I just heard Dr. Joyce Brothers on the radio doing a one-minute spot to convince us to put the youngest babies on a diet so they aren't chubby.
Maybe some of them are supposed to be chubby.
Here are 7 body types that are given names of bodies in our solar system. The theory is that we are born as one of these types, usually with 1 or 2 secondary types behind the main type.
Sun. A fragile body, relatively weak constitution, not built for heavy lifting.
Moon. A round chubby body, typically combined with high intelligence.
Mercury. A skinny body with a sense of nervousness or nervous energy.
Venus. A voluptuous and feminine body that may or may not be a bit chubby.
Mars. A muscular body.
Jupiter. A big body, really quite big.
Saturn. A tall thin body with strong thin muscles, typically with a stubborn personality.
There's more to this than physical characteristics. There are non physical traits that go with each type.
The song Along Came Jones by the Coasters describes Tall thin Jones, slow walking Jones, slow talking Jones, along came long lean lanky Jones, the hero who saves sweet Sue. He's a Saturn body type like the Marlboro Man, Clint Eastwood and Uncle Sam. Our models are Saturn types, and in fact that is the whole purpose of the modeling industry, to display Saturn types, tall and thin.
The Sun type seems like a bad one to have, physically, and must be accompanied by worthwhile non physical traits.
Schwarzenegger is probably a Mars type, like the guy you see at the gym with muscles on his muscles, all rounded and powerful looking, with a big chest that looks like his ass.
Marilyn Monroe was probably a Venus type, with a little soft flesh on that belly of hers, and curves where they oughta be. She wasn't a Saturnine model.
Mercury and Saturn are the two skinny types you'd suspect of having a high metabolism, Mercury with its nervous energy, Saturn being the slower, rock solid type.
Morbidly obese people are Jupiter with maybe the Moon as a secondary. They can be larger than life, like Israel Kamakawiwo'ole who sang that beautiful version of Wonderful World/Over The Rainbow.
One clear lesson in this system is that we weren't all meant to have the physique that our culture prizes the most, even if it is the healthiest. We weren't all born as Saturn types and we aren't all supposed to be.
