Canyon, Disneyland, and the Oregon Caves/ Sealion caves for starters.....

Scaly ...me! me! raises her arm...I love to travel and flying is no problem...preferred, in fact.

To answer the questiion...For a week...at the moment, I'd probably say Rome. It's been ages since I've been there.

If you want my all time favourite though, I'd say Turkey...but 1 week isn't long enough unless I just hit Istanbul.

What's in Portland and Vancouver that you would want to visit? If you are going out that way, I would really recommend the Oregon Coast.

    I missed this topic!

This is hard, but I think I'd either go someplace completely different, like camping in the Sahara, or Copenhagen, or I'd visit Spain, see some of my old haunts and maybe enroll in a week long flamenco workshop at one of the schools in Seville, or go to Italy. I've never been to Italy and I've always wanted to.

My passport is current and sitting on my bedside table. Anybody want to donate money so I can use it?

An obsession with Hans Christian Anderson when I was younger, heritage, and the fact that I couldn't go last time I wanted to. The travel agency couldn't find any affordable openings on any airline, so I had to go to Vienna instead. Not that Vienna is a bad place. It ranks #2 in my favorite places to be in Europe.
  • Bordy said on Oct 02, 2006....
I want to go dip copenhagen in copenhagen. Cheesy humor ftw!
