I am sure most of us tennis fans were excited to have had the opportunity to watch Richard Gasquet vs. Hewitt match yesterday. Yesterday’s game made me believe that Gasquet is indeed the next Federer. If you all remember, Federer was also troubled by Hewitt in his early days, but he never ever pushed Hewitt to the limit with one leg. In other words, Gasquet is ahead of schedule if you compare him with the Feds. All he needs to do is to win the Australian or the U.S. Open next year to truly become great. The first slam is going to be difficult for anybody, but Gasquet definitely has the game. He has beaten Blake, Nadal, and Federer before, and he seems to have minimal problems with young guns such as Murray and Berdych. I had questions about his heart, but he showed me last night that he really wanted to beat Hewitt, and he probably should have after playing two loose, at least by his standards, sets against Hewitt. The future of tennis is Sir Richard, and in my opinion he has the game to win at least 8 grand slams if not more. The question is when will he step up and reach a grand slam final. My guess is sometime next year.
