Wandering into HMV in Manchester the other day I was surprised to find that half of the floor space had been taken up with a new gaming centre. HMV has started a partnership with Dell and Intel to give a high speed gaming experience using high spec entertainment computers with quad core processors. The gaming experience will be better than most people have in their homes but it comes at a price.
The new HMV area charges £5 to play for 3 hours. I would prefer if they let you play for around 15 mins for a small charge just to let you same the games.
Online gaming is something I have never tried, my Internet connection is not good enough to be worth it. If I wire my Xbox up then half the time it says the connection is to slow to connect to Xbox live.
Hopefully with there being lots of news about subsidising broadband, fast connections will become cheaper and into my price range.
I used to go to a place called Lan arena with my friends for all night game sessions. The speed of the games was amazing, there was no lag between computers. We played Counter strike with around 15 people in total so it was a good size of game. There was also a brilliant game that I have been looking for but I can not remember the game. It was a death match game where there were planes, bikes, blimps, cars, and tanks to drive. You could use anti aircraft guns on aircraft carriers as well as collect a variety of weapons. If I ever find it again I am definitely going to get it. Unlike HMV Lan arena came with Internet access but I never understood this because the connection was not a really fast connection like an SDSL internet that lets you upload and download at the same high speed connection. The games became much to laggy compared to network play.
