Cleaning jewelry can be a real chore if you do not use some type of handy “trick”. The tricks described in this article will help make cleaning your jewelry quicker & not as hard. I will not recommend using any of the following on Pearl jewelry as the soft shiny layers of the pearl can be easily damaged.
The cleaning of rings with difficult to reach settings of diamonds & the like can easily have the build-up of dirt & grime removed by placing the items in a glass & pouring club soda in to the glass. According to Karl, at SilverGoldJewels, letting the bubbles do their work overnight will loosen the build-up from between the setting & release the shine that you remember when the ring was new.
Another way to neat hard to reach spots on your necklaces & other jewelry is to plop a couple of alka-seltzer in to a glass of clear water & placing your jewelry in to the glass as the bubbles again do the work for you.
Standing in the kitchen with your hand on the refrigerator you may notice a ring or two that has lost a quantity of its luster. If you do then you are in the right place for this one-- ketchup, when liberally globbed onto your gold ring will neat your jewelry well. Place you ring or other items (gold or silver) onto something that will not be stained with the ketchup, such as some elderly newspaper or on some paper towels. Grab the ketchup & give a little squirt. Wait about two to two minutes & rinse well with lots of water. If there's some fine details of such on the item then you may try using an elderly toothbrush to scrub these hard to reach places. Be sure that all the ketchup gets removed or the vinegar & the acid found in the ketchup could continue to etch a spot in to your beautiful jewelry or silverware.
