Well, I feel it's fair to at least show you all the horses that sparked the beginning of my hands on horsey life.  I had always liked horses, and these were definitely not the first I'd ever seen, or been around, but they introduced me to riding and all of the things that come with that and eventually owning a horse.  I also want to add that both of the horses I'm sharing photos with you of are related to my mare as well.  The first is a 2nd or 3rd generation cousin to my mare, the second is a half brother to her.  I'm proud to say that these two are relations to mine for sure.

Arizona

This big guy is the horse of anybody's dreams.  He is the horse that I officially learned to ride on.  I got my balance and confidence on this horse.  He is and was a dream.  He's the most patient, unflinching animal you could ever come across.  In essence, he's a huge teddy bear with an appetite, lol.  That was one of the only downfalls about it ... he'll go to great lengths to eat, even if you're riding, no matter how fast you're going.  I can't tell you how many times reins were ripped out of my hands so he could grab a mouthful of grass, or leaves, or whatever had gained his interested.  There were even a couple of sets of reins broken because of it.  Of course all we could do was laugh, it wasn't as if I was in danger.  This is also the horse, that upon stumbling and beginning a fall with me on his back, getting ready to topple off over his right shoulder and eventually UNDER him if the fall would have gone as was probable, used all of his strength to hurl himself back up and over in the other direction to right me in the saddle and not fall on me.  He strained his shoulder a little bit and lost a shoe in the process, which I still have, but I was not hurt one bit, only a little shaken and worried about him.  He'll be in my heart for life.

King

This lanky looking fella is the horse I advanced my riding experience on.  I learned to jump higher jumps on him.  This is the horse that gave me the confidence and skill to jump 4 foot high fences.  He was a handful for sure, as he was VERY speedy, but he knew what he was doing.  I have to admit that this horse was about as professional as you could get when it came to riding.  He knew what his job was and he did it.  I also groomed for him as my friend rode him in shows and that was exhilerating.  I have many memories of this guy, including the very first show I groomed at, during which he promptly stepped on my foot and pressed his weight down the more I grunted and hollered and pushed to get him off.  Lucky that he came out of that show a champion or I might have really throttled him.  That devilish look in his eye told me he knew what he was doing too.  Then there was one of the last shows we went it, a sort of big deal of a show as well, and that little bastard rolled while I was holding his lead rope, as he was wearing his blanket.  It could have been catastrophic, but luckily I was able to stay out of his way and keep the lead rope out of his legs' way and coax him up fairly quickly.  Oh he is a beauty for sure as well and he's also reserved a permanent place in my heart.

Lacey Spring 09

Yes, now here are the pictures you were really waiting for, lol.  Isn't it such a pretty background behind her as well?  That's just one portion of the pasture she gets to roam.  This place is a no man's land basically, because once she gets to this part of the pasture there is certainly no hope at all of catching her with all of the trees she has to weave in and out from.

Lacey Spring 09 3

I got a little closer up, and at this point she's looking at me as if to say 'Really mom, pictures, AGAIN?  Gaawwwwd!'  It was priceless, but a beautiful day and I couldn't resist!

Lacey Spring 09 2

Then naturally, she wasn't in the mood for pictures once she realized what I was doing and promtly went back to stuffing her face.  Pig.  But I love her.

MMI  - Lol, you can live vicariously through me ... nasty, gory sores to tend to, horsey hugs, kicks, exciting greetings, bites and all!  Lol.  Definitely well taken care of.  I'm pretty sure I take better care of my horse than I do myself sometimes, that spoiled brat.  The other two were the same, so go figure I'd do this with mine ... they and their owner were who I learned it from!

What  graceful animals hege.. beautiful pictures.. which one is the horse that was 'smiling' once in some other pics you'd put up?
  • Hegemone said on May 13, 2009....
DD - Thank you!  The horse in the bottom three pictures, my horse, was the one smiling.

hege- You know I like these. Its about time. You're so lucky to have that guy.

The first pic has the greenest green anybody could want. Is that where you live also?

Ooh I love horses!  They've been my favorite animal forever it seems. You're so lucky! They're beautiful, I'm glad you shared them :)

hey Hege, Sitting here with my princess on my knee. She wants a go lol.

I like the sound of the first horse. Could do with one like that for myself :)

Beyond - I'm glad you've enjoyed then.  As far as the pasture in the first picture, no I don't live there, but it's within 40 miles of where I live, so that at least gives you the idea that the area is generally pretty nice.  I know my horse would love it if she could roll in those pastures for a while, but I think she'd miss all of her old hiding spots too, lol.

Ninja - I'm glad you enjoyed!

Bozo - Lol, well, the closest I can get to setting you in the right direction for that type of horse ... go for a Quarter Horse.  They're smart and generally unflinching.  Also, he didn't grow out of his "wild ass" mode all together until he was about 10, so age is relative.  It's too bad you're so far over yonder ... else I'd try to rig up a visit and a ride for Princess.  The big guy's retired from adults riding him, but little girls, that's never a problem ... he LOVES children.

Your love shines through this post, Heggies!  The words, and images speaks of pride and devotion :) .

They are all wonderful, my favourites (and Jillian´s!) were the first  and second to the last pictures.

So happy you could find time and peace to share them!

    <3 paper ~

    p.s.

superbozo, lol I have the littlest on my lap too while I read, and look at the pictures!

Paper - Most definitely that is how I feel.  The horses are an integral part of me and if I did not have this slice of my life, I wouldn't be me at all, and I have a feeling I'd be a miserable bum too.  My horse managed to strike some pretty good poses, I'm just lucky that I got the camera out in time to capture them.  I'm so happy that you guys enjoyed!

flippin' heck CJ - I promise i'm not stalking you ha ha!  3rd post i've just come in on minutes behind you ;-)

Oh Hege - they are so beauitful.  I am so lucky to live in the same grounds as the landlord's stables and there have been so many foals born over the past few weeks - such gangly things, it's hard to believe they can even hold their weight up on those little stick legs lol!  Every one is so different in nature I can see why you love horses so much :-)
  • Hegemone said on May 14, 2009....
MsStar - I'm glad you enjoyed them.

CJ - Glad to see you popping in and definitely glad you enjoyed!

PC - Oh I LOVE spring time when all the foals start arriving, they're the cutest things ever.  It's so adorable watching them try to stand up, and then those tiny little tails flipping around warding off flies, or trying to anyway!  Yes, so far every horse I've come across has had quite it's own personality, and each has had something admirable.

Heggie....horses are such elegant, beautiful, intelligent and mythical creatures...

Just put a long horn on their forehead and you have magical unicorns....:-)

My father loved horse too.......he had two...two white horses....the older one could smell him from miles away....she would start scratching the fence with her paw until he would show up to pat her or ride her.....lovely creature...

But the younger one bit me on my back....i swear...one day i was talking with my boyfriend  and i was leaning against the fence.....she approached me from behind looking for food (i was feeding her but i had finished the apples) and she bit me ..i had a red mark on my back.....we had to take a photo of it.....lol......that stinker......
