I seriously might need them.  It's been raining cats and dogs since about 5:00 this morning.  My weather radio has been going off with watches and warnings galore.  If the sun manages to come out today, we'll be in for more excitement this evening.

Welcome to spring.

There were some deadly tornadoes here in the Midwest earlier this week.  I have a nervous feeling in the pit of my stomach today.  That's not usually a good sign.  I tend to get that before a big storm.  (I know I'm weird.)

When the warnings get too close, I start gathering things to go to the basement with me.  Flashlight, purse, my file box, cell phone, and sometimes I take the computer down there with me.  If it's really bad, my granny dog gets to come with me.  There's a radio already down there.

Tornadic storms are both scary and fascinating.  I don't mind watching them from a distance if they do no damage, but up close they are monsters.

If you are in tornado alley with me, keep your head down today.

Hope they miss you CW. Have never seen one except on tv. (((((hugs)))))

I think we just might be in tornado alley later on today, and I, for one, am sick of this rain and crap.  I love the wind, and the smells and the sounds ... but not the damage or the WET, lol.  I hope you don't see any dangerous weather where you're at, I'll be thinking of ya CW.  Take care!

Thanks superbozo.  I hope they miss us too.  It's 10:30 a.m. here and looks like late evening out there.  I just have to pay attention to the sky today.

    Hege,
I don't mind the storms so much in the daytime, but at night they are a little spookier because you can't see them coming at you...out here in the country...unless the lightning is wicked and then you shouldn't be by the window or outside anyway.  We are under a flash flood warning here until about noon today.

Put some rocks in your pockets too.  :-)

I'll be keeping an eye on this to see how it goes.  I love storms too, but like you I prefer them from a distance.  Be safe!

CW, I know how you feel, when all you can do is HEAR what's coming, watch in between lightning fits or try to see if the weather men know their ass from a hole in the ground for the particular day.  I'm especially uncomfortable during bad weather purely because our house is literally surrounded by trees, some of them older, some of them dead, and most of them VERY large.  I haven't gotten to see what sorts of weather warnings we're under yet, but I know they weren't saying it was going to be nasty rainy yucky weather later in the day.  I just hope it holds off until I get in my car to go home from work ... I don't even have a window to know that much either, lol!

I've only seen a water spout, never a tornado, but that was enough to scare me to death!  I don't know how you put up with the threat.  In NC we often get tornado watch alerts on tv, and I panic every time.  My husband assures me we're too close to the ocean to be concerned, but that only makes me worry about tidal waves.

    uniquely,
Thanks. It's an ominous looking day here.  Maybe if the sun stays under it won't get as bad out as it could if the atmosphere heats up. I'll keep my head down.  The thunder is rumbling now again.

    Hege,
I hope you get safely home before any storm hits there.  I also have a lot of trees.  There are pine trees hundreds of feet tall all around me.  I love trees, so I don't complain too much.  It does make the heart beat a bit faster when they branches start whipping in the wind though.

    Twyla,
I've grown up with tornadoes.  I keep up with the forecast and take shelter when they tell me too.  :-)  I've been in many, many tornado warnings.  I was even in a store once when I was herded to a shelter in the store until the tornado warning was over.  The sun was shining when I had gone in the store.  Sometimes they move in fast.

I am exactly the same way.  I don't sleep much on those kinds of nights.

Unless you are a storm chaser, I don't think anyone likes them.

CW....as you know, the tunnel North Texas-Oklahoma is land of some pretty scary deadly tornadoes during this season........

I have been in the path of their erratic run more than once since i live here...
Years ago, a tornado touched ground two blocks before my daughter's elementary school, managed to skip it and touched ground few miles behind...
My daughter was at school, btw.

No, me no likey them at all.....lol...
    I don't want be Dorothy.

    You hold on Toto, ok?
  • CreativeWoman said on May 15, 2009....
    Lucy,
The storms weren't nearly as bad as they predicted for my area.  We got lots of heavy rain and some flash flooding.  I would say we got off easy.  :-)

    ginger,
Yes, I know you can get some wicked storms where you are too.  I'm glad that your daughter was safe.  It is amazing how they can flatten one building and leave the one standing next to it unscathed.

You stay safe this tornado season too.  :-)

That's what I don't like about tornadoes....you get little if no warning when they are going to hit.  Even here we get them though nothing like in tornado alley.  I'm always on the lookout when I see heavy dark clouds for the touch down telltale sign.
One good thing about hurricanes is that you at least get some days to prepare for them.
    Stay safe CW.

    ipmat,
They name hurricanes after women and I really don't know why.  I'm glad you don't have tornadoes.

    queen,
    I did...always try to.

    Rc,
I've never experienced a hurricane.  I can imagine they are pretty scary too.  I would definitely evacuate if at all possible.
