It was as though the walk to the edge of the cliff had taken place years ago. He felt he had been standing here from the very beginning. Waiting for the moment when he knew with absolute clarity that it was time. Time to jump. Time to fall. Time to close the cover on the poorly written tragedy his life had become. For a moment he caught her scent on the wind and was brought out of his trance. He looked around and realised almost immediatly that he had been fooled again. He stood alone. A feeling he had been told would become easier to accept. He had been told alot of things by alot of people. People who didnt know her like he did. People who had not spent the last twenty years waking up by her side.
He had truly been born with the sole purpose of loving her. He knew that from the moment they met. Her essence had crept under his skin during the first kiss. His heart could fool his senses into believing her intoxicating aroma was gently lapping at his nostrils even after she had been buried.
He looked out across the night and took a sudden and deep intake of breath. The night was darker than usual and the moon seemed to have dimmed in anticipation of his final act. The world would continue unaware of his life, his love or his loss. The sun would rise once this was over and he would not have to endure the ach he felt every minute of every day.
The wind stopped and his eyes closed as he fell forward with a clarity of thought and joy in his heart he hadnt felt for years. He smiled as he fell, his mind and body finnaly free of pain and the breath of sadness.
