"I still believe in paradise. But now at least I know it's not some place you can look for, 'cause it's not where you go. It's how you feel for a moment in your life when you're a part of something, and if you find that moment... it lasts forever..."

this is the last line of the movie "the beach". the main character is leonardo dicaprio. it is a story about how they found paradise and the price to pay to keep it that way...

i recommend this movie to anyone out there who have nothing to do in saturday night. you know a kind of movie that if you really watch it you actually learn something profound.

growing up as a catholic, paradise is defined as the perfect place. a place where this no hunger, no sadness, no pain...

i remembered when i was young i asked my grandpa if they use the bathroom in paradise. he said you dont have to because you dont feel the pain of your tummy aching when you need to do the number 2.

it was planted to me that paradise was in heaven and where all your good relatives will be. that if we die we go to that heaven with jesus christ. with the angels flying and singing the  songs of joy...

this why my mother is so angry at me for not practicing my catholic faith. (i dont go to church anymore). she thinks i'll go to hell or something. she had used guilt telling me i'm a bad person for not going to church...

but as i grow up and understand more what religion is. especially the catholic religion. the more i realize what my paradise is...

isnt the main purpose of all religion? to go to their own version of paradise? this why some people will kill innocent people because they think they can go to paradise if they do this or that or whatever their leaders tell them to do... isnt this why christ died in the cross??? for our sins??? so that we could go to paradise???

hmmmm...

a lot of christians might raise their eyebrows now...lol...

no harm done...

i still believe in christ and what he did for us...

but this really keep me thinking...

what is paradise then?

if a lot of religions have different interpretation of paradise, what is the correct meaning of paradise then???

you know what i realize???

it really depends on you...

you could live your life in your paradise or choose to live in hell...

my version of paradise or pure heaven for some people would call it is when...

the first taste of any food that i like... the moment when you taste that wonderful feeling.. whatever it may be... ice cream, chocolate, french fries... whatever it is... savoring that first taste is my paradise...

the moment where you realize that you did more than what you expected... whatever it may be... like having the high score in an online game or doing something that your boss thought you'll never do or actually being in good in something when people think you suck doing it...

when i'm totally alone or when i'm with full of people and nobody notices me. it may be in a crowded public transportation and i'm alone with my thoughts. thinking and dreaming of the possibility of my life...

if a baby smiles at me or when my dog falls asleep when i scratch his tummy. something so innocent and pure.

where i see the wonder of nature like the mountain, the ocean, the trees, the flowers...

or when i say the words every night before i go to bed to a person i really care about... "good night, i love you."

and so many moments in my life that sometimes i take for granted...

that's my paradise...

it's not a grand event or anything ridiculous that society makes you think it is...

It's how you feel for a moment in your life when you're a part of something, and if you find that moment... it lasts forever...

that's paradise...

so what is your paradise???

my paradise is on a beach, surrounded by waves, sunshine, all my best friends and family, satellite radio that i can control with a snap of the fingers, yummy food that i can eat as much as i want and not gain a pound, my doggies (past & present) frolicking around us, a hammock that is more comfortable than any mattress ever made that i can nap in at any time...oh yeah, and a door with a little mail slot on it ;)

Did you're grandpa really tell you there's no tummy aching pain when you need to do the number 2 in paradise ?   :o)  Ha ha ha !  Ha ha I knew it  !  I knew it ! I had a feeling ! :o)  So I guess it is true !

I don't think you can achieve paradise with out offering some of your own. My paradise can't be seen, it can only be felt. It's love.

Queenie, I think you're really on to something here, way to think!  I agree though, you make your own paradise, the hard part is realizing that and then remembering it and acting accordingly.  I mean how would people feel if THIS is our chance at paradise and we reap what we sow when our physical body expires.  We work so hard towards "what's next" or "where are we going" that we don't stop to realize what's with us NOW.  Anyway, still need more caffeine before I get too philosophical, so, that said, here's a few parts of my paradise:

Every animal I've ever laid eyes on, or that I could lay eyes on.  They bring me peace, love, hope and humor.

The taste of any food on my tongue, for even if it isn't the most delicious, it is something for my belly, and there are many others who don't get that.  I won't be ungrateful.

Any time spent with my horse, she is in a category of her own, she's saved me from myself a few times I think.  I have to be responsible and think of her too, I can't make big rash decisions like telling my in law's to find a hole and dive in.

Rain, because rain means things will slow down for a little while, not as much can be done outside, we can relax and prepare for the insane rush that will come AFTER it, but at least we've gotten a break from the one that was going on BEFORE it.

I think paradise is in the bits and pieces around us.  When I'm hugging my kids, that's paradise, hanging out with Lu was paradise, having a great meal is paradise and sharing a kiss is paradise.

I don't think there is a place, but rather a state of being.
  • queenparanoia said on May 01, 2009....
hegemone: this is why i'm doing things that makes me happy. it may not be easy but i know it's my own paradise. i think youre paradise is nice too... ;-)

    uniquely: i totally agree... ;-)

    Great post queen!....

Mhmmmm.... my own personal paradise has everything to do with love. Love of music, love of family and friends, love of my pup, love of my S/O, love of writing, reading, learning, breathing.... just being truly happy. Long as I have those, I'm already in paradise : )

Its definitely a moment when we are truly living it, second by second fully aware and fully awake.  Agape...

There are times when it hits me that my paradise is my state of mind, body and spirit all working together to remember a moment, create one, share or give one.

This is where alot of religions help a lot of people, that state of living each moment in awe of the beauty of the world and ourselves in it.  Nice post Queenie.
  • gingersoul said on May 01, 2009....
Queenie.....oh, heaven is only a state of mind.....the bliss of knowing that you are where you are supposed to be and with the people you are supposed to be with..

Its the bearable light of being...its the smile that grows on your lips without even being registered by your brain...and yet....its there...you feel it and people around you sees it..

Paradise is you at your best, with all the right coordinates on your map, you centered in the middle of the universe....

    Happy Paradise, Queenie...:-)

My paradise will be a never ending peace and being reunited with lost loved ones.

In my daily life it more and more time spent with my knitting looms.  I've really loving creating with yarn.  I suppose that's more of a simple pleasure than a paradise though.

My paradise is going to that other side when we leave this side and seeing Jesus and my mother that died when i was a little girl and hopefully other loved ones.

Of course I didn't raise my hand if they are leaving right away.

This was just a wonderful read =)
It made me just stop and think, what are my moments of paradise? and, it made me appreciate it all.

Some of my moments of paradise are when I see people I deeply care about for the first time in a while. Or even a few days.

When I go outside in the summer at like 3 in the morning, and everything is quiet and peaceful, and anything that makes a noise you can hear.. and looking up into the beautiful stars and the moon.

In winter when the snow is perfect, and looking outside at night when it's so clear, and the moon is shining, and makes the snow sparkle.

Telling the few that I'm truly devoted to, that I love them, and know that it's completely true.

Just one more, when I'm around the person that I'm most comfortable with, and how we can just sit, and be completely content with just the presence of us, and sit there in silence, but the good kind of silence.

Thank you for this post. =)
