I am a peaceful non-conformist, but a non-conformist nonetheless. Most people would say I am a happy non-conformist. That's not to say that I never conform. I just chose what makes logical sense to me. I believe in individual rights. I believe individuals are here to BE individuals. A close friend of mine bought me a sticker once that read, "You laugh because I'm different, I laugh because you are all the same".
That's not to say there are not MANY people out there that stick to their guns, (no pun intended). I have morals and principles. Most of us do. The difference is how you came to hold them close. I use experience from my own life. I rarely follow anything blindly, and if I do, it usually bites me in the ass at some point. I like informed decisions. They make more sense to me than someone telling me, "That's just the way it is". I'll give an example from today.
I saw this:

Everyone dreads drivers license photo time. Now, it's worse, in 4 states. You can't smile. You can't even TRY to redeem the horrid picture that you will carry around for years...with a smile. While looking, I found this:

This is yet another security measure that infringes on rights of people who ARE DOING NOTHING WRONG. No glasses, scarves or hats are allowed. I have a restriction on my license that says I need glasses or contacts to drive. If they are so worried about face recognition, why can't I wear my glasses in my picture, (I'm paying for)? I think there are too many laws the way it is. It seems to me that they are infringing on the wrong people.
Where are the boundaries drawn? More states will follow. It's for your safety. Blah. Fake ID's have been around for years. It's a common thing. Now some of us cannot smile. Are we going to have already traumatized chemo patients being forced to shed their wigs eventually? The possibilities are phenomenal. I see criminals protected more while the law abiding citizen gets their rights stripped away. ONE BY ONE. For the sake of our safety. I'll keep my freedom thank you.
These are dangerous precedents. Stand up for yourself.
It doesn't make me happy at all, for any of us. I have sat back quietly and said nothing, practicing my right to live as I shall...quietly. Then I found Soul Cast. Maybe if I speak aloud about topics that bother me AND should bother some of you also, I can make some bit of difference. It's not pretty. It's certainly not popular, but I believe someone should speak out. You don't have to agree. That's the beauty of it. You just don't.
I like to smile, especially if you tell me I can't. Smiling doesn't only make you happy, it makes the people around you happy also. To me, that's important.
