    3.  Do you see yourself ever changing jobs? (or for those who are retired, do you see yourself ever going back to work?)  I really can't, unless I were to start my own business.

    4.  Growing up was there a summer job that you'd love to do as an adult? I'd love to be a summer camp activities instructor again.  Very rewarding and only limited exposure to the kids.

i worked at the local carnival around christmas time... it was fun.
  • uniquely-ironic said on May 21, 2009....

frags - I can just picture you as a "carney" LOL  I think working at a carnival or amusement park would be fun, but tiring.

Sir - it seems you figured out what you wanted to do early in life.  That is rare but very cool.  I would imagine there is a lot of satisfaction in what you do.

    1.  What is the dirtiest job you've ever had? (physically dirty): Never did any physically dirty job. BUT i can say i have been in contact with several "highly questionable" people when i was a journalist and THAT has made my job "dirty" , occasionally.

    2.  What was your favorite job? Hands down... my journalist job while i was in Italy  (many great years and memories)

    3.  Do you see yourself ever changing jobs? (or for those who are retired, do you see yourself ever going back to work?) I changed several jobs already since i moved here in the US, and with this scary economy i see as a possibility that i might change again. No one is safe right now. But I am flexible so i am confident i would be able to learn new stuff, in case.

    4.  Growing up was there a summer job that you'd love to do as an adult? I worked for 3 summers as youth camp counselor. I hated the kids (LOL) but i worked with a lot of nice people. And when the kids were in bed.....we were getting the party started....lol...

    1.  What is the dirtiest job you've ever had? (physically dirty)
Managing a Goodwill Donation Center. You don't wanna know.
    2.  What was your favorite job?
The one I have now is my favorite for the age I am.  Cutting meat was my
favorite when I was young and strong.  Owning my bookstore was my
favorite when I was doing it.
    3.  Do you see yourself ever changing jobs? (or for those who are retired, do you see yourself ever going back to work?)
No, I'll retire from the airport job...I love it.  I may still work there 2 or 3 days a
         week when I retire.

    4.  Growing up was there a summer job that you'd love to do as an adult?
Motel maid in Wildwood, down the shore.  Who wouldn't?

  • uniquely-ironic said on May 21, 2009....
ginger - the staff parties at summer camp are the best!  I enjoyed evenings after the campers were in bed too. :)

Twirlie - Oooh I'd love to own a bookstore.  I worked as a maid for a short time in college, but I really didn't like the work that much.

    1.  What is the dirtiest job you've ever had? (physically dirty)  Cleaning stalls at the barn.

    2.  What was your favorite job?  Probably doing data entry, I got to work at home, the computer was provided to me and I was paid something along the lines of $14 an hour.  I picked my own hours and everything.

    3.  Do you see yourself ever changing jobs? (or for those who are retired, do you see yourself ever going back to work?)  It's quite possible, I'm still young, and there's no way to know if I'll stick in with what I'm doing right now.

    4.  Growing up was there a summer job that you'd love to do as an adult?  I wish I could go back to cleaning stalls and working at a barn, only making the pay I currently have.  Working with horses all day ... now that's the dream, lol.

    2.  What was your favorite job? Physical therapist

    3.  Do you see yourself ever changing jobs? (or for those who are retired, do you see yourself ever going back to work?)  I see myself changing jobs - ohhhhhh - in about 8 weeks or so ;)

    4.  Growing up was there a summer job that you'd love to do as an adult?  Oh yes - I loved working at the bakery - unfortunately - my ass still shows it!
  • uniquely-ironic said on May 21, 2009....
Hege - I can't imagine liking to clean stalls, but then I would never have imagine liking working with sick people.

wishy - I had you in mind when I dreamed up #3.  Though working in a bakery to physical terrorist is a big change too! ;)

    1.  What is the dirtiest job you've ever had? (physically dirty)

My dad owned a tropical/salt water fish & small pet store when i was growing
up and i had  to have my hands in lots of dirty stuff--  cleaning tanks, cleaning
bird and small animal cages, weighing and bagging gravel, rocks, etc.  Dirty
         and hard job.

    2.  What was your favorite job?

i worked in the precursor to modern call centers doing computer network
          support back in mid 84/85.
i LOVED this job-  i was learning about a whole new world...and i loved the
balance of learning, and interaction with people all over the world.

    3.  Do you see yourself ever changing jobs? (or for those who are retired, do you  \    see yourself ever going back to work?)

Oh yes-  I will have my own business (or 2 or 3) eventually.  I have lots of
ideas, just short on time-  but one day, I'll retire and begin all over again-

    4.  Growing up was there a summer job that you'd love to do as an adult?
as a kid the only job i had was in dad's store, and I couldn't wait to escape the
family business.......i did finally at 16, to a restaurant-  and after that i never
wanted to work in another one.   ...so the answer to your question is no.
  • uniquely-ironic said on May 21, 2009....
SL - I would imagine it's no fun to work for your parents growing up.  I was lucky in that regards I guess.  I think it's neat that you found the fun in working in a call center.  It definately has it's perks.

1 Dirtiest? ~ Resort refurb team manager.  Physiclly demanding as well.

    2.  Favourite job? ~ Right now, PA accounts queen and Marketing Gurur.

    3. A change? why of course, my own B & B until then possible only a couple of hundred times.....

    4. Never ever had a sumer job our school holidays aren't like yours we get 4 weeks at xmas, and three lots of 2 weeks during the year.  Also I was a spoiled little rich brat.
  • uniquely-ironic said on May 21, 2009....

Okay, a new poll about an old subject?  IDK but I thought it would be fun.

    1.  What is the dirtiest job you've ever had? (physically dirty)
When I was a kid I worked as a bus boy in a extravagant restaurant. I had to walk to and from work dressed in a black suit and tie. I felt like a penguin. I always cleared tables and washed dishes. If somebody got sick . . . yup they'd call me to grab "the bucket" and mop. It was rough going at first but it got me started. I look back today and laugh. I have nothing but respect for anyone who works under those conditions.
    2.  What was your favorite job?
Playing Football, the pay was pretty good and I got a couple of neat rings that I treasure.

    3.  Do you see yourself ever changing jobs? (or for those who are retired, do you see yourself ever going back to work?
Today I'm self employed, I plan to work until the day I die.

    4.  Growing up was there a summer job that you'd love to do as an adult?
When I was 12 years old I started walking the neighborhood asking folks if they wanted their grass cut. I didn't make a whole lot of money but I had a lot of fun. I could have really made something out of it if I would have had to. I was very talented in cutting grass , I had a lot of clients and worked dirt cheap. I'd buy a pair of brand new white tennis shoes and within an hour they would be green. My father would always laugh at me, but I got the last laugh.
Still to this day I cut a lot of grass, I often say and act like I hate it , but I really don't . I take pleasure in cutting grass and trimming my plants and shrubbery, I guess you may say it's like a form of art work to me and I love it.  To answer your question I guess I wouldn't mind being a professional landscaper today. You ever get over here to the east side you'd know what I mean.
  • uniquely-ironic said on May 21, 2009....
CM - when I worked as a pantry chef I had the utmost respect for bussers.  They had the shittiest job in the restaurant, but they returned to work day after day.  I would split tips with them.  I think your grass cutting fetish could really be the beginning of a thriving landscaping business if you wanted it to be.
  • CayenneMan said on May 21, 2009....
uniquely-ironic, I can make anything happen but right now I just wish I could get these shoes off my feet. I think my feet have taken root. I've definitely walked to far today. Have a good night. We're going out to dinner with the Greek's tonight. The little guy tossed his top and he's bald again :o) , I just pray to God I don't start laughing.

    1.  What is the dirtiest job you've ever had? (physically dirty) volunteering at an animal shelter, gotta go w/frags there

    2.  What was your favorite job? working at my university's writing center, the tutor part, 'cause the director often put me with grad/undergrad ESL students on a semester-long basis...awesome experience; I learned a lot in return from those people -- especially a guy from Belarus who left home to study and play basketball here. He tried to teach me his alphabet as I taught him things like which article to use when. Amazing person, full of stories.

    3.  Do you see yourself ever changing jobs? (or for those who are retired, do you see yourself ever going back to work?) Oh hell yes. ;-) I don't know what for sure yet (I'm a copy editor by training but would love to go back to school), but I can't be at home forever. I need interaction and an environment that lets me exercise my brain.

    4.  Growing up was there a summer job that you'd love to do as an adult? I used to man a drink stand selling Pepsi and water for the Lions Club every 4th of July and during a street festival earlier in the summer with my grandfather...I wouldn't mind doing that kind of thing again, but it wasn't a regular job or anything...

    ~Infernal
  • uniquely-ironic said on May 21, 2009....
TIO - I bet exposure to grad/undergrads would be a very interesting experience!  Sounds like fun!  I understand about needing interaction and an environment to stimulate the brain.  You can only watch so many episodes of the Smurfs (or insert current popular cartoon) before you become a mental vegetable.
  • Hegemone said on May 21, 2009....
Yeah, cleaning stalls comes with the territory of liking the horses.  If you're devoted to the animal, you're devoted to "cleaning their room" too, lol.
  • uniquely-ironic said on May 21, 2009....
Hege - Hmmm using that logic I should like cleaning my kid's rooms, but that isn't likely to happen! LOL

    1.  Sewer cleaner.....for 6 months when I left school I worked for thames water and went into the sewers and cleaned allsorts of crap. *shivers just thinking of it*

    2. Construction/carpentry.......just love building things

    3.  Don't want to change but am finding it hard to find a new job at the moment so might be forced to do something else for a while :(

    4.  Not a summer job but as a kid I always wanted to fly.....still have a dream of learning to fly. So if it was possible to do that and work because of it I would. Then look out for me at the red bull air race :)
  • Lioness said on May 21, 2009....
    1.  What is the dirtiest job you've ever had? (physically dirty) - We had once a coastal clean-up day at work, so we went to the seashore armed with brooms and dustpans to scoop lots of weeds that were washed ashore by big waves. Does this count?? :P

    2.  What was your favorite job? I only had two jobs so far, so I say it's the job I have now--doing office works and field works

    3.  Do you see yourself ever changing jobs? (or for those who are retired, do you see yourself ever going back to work?) - yes, if there are better opportunities, why not?

    4.  Growing up was there a summer job that you'd love to do as an adult?- to be honest, I was a lazy gal in my younger years, so I only wanted to have a vacation every summer. But right now, I am contemplating on being a tutor as a summer job.
  • uniquely-ironic said on May 21, 2009....
super - that has GOT to be the worst dirty job!  I think it's neat that you like to build things with your hands.  I would guess you are very creative and artistic by nature.  Yes, we all take some jobs just to pay the bills. :(

Lioness - I guess you could find some yucky things at a beach clean up.  I'd probably rather deal with that though than spend the day indoors in an office.  Tutoring sounds like a good way to make some extra cash.
  • Hegemone said on May 21, 2009....

    3.  Do you see yourself ever changing jobs? (or for those who are retired, do you see yourself ever going back to work?) Eventually

    4.  Growing up was there a summer job that you'd love to do as an adult? Didn't have a summer job growing up.

    1.  Dirtiest job? Cleaning toilets and bathrooms when I was in prison. Oh, you mean a paying job? I guess it had to be as artist doing prints and murals. My fingernails and pants were always stained with greasy inks and paints.

    2.  Favorite job? Too many to mention here. Mostly in the field of journalism and software development.

    3.  Changing jobs? I'm always changing jobs. My work resume defies categorization, except that I put myself solidly among the ranks of the working class.

    4.  Summer job that you'd love to do as an adult? As a radio broadcast volunteer. I wrote a post about it, entitled The summer radio kid grows up. I'm waiting for a certain call from a certain agency, to do everything all over again, only a bit more high-tech this time. I'm still thinking if I'll accept the offer, but it promises to be a very tempting one ... ;-)

No physically dirty jobs...but emotionally dirty...my last human resource management position because of the vile general manager.

    2.  What was your favorite job?

Employment Manager for one of the big-six hotels...glamourous, exciting, and fun.  I also owned my own employment agency for several years...and hated every moment of it.
