  How much thought goes into giving one of these?  How much do they mean it?
  Or is the whole point that they didn't even think about it.  Do they see this extravagant compliment as obvious?
  
  It would be best if it weren't too closely analyzed.  Sentimentality is not my strongest suit.  I'd always seen it as a strength, but is its own kind of poverty.

  I got a phone call from my step daughter (shamed to say I wasn't too impressed, but that's the truth) and a dinner out where both chipped in......  the x took me out to eat and had a coupon which her daughter sent her from her place of work (Macaroni Grill)..... I guess that's as good as it's going to get so I'm not complaining
