Not long ago, just about everyone in America thought it was the greatest country in the world. I was one of those people. I still think, for the most part, it is the greatest country there ever has been, but I do think, in some ways, America is not much better than anywhere else. I heard a guy on the Michael Medved show saying that America has been so great financially because it has had freedom of religion. As we all know, freedom of religion is under attack. It is hard to have freedom of religion when a preacher cannot tell his congregation why his religion is right and everyone else's religion is wrong. That, of course, is actually freedom of speech. Churches should be free to act according to their beliefs without government interference, but we also know that is not happening these days. The government, especially Democrats and more specifically liberals, want to tell churches what they can and cannot do. They cannot preach that homosexuality is a sin (that would be hate speech) and they cannot refuse to marry homosexuals even though they believe it to be wrong and sinful. Hollywood is another segment of America that is no longer helping to make this a great country. In the early part of the 20th century, Hollywood helped America to win two world wars. By the 60s, Hollywood pretty much turned against America as far as supporting America's war efforts and also began to villianize the military. I figure that probably coincided with the takeover of Hollywood by Arab oil money. I must admit, it surprises me any time I see some TV show, like NCIS, that deals with Arab terrorists. How do they get that by the people with all the money? Possibly, there is another answer. I heard Brett Butler mention on a celebrity roast that she remembered when Hollywood was run by straight Jews. That could explain a lot. I preferred Hollywood when it was run by straight Jews. They had class and depicted an ideal America, if not a totally realistic one. The news media is no longer on America's side either. They report anything that pushes the liberal agenda, and you rarely hear anything that contradicts that agenda. How often do you hear anything about all the scientists who think Al Gwhore is a duffus in the mainstream media? You rarely hear any of the scandal that surrounds most Democrats in congress, but you hear the least bit of gossip about anyone who is a Republician. Idiots, like so called newscasters on CNBC and MSNBC, spin any and everything to try to discredit Republicans and lick the boots of BHO, Pelosi, Reid, etc. It is more than disgusting and beyond comprehension. And the media is too quick to slander our military and much too prepared to take the side of slimeball terrorists. This whole torture debate is sickening, that thousands of innocent American souls watch as the media comes to the defense of these rabid dogs. I might care if we had started all this and we were the ones cutting people's heads off on public TV. I do not include conservative talk radio in that group. They seem to be the only voice of reason in the media other than maybe FOX news. I was listening to some lady on the radio tonight while I was out picking up dinner. She was talking about the blatant lies Nancy Pelosi was spouting lately, probably her not knowing about the interrogation techniques that were being used to get information from the vermin at Gitmo or something. The medical profession is letting America down as well. How can people, doctors, who pledge to save lives and help people take the lives of the most innocent among us? How can any doctor perform an abortion and still call him/herself a doctor when butcher would be a much better name? It is like someone spraying gasoline on their corn field and calling themselves a farmer. Or like someone who supports the Democrat party calling themselves a Christian. The most damage to our country is probably being done by politicians. There are a few Republicans left who try to do the right things, but it is getting harder and harder for them with the media and Hollywood spreading their propaganda constantly. Everyone who opposes the liberal agenda is lampooned on TV, in movies, and in the media unmercilessly. Just ask Sarah Palin or Miss California. Democrats enjoy the full support of the media and are rarely called on what they say and do. The failure of all politicians to deal with some of the pressing issues of our times, like illegal immigration and the advancement of Islam in America, will most likely be the end of our great nation status. Soon enough Ameria will be a Spanish-speaking Muslim nation with no freedom of religion, the press, or speech. For now, I still think America is the greatest nation in the world, but that is not saying much considering what is happening around the world.

Those we now call liberals are actually totalitarian socialists and those we call conservatives are actually liberals. So yes, I suppose I agree. And, yes, there is a lot of religious fallacy, like Mormonism, Islam, Hinduism, etc., but there is a God and He laughs at people like you. People who put their trust in the wisdom of Man, have no faith in Him, and do not know their ass from a hole in the ground. And remember, there is only limited freedom of speech here.

Trav -- Unfortunately, Freedom of Speech protects people from irresponsible misspellings as well... IT'S SPEECH! And also, liberals did not 'institute' the FIRST AMENDMENT of the Constitution. Burning bras in the 60's wasn't want this country was founded on... But, if you want to go that route (and I swear that ALIENated posts this stuff so you'll provide him with cheap entertainment), conservatives were the ones who 'instituted' (by your definition) personal responsibility... Like shouting "FIRE!" in a crowded theatre.
Trav, do you think it's wrong for over 3,000 Americans to have died on 9/11? How about 600 million children in Asia going to bed hungry? Is it wrong, even though it doesn't happen in your back yard?

I once thought that too (America always will be the greatest country in the world), but I am not so sure any more. I thought the last election was pretty clear, even if we had bad (McCain) and horrible (Borax). The open bigotry (anti-white) was amazing. People like Oprah and Colon Powell voting for race over substance. We have possibly reached the point of no return to sanity. Blacks have taken over the government of most big cities and we have seen what happens there because whites then flee the area, taking their money with them. The same may soon happen to America because each party now thinks they have to offer up a black or a woman to win. How long before they decide that they have to have a homo candidate to win? Not long, I would predict. A better statement might be America still could be the greatest country in the world, but I think we both know the answer to that. We are headed full speed ahead into that period of time that Revelations talks about -- the end times
