Last night as I sat in my room with laptop, TV and music going it occurred to me that perhaps I'm hiding from the world.  Hoping that if it doesn't see me, it won't give me another beating.  You see, I had promised myself that I would go for a walk after work, but instead I flopped on the bed and plugged into my electronic umbilical cord of comfort.

I was irritated with myself for doing that, but then the devil on my shoulder convinced me that my feet hurt and walking was stupid.  I really need to hire someone to exorsize that devil off of my shoulder.  He talks me into doing nothing far too often.  I need to hire the angel on the other shoulder a personal trainer so that it is less wimpy.

I used to be so much better about deciding what to do and then following through.  I managed to plow through opposition and push aside my personal demons with a lot less effort.  Now a days it seems as if I need outside help to get my butt into gear and do something!  When did I become such a porch hound?  Blech!

Any suggestions on how to shake the lethargy out of these bones?

Just get up and do it, even if it sucks?  I go through the same thing, I can rationalize my way out of anything, lol, but usually just exercise.  Perhaps if you really don't want to go out for a walk, get up and do some cleaning of some type, I know it might stink, but it technically will burn calories, you don't have to leave, and you could maybe trick your brain that way.  Also, don't sit down when you come home from work.  If you've got things to do, or a walk to take ... do like I pretty much do, I come home, change out of my work clothes into regular clothes and then I begin doing whatever needs done whether it's a walk, cleaning or shopping.  If I give myself a chance to sit and slow down, nothing gets done, and at least if I just start zooming into it while I'm still up I feel better when I do peter out and sit down, never to rise again, lol.

if you have any suggestions please tell me... ive been hiding in this room for a few months now... well maybe we could dance together uni!!! ;-)

Hege - I know you're right, but damn it if I can talk my headstrong feet into staying on the floor! LOL  Maybe I should bring my walking shoes with me to work and go straight to a hiking trail after work.  If I avoid my room maybe the lure of the marshmellow bed won't suck me in.

queenie - not a bad idea!  I have a webcam and you can teach me your moves. :)
  • queenparanoia said on May 12, 2009....
uni: we could have a dance party here!!! ;-)

Personally, I think doing nothing has a distinct array of advantages.

lol, we are discoing to the tune of the vacuum cleaner over here in cheeseland, unilicious!

my laptop is like a doggie biscuit for me, when I have done something productive, I go and sit with my doggie biscuit LOL... I have to watch out though that I don´t get buried with virtual crumbs hahaha...

seriously, I can relate so much to what you have written...but yeah, I am trying this out with my "laptop time/reward time" to assuage my guilt...soon the ration of work out vs fun time behind the screen will be balanced!  i am a hopeless optimist LOL

    paper ~

BTV - LOL well, you're probably right, but doing nothing so much is definately not the answer for me.
  • fragglesrock said on May 12, 2009....
hmm...i might not be the right one to give advice...have you SEEN my ass lately? anyways, what works for me (when i'm in the mood for making something work for me) is to tell myself "you only have to do 10 minutes of walking" or whatever it is...because once you're out there doing it as long as you know that you CAN quit after 10 minutes you'll end up doing alot more.  There will be times that you're really not feeling it but if you set your goal low it won't be so difficult to obtain
  • uniquely-ironic said on May 12, 2009....
paper - good idea!  I do that at work.  Do something work related, get a few minutes to check SC or other sites.  Do something else work related, more time goofing off.

frags - does walking to Taco Bell to buy ass growing burritos count? [looks hopeful]  I had to laugh at "when i'm in the mood for making something work for me" mostly because that could have come out of my mouth. :)

Uni, I had very much the same habits when I lived alone in south dakota back in the day when i first started blogging here...I cant pin point what made me so lazy...but I got out of it...

I think its got something to do with your frame of mind.  And I think ones frame of mind has a lot to do with their happiness and ability to love themselves...

You gotta remember to do what is good for you bc you love yourself and you want yourself to be healthy and happy.   Right?

Most of the time when i give into my lazy desires, i feel like shit afterward, hating myself for being so worthless...

Ive talked myself into going on some walks lately...the key for me is having someone to do it with...

When i tell myself im going on a walk, i dont when i planned on going alone.  But when i ask someone to go with me, it makes it easier to go, it makes it funner...

When i wanna do it alone i figure "eh, im alone wether im on the sidewalk in my walking shoes or infront of the computer, whats the diff, the computer is easier"...

Anywhoo, when i failed when i tried to do it alone, i then asked Phil and he said no at first but i made him go with me and i really enjoyed it!  It was way better then watching tv and i felt better about myself.

It feels so good to be able to say at the end of the day "I did something that was good for my body and my soul"....

Anywhooooo, thats my advice to get out of the lazy funk.  Get a buddy to go do un lazy things with and try to remember its not excersize and its not something you have to do or force yourself to do, try to remember that its something you WANT to do.  Even if you feel like you dont want to do it now, remember that afterward you will feel good about doing it and its that afterward feeling that you want...  : )

    Sorry im so long winded...

Star - it would be nice to have someone to do these things with.  I know that when I had someone at home to do them with I did them more often.
  • alabamagirl said on May 12, 2009....
Okay, this may be no help but it works for me.  When I need to do something I'm not looking forward to....like exercise, I think of something else I need to do that I hate even more...maybe handwash my car or sweep and mop the floor, then I definitely get off my butt and exercise b/c that sounds much better to me than the other things I need to do!
  • Lucytorial said on May 12, 2009....
LOL Hide your laptop from yourself? IDK fucking hell woman just get up, walk out the door and put one foot in front of the other...
  • uniquely-ironic said on May 12, 2009....
alabama - only thing worse than exersizing is cleaning the shower.  Hmmm, might work.

Lu - what?!!  no way I'm hiding my laptop with my faulty memory!  I might never find it again!  I'm still looking for my other purple earring.
  • Lucytorial said on May 12, 2009....
teee he hee Hey I got your package... those photos turned out way cool thank you so much. I love the one of both of us in that retaurant, David thinks we both look very pretty. :-D
  • uniquely-ironic said on May 12, 2009....
Lu - It arrived much quicker than other things I've sent!  I like that picture too!  I think it's my favorite of the bunch.
  • crybabylu said on May 12, 2009....
That's how I feel a lot of the time, but I have to walk with papajack, and usually feel better after doing so.  Probably, you would too after making yourself get up and walk.
  • uniquely-ironic said on May 12, 2009....
CBL - you're probably right, but tonight I'm trading walking for doing laundry.  Perhaps even a small walk to pick up some dinner later.
  • fromtheheart said on May 12, 2009....

Many times we all have the time for the world.. meaning to finish the deadlines for our bosses, bringing the kids at school, listening to friends agony etc… but when it is time for ourselves we can’t even find time… walking for instance – it is a form of exercise- we should at least walk 10,000 steps a day to stay healthy.

There are times that I want to exercise but too lazy to do so – I switch on the radio with Black Eyed Peas’ “MY HUMPS” and turn on the TV, tuning in “F” channel – where you will find the sexiest model in the planet!!! Then Boom – it motivates me to exercise to achieve the body that they have!!!

  • uniquely-ironic said on May 12, 2009....
fromtheheart - generally looking at curvy celebrities and models makes me want to crawl under the covers and hide my big curves.
  • RollingC said on May 12, 2009....
Hey, what's wrong with big curves?  As long as the person inside is worth it and shows it then that's what really counts.  OK.....OK...it doesn't hurt to have nice curves but that ain't all that's important in a woman.
    :^)
    Rc
ps....oh and how long does it take to walk 10,000 steps ?
  • fromtheheart said on May 12, 2009....
uni - yah rolling is right.. having big curves isn't matter... it wouldn't define you as a person.. We exercise just to be and feel healthy...

Rolling- i read it from somewhere that at least we should make 10,000 steps but walking to open the door is counted... :)
  • gurlrox said on May 13, 2009....
    Just DO IT..

take a deep breathe, and get going..

the first step is always the hardest, but think about it, for a change, how you would feel when you really get up and go for that walk.. YOU MAY SURPRISE YOURSELF..

    GOOD LUCK..

Get a out doors hobby, or a few. Most of my hobbies are related to the outdoors.
Works well, as long as you enjoy it.
  • abbonzai said on May 13, 2009....
Exercise or outdoor fun, it works ...
  • uniquely-ironic said on May 13, 2009....
RC - nothing wrong with big curves if you (the wearer of them) like them.  I prefer a little more moderation in my curves!  For me 10,000 steps can be accomplished by the time I go home from work if I walk to everyone instead of calling them.

from - yes I exersize to feel healthy, but I also do it to keep the curves reasonable as well.  Double bonus!

gurl - LOL  I wish my mind worked that way.

    scipio - LMAO me too!

Voltaire - that works on the weekends, but I have yet to find an evening hobby that's doable during the week.  Weekends I spend major amounts of time outdoors hiking, etc.

abbonzai - I'm trying to follow that thought, but I'm lost.

What about the Limes an Coronas? Kick back a few, give some friends a call, invite some people from Soulcast, dance, and let those bones start wiggling.
    He he... wiggling bones.

  • uniquely-ironic said on May 13, 2009....
WOS - now THAT I can do!!! LOL  I suppose that could pass for exersize.
  • speaking_up said on May 16, 2009....
you could fold laundry a little differently tonight to break the monotony.

    Sigh.

I'm still trying to get out of bed to go to work...should I go?  I wrote a post today (another long boring one) it is killing me to go to this asinine job.

    And, I want your boss.

I understand completely the lack of enthusiasm or motivation to do anything.  And no matter how many times people say, "just do it" ... I just don't.
  • uniquely-ironic said on May 16, 2009....
speaking - I think a big part of the apathy is lack of someone to do things with.  I am trying to build a circle of non-romantic friends so that I can trick myself into getting out of the house and moving around more.
  • speaking_up said on May 16, 2009....
Yes, one of the reasons I took this job was because it 'forced me' to go out every day.  It was really good for me.  Now, if I could also find a circle of friends with mutual interests, it would force me to go out in the evening.  I did form a spirituality group online...check out, Meetup.com and over 30 people joined.  We had about 8 or 9 meetings, but the people were pretty bizarre and I ended up folding this little hobbie.

It's finding people with mutual interests, that is missing.  I moved to this new community and it isn't easy meeting new people.

    Good luck!

PS, after my above post I went to the job and quit.  It feels great!
