In a foul mood today.  I'd likely stomp that little Robin if I saw it today.  Good thing it's scarce.

My roommates are in the habit of putting my mail wedged between the knob and door jam of my door.  I get my mail when I leave my room for some reason.  Last night I was tucked into bed and didn't get the mail until about 11 pm.

I wish I hadn't gotten it until morning.  There was a letter from the DMV informing me that my driver's license is going to be suspended unless I'm able to take care of a couple of tickets that I thought I had already taken care of.  WTF!!!

When I registered my car last fall the lady at the DMV told me that there was a ticket on my record.  She said I could pay for it there that day so I did.  Now it appears that since I didn't take the paid registration to the CHP office and have them sign off on it that it was sent to some sort of courts collections service.  What started off as a $10 fix it ticket has matured into $554 screw me out of money because the system is so impossibly undecipherable that not even a rocket scientist could figure it out fee.

The other ticket, due at court now, is a mere $283.  Easy peesy!  Now, all I need to do is sell a kidney and pawn my jewelry to perhaps get a chunk of it.  At least enough to keep my license.

Oh, and car registration is due too.

The logic of this makes me so mad.  They revoke your license so you can't drive.  You can't go to work if you can't drive. (I don't think bus service is the answer here)  I can't make the money I need to pay the tickets so that I can keep my license.

I'm even madder at the turd at the DMV who didn't bother to tell me that despite paying off the ticket that I needed to go kiss some cop's ass to make sure it went away.

Don't the cops have better things to do than picking on a single mom with a tiny income?  Shouldn't they be busting pimps, drug dealers and murderers?  Where are their priorities?!!

uni! wtf! i can't believe this. omg. i am so angry for you. are you able to ask for an extension on the ticket due in court???? and about the other ridiculous issue..can you petition a judge with proof that you already paid?
  • uniquely-ironic said on May 05, 2009....
quietone - I've just spent about an hour on the phone.  I'm only vaguely clear about who gets paid and who I need to hunt down.  I also applied for a loan against my 401K in the dim hopes that I can just show up with money and keep my license.

frags - I don't know about any of it.  The man I talked to this morning didn't seem all that helpful.  I'm hoping that when I do go down to the DMV to pay the one ticket that I can find someone who 1)speaks english and 2)really wants to help me clear this up.  The ticket that's in the courts I can't even think about now.
  • fragglesrock said on May 05, 2009....
i'm so sorry, i know it doesn't help but i my heart goes out to you.  i know how tight it must be right now with you just getting back from your trip :(  it seems so often that you get one step ahead and then something comes along and knocks/drags you right back down.
  • alabamagirl said on May 05, 2009....
Why would the cops want to bust the murderers, pimps and drug dealers, when people like us are such easier targets?  The cops might actually have to put forth effort into catching the others!  Don't get me wrong, I don't feel that way about all cops in all areas.  I've moved around and encountered cops who were on top of their game and were impressive and then I've lived in an area where I got a seat belt ticket while half a block away drug dealers were on the corner selling crack.  Good Luck getting this straight.
  • uniquely-ironic said on May 05, 2009....
frags - I honestly was expecting some backlash for having the nerve to enjoy myself, but I never dreamed it would be so massive to my finances.
  • uniquely-ironic said on May 05, 2009....
alabamagirl - I'm not normally a cop hater, though liking them is out of the question.  I just don't get why or how they justify making such a big deal out of a registration ticket that WAS taken care of.

unique- God, you have trouble with your state and the DMV. I'm really starting to like my state. No trouble with them and if I get a ticket I pay usually by mail and its over forever.

My wife's brother tells us of problems there too.

BTV - To say I hate the DMV is like saying the heart surgery is a little boo boo. lol  Our state is f*&^% up beyond recognition with this many and undecipherable traffic laws.  I think we need to find out who's in charge and fire their ass.

CM - well, as long as you feel better.

Trust me, you don't want to talk to me about drivers license woes. I have many !
I bought an antique truck in Portland,Oregon a few years ago.
I got a parking ticket for the truck. It was for over $ 200.00. I didn't even own the truck at the time, I hadn't even laid my eyes on it yet !

i'm still driving on a suspended license because though i paid the fine....in CO.....they did not inform me that i needed to have 5 different forms filled out.....all of which need to go through CO ....to get my WA license.....the only way i can do this now is to hire a lawyer to get the forms, to spend a few days there when i fly the kids in......or to do it through the mail which is a huge huge hassle.

all of these options are extremely expensive.  some more than others. *sigh*
  • uniquely-ironic said on May 05, 2009....

Uni ~ can't you explain the situation to the cops? let them know you were not informed and out of the country?? like how the fuck does that work, hee you pay the damned fine and they take it off the damn system.......  cunts!
  • uniquely-ironic said on May 05, 2009....
Lu - Ha! explain to the cops .... [mutters toxic words].  My best shot is to find a way to pay the fees and see if there's an appeal process in hopes of getting any of the fees reduced and refunded.  If I lose my license my insurance goes way up and I only have about 3 weeks to straighten this out.  Not nearly enough time to go to court, that's assuming I even have the money to pay fees of any sort.
  • CayenneMan said on May 05, 2009....

@cmn you really are weird dude
  • uniquely-ironic said on May 05, 2009....
Lu - I can take in the paid registration, but since this has been kicked to the courts and back to the DMV I'm not sure they can reduce the fees without my having to go to court and hope for a non-sadistic judge.  And of course now my registration is due again! (talk about crappy timing)
  • Lucytorial said on May 05, 2009....
well looks like the twin theme is kicking in, I got me a 320 electric bill (due last week) a 240 phone bill due last week and my car rego due in two weeks worth 280....just under a grand is so lovely considering I have zero funds available.... lets play happy hunters?
  • uniquely-ironic said on May 05, 2009....

CW - I talked to a friend last night who thought they might, but I won't know for sure until I go down there.  It sure would be nice to think I could make payments rather than having to suck it up and hope nothing else goes wonky this month.
  • Hegemone said on May 05, 2009....
That's bullshit Uni.  Leave it to the cops to ignore the difficult tasks and go for the easy prey.  I hope you find a way to get out of this that doesn't absolutely screw you.  I'd be pissed for sure if I was in your position.
  • uniquely-ironic said on May 05, 2009....
Hege - I'm just coming around to pissed actually.  Up to know I've been a little scared of losing my license.  I mean, how would I be able to take my daughter for the weekends if I can't drive her back?

I'm not sure how it will work out.  I guess I'll deal with it whichever way it goes, though I'm trying to steer it in the least intrusive and expensive direction.

  • princessbitch65 said on May 05, 2009....
Wow, uni, sorry to hear about this. I watched this show called "Parking Wars"  once and I personally think that the DMV's goal in life is to fuck you over. Some of those people had to pay outragous fees just to get their cars or licenses back. Ridiculous!
  • uniquely-ironic said on May 05, 2009....
princess - The DMV really is just a profitable fund raiser for each state.  The fees they charge are absolutely unreasonable.  If you want to teach someone a lesson fine, but putting them on the brink financially is sadistic.
  • mOOn_platOOn said on May 05, 2009....

    O

Hell, the DMV is just an iceberg off the tip of the Antarctic automobile industry. For over 100 years we've been trained and processed on the wheels of the highway culture, we're slaves to the idea of car ownership and yet the true owners of all cars are the states. Imposed fees result in possession of "your" vehicle. It's kind of like serfdom in the early days. And your car is certain to generate taxes (tickets) and jobs (auto repair, insurance, construction, etc.) while you maintain it as it deteriorates in value. Who benefits?

Our oil-rich enemies. And our industrial captains.

    Happy motoring.

    O

  • uniquely-ironic said on May 05, 2009....
moon -  I see what you're saying and I don't disagree.  However, I'm not sure how to make being car-less work in a community with poor mass transit.
  • CayenneMan said on May 05, 2009....
Sorry about fucking with your head earlier, I had been drinking all day. I feel bad, in fact I feel hung over :o( ,  I regret the error, I won't let it happen again. I hate brandy . . . yuk ! If only I could take back time. Please except my apology, I need a clear conscience before I leave. I read some of the things I wrote earlier and freaked my own self out :o)  Have a great night and good luck getting this mess straightened out with DMV.    Now where did I put that ice pack . . .
  • uniquely-ironic said on May 05, 2009....
CM - sadly, I'm a little bit glad you're hung over :)  Sorry, that's not nice, but you did have me a little bit freaked the way you were stringing random thoughts together.
  • CayenneMan said on May 05, 2009....
I can be a real piece of work sometimes, I don't like to drink, especially not brandy.
As I laid awake in bed the room began to spin. I thought I was going to be sick. Thankfully I made it through. I like to drink wine with dinner but for some reason brandy gets me drunk quick. At first it tasted good but now just the thought of the smell makes me sick. I need to get some sleep, talk to you later. Have a great night.
  • RollingC said on May 06, 2009....
@ Moon -  Have you heard about the air car that someone has come up with?
And soon they want to upgrade it with a self-filling compressor that
as you drive fills up the pressure tank.  Novel idea.
@ Uni    -   The problem with government institutions is the damn beurocracy.
One hand (department) doesn't know (or care) what the other is doing.

    Rc
  • uniquely-ironic said on May 06, 2009....
RC - yes, that seems to be at least one of the problems.  The other being that the fees they charge don't really so much teach a driver a lesson (or deter their bad driving habits) so much as just really piss people off.
  • speaking_up said on May 06, 2009....
    *sigh*

Maybe if we didn't park or drive illegally.

Maybe if we paid for our indescretions immediately.

Maybe if we all took responsibility for our own bad (or simply negligent...negligent is still our bad) behavior.

Maybe...just maybe...things wouldn't blow out of proportion for us so much.

    Just food for thought...

But I would take it to court to see if you can rack up some more tax dollars, if I were you.  Cause then they would have to account for this now added cost by making sure other bad drivers are brought to justice for so-called minor infractions to pay for the court system clog up.

    Sorry, foul mood...
  • uniquely-ironic said on May 06, 2009....
speaking up - maybe someone thought they had paid it because a stupid DMV clerk said so.  Maybe it's not anything I would have known was not taken care of.

Oh, and I don't think you can blame this on a foul mood.

  • speaking_up said on May 06, 2009....
Who earned the ticket in the first place?  Why do you overlook this one little bitty part of the scenerio?

You also seem out of sorts because it was time for car registration.  And the problem with that is...????

Maybe we should all park and drive any ole way we choose, in any car we choose.
  • uniquely-ironic said on May 06, 2009....
speaking - I have never denied being wrong for the original ticket.  My complaint is that even despite efforts to take care of it I was blind sided.  Now, on another note, are you going to tell me you've never done anything while driving or parking that you deserved a ticket for?  I'm no saint, but letting the parking meter run dry hardly makes me a hazard on the road.

Yes, I'm in a "foul mood" too, so shut the fuck up and get the hell out of my blog!
  • speaking_up said on May 06, 2009....
