I may regret this, but here it goes.  I get the feeling that there are people here who have questions about who I am and what I've done in life.  (me among them, but that can't be helped!)  So in an effort to make my life more transparent and also get to know you all better I'll trade a question for a question.

The only "rules" are 1) I reserve the right to not include anything that's happened in the past 6 months in my answer and 2) I may not get as specific as you'd like in order to protect the privacy of a third party.

Ready?  Okay, let me have your question!

    What's your biggest regret?

  • uniquely-ironic said on May 12, 2009....
wishy - never having finished college.  Now, have you ever worked in another field other than the one you currently work?

If you could live anywhere in the world, where would that be?

  • uniquely-ironic said on May 12, 2009....
CW - Hmmm, I don't think I've discovered thee place I could spend the rest of my live yet, but I do know that warm weather and a beach would be mandatory. (no bugs would be helpful!)  Your question:  If you could have any job in the world, what would it be?
  • CreativeWoman said on May 12, 2009....
I would be the writer of wildly successful mystery novels.  :-)  OR  I would have my own little high end boutique where I sold exclusively my own handmade creations.  People would scramble for them.  lol

CW - both really cool jobs!
  • wishyouwerehere said on May 12, 2009....
Hi Uni - never too late to go back and finish, my dear - this coming from the world's oldest PhD student!

I started in health care when I was 18 - I was a nurses' aide.  Then, I became a physical therapist, but in between, working my way through school, I was also a singing waitress (talk about losing your appetite) a sales clerk, a receptionist and a cleaning person.  I went back for a teaching degree after being injured because I can't treat patients full-time anymore.

Now, I'm going back to school so I can do more research.

CW - I love your answer!  Make that dream come true, author!
  • uniquely-ironic said on May 12, 2009....
wishy - I'm not ruling it out, but I definately wouldn't finish the major I started back when.
  • Hegemone said on May 12, 2009....
OK, I'll bite ... and this one will make you think ... but I hope it makes ya think of something great and maybe give you another option to make yourself a little happier.  :-)

What is one thing that makes you unequivocally happy that you don't do a lot for no particularly good reason (i.e. the thing that if somebody asked you 'Well why don't you?' your genuine answer would baffle even you because it would be 'I don't know', meaning there is no real good reason you don't do it)?
  • uniquely-ironic said on May 12, 2009....
I do have an answer for this and you're right about being baffled about why I don't do more of it ....... voluteer my time to help others.  Yup!  Wish I did it full time instead of paid work.  Nothing feels as good as having helped others.

Now, your question ........ If you could pick your family, who would be in it?
  • Hegemone said on May 12, 2009....
If I could pick my family, as in, specific people I know, or what members would there be (mom, dad, brother, sisters, cousins, etc.)?

Specific People - To keep it simple, I'm working from parents down as none of my grandparents are alive anymore anyway.  I'd keep my mom, I don't think I'd keep my dad (therefore exempting his whole side of the family as well) and I can't think of anybody to fill that position either.  I'd probably have my friend up in Chicago as my brother, and I don't have any siblings now so it'd be nice ... I think, lol.  I think I might throw out everybody on my mom's side of the family except my aunt and cousin that she lives with.  Now this is the point where I pull in people from SC.  I think I'd pull you, Fraggles, Lucy and CW in as aunts to me.  I know that may sound odd ... but there's just something about each of you, and I look up to you each a little bit for various different reasons.  I think that's extensive enough for now, right?

Generally - I'd ideally like to have a mom, dad, and a brother ... the rest of the family (aunts, uncles, cousins, etc.) aren't really that big to me, so I can't say that I would want any for sure in this sense, since I'm not choosing specific people.
  • uniquely-ironic said on May 12, 2009....
Hege - Wow, what a shake up in your tree!  Thank you for considering me good aunt material.  I think I do a pretty decent job of that in RL too.  Good answer.

  • paper~InEurope said on May 13, 2009....

Hmmm, I love these kind of posts in general :) , uni .  I wish others will follow suit.

My question, what 5 things would you like to have accomplished in 5 years?

    paper ~

  • uniquely-ironic said on May 13, 2009....
queenie - done it as in kissed? no, done it as in sex? again no.  I'm really not into girls.  Now yours: where do you see yourself in five years?

Grape - Good question!  One would be The Book of Five Rings by Musashi and the other would be Jonathan Livingston Seagull by Bach.  Both had a profound impact on how I see the world.  Yours: What do you consider the ultimate hell?

Voltaire - no need to sit.  I am musically gifted.  I was humming tunes back to my father before I could sit or speak.  I have perfect pitch.  yours: If you could enhance one of your senses, which one would it be?

fromtheheart - I was 19 when I first fell in love.  I still love that man even though it just didn't work out due to distance.  I was 21 when I had my first lover.  I feel ambivilent about him now.  yours : If you were given $5000 and dropped off at a mall with instructions to spend the entire amount on yourself in 4 hours, what would you buy?
  • uniquely-ironic said on May 13, 2009....
Paper! you snuck in while I was answering!  Okay here it goes .....

    1) become debt free.
    2) see my daughter in college.
    3) travel to many countries.
    4) find a soulmate.
    5) know that my son has a goal in life rather than float along.

yours: What is the one thing that you want your girls to know about life?
  • queenparanoia said on May 13, 2009....
    1. with the person i love, possibly in another country, and wearing a chef's hat... ;-)
  • uniquely-ironic said on May 13, 2009....
queenie - I hope to see that happen for you.
  • PAPERBACKWRITER said on May 13, 2009....

Uni, thanks for sharing!  They are wonderful set of goals, which I am sure you will achieve :)

I would like the girls to appreciate and treasure their lives; I strive to be an example ~ live what I would like them to learn.

Life has endless possibilities, and they each have it in them, to create their simple happiness, that is what I want them to know about life.

Thanks for the lovely question; it felt good to ponder on it .

    :)
    paper ~

Paper - with you setting an example for them I'm sure they will be blessed with that lesson. :)
  • ipmat said on May 13, 2009....
    why the name uniquely-ironic .........????
  • uniquely-ironic said on May 13, 2009....
ipmat - because there are things about me that are definately unique and some are very ironic given the context of my life.  I also tend to see the irony in life.  yours: you are fairly new here, so what is it that attracted you to this site?
  • GrapeKoolaid said on May 13, 2009....
Interesting choices.  Let's see...  My idea of hell...  Lately, I've been into Ironic hell, like stranded on a deserted island with canned food and no can opener.  :D

Here's an easy one for you.  What did you learn about yourself today?
  • uniquely-ironic said on May 13, 2009....
Grape - Well, it's early in the day, but so far I've learned that I'm not as alone as I sometimes feel.  That I am beginning to build a circle of RL friends that color and enhance my life.  yours: when did you first realize that you were loved?
  • GrapeKoolaid said on May 13, 2009....
Now isn't that the oddest thing?  I sat here thinking about my life and I can't seem to recall a single instance when this realization ever came to me.

    Until the other day.

I've been working towards getting closer to a certain someone (as you know) and I learned the other day that certain someone has been doing the same.  At least thinking about it.

I think that's the closest I've ever come.

Now you:  A food item that you absolutely cannot live without?
  • uniquely-ironic said on May 13, 2009....
Grape - never?! wow, weird.  But maybe it's a guy thing.

answer: easy peasy! Chocolate and yes it does count!
question:  If censorship became insane, would you break the law?
  • GrapeKoolaid said on May 13, 2009....
I'm sure I've broken an indecency law or two already.  :D

Now you:  Pampered pet, or wild animal?
  • uniquely-ironic said on May 13, 2009....
Grape - LOL I don't want to know which indecency law it was!!! [fingers in ears]

answer: I've been both, but right now I'm more wild animal.  Grrrr!
question:  What was the place (geographically) that you loved living the best?
  • GrapeKoolaid said on May 13, 2009....
Hmm...  I seem to recall an indecent incident involving a wild animal...  o_O!!!

Answer:  Oh that's an easy one.  Dallas, TX.  (Though I haven't been there in the summer...  yet...  I've only stayed there at most a couple of weeks...  Does that count?)

Now you:  What is your greatest power?  Conversely, what is your greatest weakness?  (If that counts as two questions, I'll answer two from you as well)

I know...  It's kind of a "job interview" question, but I didn't think you'd give me a "job interview" answer.  ;)
  • uniquely-ironic said on May 13, 2009....
Grape - I think Texas has more to do with the company than the place?!

First question - Wow, tough question.  I think my greatest "power" is the ability to really see both point of view in an argument.  It sucks to really understanding that the other person's point is valid, if only because it's their view when you're trying to persuade them to do "something" your way. LOL

Second question - my fear of acting on my decisions/convictions for fear of failing.  You'd think I'd be comfortable with failure at this point, but it still frightens me to the point of inaction.

Yours:  If you were a woman (I know, an impossible scenario) what would you see as your biggest perk?  and related second question - What would be the biggest drawback to being female?
  • Voltaire said on May 13, 2009....
If you could enhance one of your senses, which one would it be?
My eye sight, the others are perfectly well.
  • uniquely-ironic said on May 13, 2009....
Voltaire - your eyesight is not "normal"?  I've always thought that touch would be a fun one to enhance.
  • GrapeKoolaid said on May 13, 2009....
    Indeed it does.  :)

It's interesting that your power/weaknesses are so closely related.  Your inability to make decisions comes due to your tendency to exhaust all options, see many sides of an argument.

If I were a woman...  I would squat over a mirror and play with myself all day.  Just being honest is all.  Plus, I think a sun-dress or a skirt could be very freeing.  XD

Biggest drawback?  I don't think I'd like bleeding for a week out of every month.  And the accompanying cramps and water retention and all that loveliness.  Though the rumor on my side of the camp is that it also gives you ladies a convenient excuse to be a b****.

Not trying to get flamed here or start a war or anything.  That's just what the spies have told us.  We have some in drag infiltrated amongst your ranks.  :)

Now you:  If you could have a theme song, what would it be?
  • uniquely-ironic said on May 13, 2009....
Grape - You'd eventually get bored of playing by yourself, though playing with someone could take longer to get bored of ;)  As for excuses to be blitches, well, if you bled and cramped for a week you'd find a way to relieve some of the stress.  No flames or war, just honest feedback.

answer: Not sure why, but the Adams Family song keeps running through my head today.  Just saying ........  But the song from Dead Like Me is cool too.

question: What is the weirdest thing you've ever eaten?
  • Voltaire said on May 13, 2009....
    U-I,
No I'm short sighted. However that is pretty common. A pair of glasses and it's ok.
My hearing and smell are better then average already.
  • GrapeKoolaid said on May 13, 2009....
It's a tie between fried grasshoppers and a live octopus.  Both traumatizing events in my youth.  I was being a little baby about it at the time but to be fair, I was a little kid.  No more than 6.  [blech]

If you had to choose between one or the other, do you prefer a mate with ugly hands, or feet?
  • beyondtheveil said on May 13, 2009....
unique- Is there something that could happen to you that you fear more than anything else? (you, not loss of someone)
  • uniquely-ironic said on May 13, 2009....
voltaire - I used to be.  I had lazik surgery and it was great!  Of course now I'm getting old and need reading glasses.

Grape - I think even at 6 I would have pitched an epic fit if either were placed in front of me as food.  I thought swiss chard was bad.

answer: feet!  I can avoid the feet, but not the hands.
question: Have you ever felt drawn to a complete stranger to the point of going out of your way to speak to them?

BTV - I fear a lot of things happening to me, but the worst I think would be the loss of my eyesight.  It would impact me on so many levels that it makes me cringe just thinking about it!

question: What is the one thing you'd most like to hear before you die?
  • Voltaire said on May 13, 2009....
    U-I,
I have one more, a old classic actually. Do you fear death?
  • uniquely-ironic said on May 13, 2009....
Voltaire - Not as much as a lot of people.  Of course I'm merely human and fear the pain that precedes death more than the actual death.  I'm pretty much at peace with the "after life".

question:  If you believe(d) in heaven and hell and died tomorrow, where do you think you'd go?
  • travelr712 said on May 13, 2009....
so many good questions! i was reading them and trying to answer them for myself :-)

mine is sort of the anthesis of hege's. what is one thing you do that you wish you didn't, but can't seem to stop?

Ok tell me one of your childhood ambitions that embarass you now.. cause we all have one, right?
  • fragglesrock said on May 13, 2009....
hmmm....of course i'm coming in late of this (as always)....ok, so, are you a natural blonde? ;)
  • uniquely-ironic said on May 13, 2009....
trav - I'm thinking the word "do" is missing after didn't.  So here's my answer based on that assumption.  I wish I thought things through more often and based my decisions on logic rather than heart.

question:  If tomorrow logic was removed from the equation, what is the first thing you would do?

MMM - You know me so well.  That makes it tough to surprise you.  Probably that I can pitch the most amazing fits of temper and then be fine a 1/2 hour later.

question:  If you had a month and unlimited funds and mobility, where would you go?
  • uniquely-ironic said on May 13, 2009....
dd - LOL well, I did want to marry one of the Bay City Rollers when I was in 8th grade.  Looking back now I think it would NOT have worked out.

question:  What is the one emotion you struggle with the most?

frags - despite the accusation that keep popping up, no!  I'm actually a borderline red head! (no great surprise there with my temperment)

question:  What was your most embarrassing mommy moment ever? (this is going to be good!)
  • fragglesrock said on May 13, 2009....

oh shit uni, it's a goodie, it will take me a few minutes to decide if i actually want to tell

  • uniquely-ironic said on May 13, 2009....
frags - you can change the names to protect the innocent ;)
  • MissMimi said on May 13, 2009....
That's an easy one.  I'd go on the Great SoulCast Magical Mystery Tour in an RV complete with a full-time driver -- a world-wide extravaganza of meeting and hugging all the friends I've made here, and a few other places online, with stops across this continent and several others.

    Wanna go with me?

  • beyondtheveil said on May 13, 2009....
unique- The one thing I'd like to heart most before I die is (on death bed) my wife to say she 'wouldn't have had it any other way', (in general) 'We've found the cure for cancer'.

To heaven actually, if I'd go to hell I know one thing for sure; I'd make it a living hell for Satan! *grins*
  • diabolicdame said on May 13, 2009....
uni.. lol.. yeah some ambitions are better left unaccomplished.. lol.. hahaha.. :-D

hmmmnn.. one emotion I stuggle with.. you're making me think.. thats a good one.  I'm irrationally scared of losing loved ones.. its that fear I struggle with.. sometimes its a little over-powering and I have to literally push it out of my mind.

Also anger maybe.. I have a bit of a temper and although I cool down quick, I try not to cause too much damage or say something too hurtful when I'm boiling.. I can kinda blow my lid sometimes.. hehe.. I'm trying to keep it on longer and longer.
  • travelr712 said on May 13, 2009....
oh my, how well you know me uni! and yes, that was the intent of my question.

your question seems very ambiguous to my overly logical mind, so it's really difficult for me to answer. i mean, it's sorta like asking what i would do if tomorrow arms were removed from the equation. but i can answer that one, i'd learn to smoke with my toes :-)

i think if tomorrow logic were removed from the equation, i would change my career to professional musician.
  • starchini said on May 13, 2009....
Uni...are you a reverend or something?  What do you do for a living?  I seem to remember a snipet of you being ordained?
  • fragglesrock said on May 13, 2009....

the 1st one i was going to share is just too horrible even on an anon. blog, so i'm going for my second choice, since, i do owe you an answer....

used to be a girl that was married to one of my husband's friends.  i didn't care for her and was often forced to entertain her.  she was the type to sit around and get drunk and rail at the world with her very bad attitude.

in a conversation that i didn't think my 4 year old son was listening to nor would understand i was lamenting about this woman and saying how all she does is get drunk and bitch.

next time she shows up with her hubby my son, ever so innocently, says to her "my mommy says that all you ever do is drink beer and be mean"

  • fragglesrock said on May 13, 2009....

  • uniquely-ironic said on May 13, 2009....
MMM - I'm packing my suitcase already.  Can we get a cute single male driver for the RV?!

BTV - sweet about your wife :)  but wouldn't them finding the cure for cancer just as you die kind of piss you off if you died of cancer?!!

Voltaire - I keep thinking I'd have more familiar company in hell, but the living conditions would be ....... hell!!!

dd - the loss of a loved one is scary mostly because we have so little control over it really, as for temper, I'm a lot like that myself.

trav - Hmmmm musician!  I could see that!

star - Yes, I am an ordained minister, but I work as a glorified secretary.  (that was three questions you stinker!)

your question:  How would you spend your energy if you were forced to give up stressing about details up?

Answer:  No.  I, however, am a crazy-magnet.  Crazy people are drawn to me and compelled to share things about themselves that I have no business knowing.  It happens in public all the time.

Now you:  Slow and drawn out death for your enemies?  Or a quick, merciful death?
  • uniquely-ironic said on May 13, 2009....
from - I don't think I told my first lover about my first love.  It didn't seem like it would accomplish anything and he didn't ask.  As a general rule I don't discuss my romantic or sexual partner history with my current partners unless there are health implications.

ipmat - so a friend of a friend.

Grape - LOL I think you're about the 4th person on SC to tell me about their being a crazy person magnet.  I, of course, am a huge magnet to all things crazy or freaky.

answer:  Are they my enemy because they've wronged me or is it a war type thing?  If personal enemy I prefer long and drawn out, if war quick and merciful.

How would you spend your energy if you were forced to give up stressing about details?

goodness...thats a doozy of a question...Its pretty simple though.  Id be able to do what I want.  What I want to do is open a no-kill animal shelter.  Id pour all my energy into caring for abandoned aminals.... : )  That would just be sooo awesome.

For now though, id settle for volunteering more often at the humane society that is now only a few feet behind my house.  : )

So are you a minister minister...like, did you go to ministry school?  Or did you just get your license online like my brother is going to so that he can marry me?

What is your idea of "bliss" when you are (or have to be) by yourself (i.e. warm fire, cozy flannel blanket, good book, etc)?
  • uniquely-ironic said on May 15, 2009....
ginger - I like the way you think!

java - Hmmmm.  Bliss.  I'm thinking a hot shower with good smelling soap followed by a cozy bed and some good music to lull me to sleep.

your question:  What is your version of comfort (or soul) food?
