I was feeling pretty tired and my energy was down

But I had some spare time so I went out to town

Though I had no money, and was actually quite poor

I found myself wandering into a CD store

I just wanted to see what was new in the music scene today

I knew I couldn’t buy anything and had to save my pay

Still I thought there might be something really cool that I had missed

But what I actually heard and saw made me feel a little depressed

There was Green Day’s new album, all polished and mature

Something that my wife would like I could be pretty sure

And Marilyn Manson’s new offering sounded pretty much the same

Once exciting shock rocker now has become mundane

There were catchy J-pop rock tunes and a hip hopper sounding tough

But all his hip hop swearing just sounded like juvenile fluff

Many new bands and old bands churning out CDs galore

But everything I heard in there struck me as a bore

Maybe it was my mood or lack of spending dough

But I felt that there was nothing out there to satisfy my soul

Then I came to work today and my friend showed me something new

I’d never heard about this band but I’d like to share them with you.

Ladies and gentlemen of SoulCast, from a person who was tired, feeling rushed, busy, and short of time, from someone who was bored with modern music I present to you something a little old but something that totally cheered me up and made me excited about a band I hadn’t known before. Presenting Toy Dolls and Nellie the Elephant!

(at least watch to the chorus!)

Hottie.......this sounds like a song i could have sang to my daughter when she was 5....

Cute song though.....very similar to the Clash first period mixed with ska.
I prefer their "Idle gossip' song though..

When i want to listen to something new i just type on YT "new music" ....or i go from to a song to another one using words connections..

You will be surprise about the jewels you can found out there..

There is an ocean of music never heard before that just waits for us to be discovered...:-)
  • uniquely-ironic said on Jun 18, 2009....
very interesting and doubtful that anyone could listen to it and not be cheered up.
  • superbozo said on Jun 19, 2009....
ARRRRRGGGGHHHHHH.......I remember when that song was released. Only in Britian. There seems to be a whole heap of songs that British holiday makers hear over and over again when in Spain they then return mome and turn them into chart toppers. The Birdy song is another.

Heres another that was sent to kill my childhood. My mum thought it was great :(

And don't forget this one **cocks gun and points at head**

Ok, haven't had a chance to listen to the additions, but I listened to the first one about the elephant this morning at like, 3:30 a.m., and I heard it in my head almost all day!  "OOOOOHHHHHH!"

And it was one of the only things that cheered up my day!!!!!!!!!!

ginger, all through my high school years and after I always strayed from what everyone else was listening to and made my own discoveries. I have never given up doing that but I find most "gems" in older music. Before MiniHot was born I followed the careers of all the past and present members of Deep Purple and found so many albums that I never knew about but really enjoyed, even some of the newer ones, like John Lord and the Hootchie Kootchie Men Danger: White Men Dancing and Don Airey's Light In the Sky.

I am sure there are many great new songs but I find most modern music to sound very similar to what I heard 10 years ago. From 1999 to 2009 I don't hear much progress or evolution in music. YouTube would be great if I had the time but I never have enough time to do everything I want to do on the computer. If my friend hadn't shown me this video I never woudl have known about Toy Dolls.

UI, I am usually cheered up by adult men and women singing silly songs in all earnesty. Did you ever hear Cream's Mother's Lament?

superbozo, I am at the soundless computer now so I'll have to listen to your contributions later today but I am surely looking forward to it.

wombat, You gotta love that OOOOOOHHHH part, eh? Me and my friend are practicing the arm movements that go with the chorus. I am glad the song cheered you up too!

Cracked me up, Sam.... that's all I can say....
  • hotaka said on Jun 20, 2009....
superbozo, now I have listened and I almost regret that I did. I don't know which was worse but I do know the worst was that bloody bird dance. I thought that was something played when bingo night at the seniors home got stale.
  • queenparanoia said on Jun 20, 2009....
    very funny song!!!
  • Alyss said on Jun 20, 2009....
Oh dear Lord... I'd forgotten all of those, or so I thought...

But apparently they are so deeply entrenched that reading the song title was enough and now I have the bloody lyrics being sung in my head!!

More for you all to 'enjoy'...

  • superbozo said on Jun 20, 2009....
LMAO......nothing like getting drunk at the local pub watching all the other drunks trying to remember the movements to the birdy song. I could've put so many other shockers up there too. :)

    Alyss...NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO.....LOL. Don't do it to me....**Pulls trigger**

HOTAKA: I`m glad u like the Toy Dolls. Since I re-discovert the Toy Dolls after almost 17years of not listening to them, Nellie the Elephant is on reapeat on my iPod. I remember the first time I listen to their "Dig that Groove" CD way back in elementary school. I almost pee`d myself. OOOOOOHHHHHHHH!!! My son`s really likes the elephant song too. Their dancing and jumping in the living room when I play the song!!! How about HOTAKA Junior? PS Why the spacing disappears after pushing submit???
  • superbozo said on Jun 22, 2009....
Wow Alyss and Ginger you too did have fun. Jake The Peg LMAO. I used to love watching rolf do that as a little kid. I almost posted "Tie me Kangaroo Down" but resisted the urge :)

  • gingersoul said on Jun 24, 2009....
Jutaro......sorry, your link doesn't work but i do remember Hottie posting that Joe Cocker video........lol....

  • hotaka said on Jun 24, 2009....
Hey, I have the CD. I bought it when I was in Oz because I heard a funny song about a little dog that pees all over the house.

Here's another band that never does anything seriously except that they seriously make silly songs. Look up the Arrogant Worms on YouTube.

  • hotaka said on Jun 24, 2009....
Oh, that's right. I did post the Joe Cocker song before. Ha-ha! That's hilarious!
  • jutaro said on Jun 25, 2009....
@gingersoul: It works for me and hotaka.

She's so cute!...
Spinning some wax tracks for ya......
do alot of things......
Love them or hate them?

I am old enough to remember the Saturday Night Fever craze. The soundtrack filled with Bee Gees songs will always be one of my favorites. I got caught up in the disco fever of the day....
