Why are we here? Why do we blog on Soulcast? Community!
I'm a gamer and enjoy playing games. I always have. (This will make sense, keep reading!)
I'm not into platform games really, or driving games but they're good for a bit of fun.
I love playing RPGs. (Role Playing Games). The basis of these games is that you take on the role of the character as he/she follows the plot of a storyline.
Final Fantasy has always been a favourite of mine and will remain my favourite console game.
The invention of the world wide web opened a whole new world for me. Interaction with other people using gaming as the conduit for the community that console RPG games lacked.
Known as MMORPGs (Mega Multi Online Role Playing Games), these games promote interaction with other players. You can't truly be a part of the online games unless you interact with others.
One of the best times of my life was when I started playing one particular game online. I joined a guild within the game and over the course of 5 years a bond was formed with these people I played this game with. Lasting friendships were created all through the conduit of an online game. Unfortunately, the game didn't stay up and some of us drifted to new things. Most of us tried new games together and most of us are still in touch with each other.
I'm more of a developer now and I just don't have as big a heart for actually playing.
The point of this post is that no matter what the conduit is, whether it's an online game or a blog site such as our beloved Soulcast, there is that community spirit. Bonds are made that are lasting. The people you interact with become a part of your life to a degree and these friendships formed are, I've found, much stronger than friendships formed off the screen.
I think the PC (Or mac if you use one ;)) acts as a kind of buffer and you can be more "yourself" and you find it easier to share. Those people you interact with and become part of your life influence you and are influenced by you in turn.
I know I haven't been a member of soulcast for long but I already feel that I've made some true friendships here and I am ever grateful for such a warm friendly place where I can relax, unwind and be myself. So thank you to those of you who have taken the time to interact with me and become part of my life!
