There are two things on the first day of school every
year that make me cry:
1. Seeing those little ones starting school for the
first time - with that unexplainable and incredible
fear in their teary eyes as they reach for their
leaving parent. The separation anxiety is so intense
I found myself not being able to leave. I want to
pick up that sweet little girl with the long blonde
locks, with her new shiney shoes on and her pretty
little dress and give her the biggest hug possible
and assure her she will be OK.
2. Then I see the parents looking on as their
children enter their new classroom and they seem
to be safe with their environment. They may be
alone abit or immediately join in with some kids
but the parent is outside sobbing as this truly is
the milestone of your baby growing up. These
should be joyous tears but they are often very
sad and jarring. For once, you are not the only
one in their little lives. It is now the parent
suffering from the anxiety.
How many more days until next summer?
