Subang Jaya began its development in the mid 70's and by 1988, the oil palm
plantation that once occupied the 6 square kilometres was turned into a
residential hub. Since then, the popularity of this residential area has boomed
and its population has reached a massive 55 000 people. Due to the high demand
for property in the area, the developers of Subang Jaya have expanded the area
and added USJ into the picture. The second phase provides an extra 10 square
kilometres of developments to accommodate the growing population.
The popularity of Subang Jaya stems from its convenience and its strategic
location. It has access to an entire network of highways that connects the
residents and visitors to all the surrounding areas such as Shah Alam, Kelana
Jaya, Bandar Sunway, Puchong, Kuala Lumpur , Petaling Jaya and many more. The
Federal Highway , New Klang Valley Expressway (NKVE), Damansara-Puchong
Expressway (LDP), New Pantai Expressway (NPE), KESAS Highway and Ekspress
Lingkaran Timur Tengah (ELITE) are all very well connected to one another and
easily accessible from Subang Jaya. The shortfall of being in the middle of
this network of highways is the traffic congestion cause by motorists that are
passing through.
Nevertheless, Subang Jaya remains a hot spot because of the many facilities
and activities that are offered around the area. Subang Parade is one of the
oldest shopping malls in the country but it still manages to maintain the
continuous patronage of its clientele. With 170 dining and retail outlets, it
works hard to fulfil its motto of providing “Never Ending Excitement”. Next to
Subang Parade is one of the country's first hypermarkets, Carrefour and a local
hypermarket, Giant, can be found in the USJ area.
With all its conveniences and its massive population, Subang Jaya slowly
became a centre for higher education as well. Many of the large universities
are located within the SS15 area of Subang Jaya. Taylors College , Inti College
(Subang Campus) and Metropolitan Colleges are all within a stone's throw away
from each other. The community is also furnished with a number of primary and
secondary schools, a private hospital (Subang Jaya Medical Centre), many places
of worship, vibrant entertainment spots and well equipped business areas.
Despite being congested and somewhat overpopulated, Subang
Jaya still attracts many locals because of its potpourri of activities.
Meanwhile, the municipal council, Majlis Perbandaran Subang Jaya (MPSJ), is
working hard to curb the traffic congestion that plagues the community of
Subang Jaya.
