  hey *stoney*one~~ lol, my son was telling me about this episode, lol...
  here's another thing to chuck in the 420 pot...lol "pot" ( i slay me!)...
  
  i'm usually a rockin' chick...however...way ecclectic musically in lots of ways, and i love me some Billie Holiday...girl can sing some bluuuuuueesss..
  anyway 4/20/1939 she recorded one of her most well-known recordings, fairly controversial for the time....
  
  "strange fruit" was a song based on a poem, written by a black schoolteacher...the song is eerie, haunting, the words deceive you at first to thinking they will be about something beautiful, until you really give a listen...
  
  "southern trees bear a strange fruit
  blood on the leaves and
  blood on the root
  black bodies swinging
  in the southern breeze
  strange fruit hangin' from the poplar trees..."
  
  written of course, about all the horrible lynchings that were taking place during that time period...the things that this schoolteacher would see, just walking by the trees in his southern state...strange, terrible, sad fruit indeed...
