The car drifted laterally, hot lights, laughter, and steaming breath fogging up the already iced over and snow blessed windows. Pale blushing faces stuck out from the snowy sky and shivered as tiny ice stars burst and collapsed upon their frozen skin. They had all the time they wanted now, all the choices they could ever ask for. They realized it together and all crystal eyes linked and danced with common intent. Tonight would be new. They could take what they wanted, they could be where they belonged, they just had to grab it with outstretched hands. These fresh thoughts rushed through their minds and mirrored themselves on eager faces, lighting up each countenance with earnest youthful desire. Tongues inched out of mouths and exploded with laughter upon the truthful taste of the winter night.
A loud shriek of struggling tires and the crunching of packed snow. Metal hits pavement. The noise renders the world apart, cutting easily between its shaky union. Red light staring, staring, all its does is stare at the twisted figures below. Metallic bodies crumbled over each other, dented, torn, disfigured beneath the simply staring red light. The faces are no longer lit up, drained of desire and initiative, those still functioning seeking hope and explanation. Flesh weaker than expected, breaths shallower than they’ve ever been, pulse fading into silence.
And that red light just staring, staring, at the blood-stained snow.
