Who's reading chickencat (6):
I've always wondered how screen names come to be. Is it something a person always uses, is it for this particular site? Is it a nickname given when young? I'll start with mine.

Chickencat. When I a little girl..we're talking 30 years ago, I was so skinny. My mom would buy lean pants and still have to take the waist in. So my grandfather started calling me chickenbone. Actually, I think this started even before the age of 5. All I know is...I don't think my grandfather even knows my real name..lol. I visited him in the hospital a couple of years back and someone called him. He tells the person on the phone..'oh, I'm doing okay, yah, chickenbone's with me now."  and cat..well, I've always used a variation of catshadow, but wanted to mix things up. so what better way to do it than blend the two?

Well that makes sense where your name came from.  I always thought it was pretty unique.  Mine stemmed from reading a series of books by Orson Scott Card, Ender's series.  I was infatuated with the idea of what two of the characters did (young children, assumed online identities and wrote scholarly articles, etc. and one used the name of Demosthenes).  I wanted to use the screen name, as I was striking out on a new adventure with finding a blogging site after a year long stint without blogging, due to an unfortunate Myspace incident.  Demosthenes was taken, so I began researching other greek or similar mythological names and found Hegemone, and liked her description, I felt a sort of kinship with it.  So here I am!  Also, the perks are that its along the lines of what I like(d), and nobody else anywhere can associate this name with me.  I have other screen names that others know I use some variation of every time ... this one is a total mystery.

this was suggested to me by Sir, and i've since started using it on other sites too. it's also engraved on a bracelet given to me from him that i wear all the time.

it's very comforting, like even through the screen i'm being protected by him.

(i know that won't be to everybody's taste)

other sceen names that i've used tend to be lyrics or abstract phrases that refer to a thought or feeling that i have at the time. they can either have as much thought put into them to go so far as to translate or look up words, and so little as what song is playing on shuffle whenever i'm signing up to the site.
I.e. waitingforyou- (referring to one of Walt Whitman's poems- the last verse 'Failing to find me at first, keep encouraged, missing me one place, search another. i stop somewhere, waiting for you.'

    lovely idea for a post.

hege, i've never met anyone else who's read any of that series. i only got to read ender's game because it was all i could find. wish i could read the whole series.

Truly epic......
I have two friends who have funny names, and I was wondering if any of you know anyone with one as well.
Remember, real ones not made up.

My first is Rob Graves, and believe it or not, he has a cousin called Doug Graves.
My second...
