In my country there has been a awful lot of chatter about downloads etc.
There is now a law that prohibits all downloading.

While they are after the "small" down loaders that only use to download in the weekend for that "special" song or movie. Their focus seemingly is this kind of person, since the "big guys" know how to protect themselves.

The big companies claim to loose millions in income because of this downloading thing.
However it seems they sell more then ever.

Further more they had their chance to offer "legal" downloads at some sites, which they said something along the lines that "there is no future in (legal) downloads".
Well right we see that now don't we?

Now that they see what potential it has, they want seemingly to shut it down, all downloading that they consider "illegal". As they find new ways to track down loaders the down loaders find new ways to protect themselves.. Job opportunity's anyone?

I think the companies are fighting a loosing battle, and they don't realize it?
Down loaders are a very inventive group of people, some very skilled at programming and other computer skills.

Good Luck,
Voltaire

I don't even know how to download.

What I do know is when the kids used to download music, it messed up our computer so we had to stop it.

My wife downloads music and pays for it.

That's everything I know about downloading.

    Beyond,
    Mmm, I hear you.

My post was more directed towards those who do not pay.
Those who pay are legal, as far as I know.

A couple of years back my father did download a bit to, however he to had to give up because of it messed with his 'puter. Bet it is better now.

Voltaire...i use piratebay.org and utorrent or emule to download movies and songs FREE!!....i love it...

I really don't have any bad feeling in doing it...i know its illegal and i think that it should not....
I like the idea behind this illegal movement....:-)

People already pay way too much for the pretty packages and the advertisements...i don't want to pay for the cute ribbons, just give me the product..but this is impossible..so i just find a way to untie the ribbon ...lol.

I know that piratebay.org is under trial in Sweden..i think is there where you live, i am guessing right?......;-p

In my country too, Italy, there is a vast movement of illegals that is growing each day...

    GingerSoul,
I to have used them, but had to stop as law changed.
I am not really so aware about computers etc.

I am not interested in the ribbons either, it's the product as you say.

Yes, your right, Sweden it is last time I checked. ;)
I do recall mentioning it earlier actually. ;P

Here they are to "flat" to do anything. One of the lamest people I have ever witnessed. No revolutions since the 1500's! OMG! lol

I have too many other things to do on my computer than download music or movies.  I have a TV and stereo - as old fashioned as that may be.  I just don't have the time for it.  Some people download mountains of stuff and I do not understand when they get the time to watch it or listen to it all.  Unless that is all they do with their lives there is no way we can listen to thousand of songs.  You would have to be playing music day and night, every minute and you would never hear them all.  How would you even know that many different songs?  Well, may be you could, but even the most enthusiastic music lover needs a break or a sleep once in a while.

I download some freeware or open-source software now and then and I hardly ever use it all.  People must just be downloading all that crap so they can say to their friends "I have three billion songs on my hard drive!!!  Isn't that great?!!"

What a bunch of idiots!!!!   Besides.... with so much pornography on my hard drive where would I put all those dumb songs and movies?  There's not enough room.    NO THANKS!!

    Opie,
I got your point, I to have radio and TV; nothing old fashioned with that.
I listen to much music, because I wait 45 min for the bus and then another 15 min to get to the city. That's one hour every day I can listen to music.
You can go trough a lot of songs under one hour.

Besides.... with so much pornography on my hard drive where would I put all those dumb songs and movies?  There's not enough room.    NO THANKS!!

Excellent point and question. You know if you have a family get two computers, one for porn and one for movies and music.

Oh come on now Volt - may I call you Volt?  It is kind of ELECTRIC don't you think?  hehe   VOLT!!!!     Watt....?    LOL

Where was I?  Oh yes....  how long is a song (average)?  About 3 - 4 minutes?  Let's say 3 minutes.  That is a maximum of 20 songs per hour if you listen to them all and without stopping.  Probably less than 20.... but let's settle on 20.

In a day of 8 hours leisure (not working)  plus idle time (bus, train etc) let's say 1 - 2 hours plus lunch hour..... that is 11 hours per day you could listen to music.  Of course that is doing nothing else like watching TV or a film, etc..

That is then 220 different songs per 11 hour day.  In one week that is roughly 1540 songs.   In a month - 6160.   In a year -  73920 songs.

Remember... that is almost 74,000 DIFFERENT songs.  No repeats.

Who do you know who would do that?  Never replaying old favourites.  Each song is played only once.   I presonally like to hear music I am familiar with and listen often to songs I really like.   I think I would be happy to aquire about 36 - 48 new songs PER YEAR!!!   That is plenty for me.  Who the hell needs 74,000 new songs per year????  NOBODY!!!!!!!

Oh and as to your idea about two computers.... we have about four computers and they are all full of porn, but thanks anyway Volt.

  • Voltaire said on Apr 27, 2009....
What ever pleases you Opie. Volt is ok.

I do like to listen to old classics to, I do not know anyone that needs that many new songs indeed.

I like to use radio, still even use webradio at times.
Youtube is a good source for music as a alternative, always plays what I like. ,:)

As for the computers...Dang! I think we here on SC should give you a USB (portable) flash drive for Christmas. ;-)

    And regarding the porn,
Must be in the family I guess? Wonder if it's hereditary?!! ,:-D

  • PieterOpie said on Apr 27, 2009....
Family?   Oh no, we are not related in that sense.

  • Voltaire said on Apr 28, 2009....
    My mistake.
  • PieterOpie said on Apr 28, 2009....
How could you possibly have known.   We outcasts have to make our own families.  You can choose your friends but you cannot choose your relatives.  You can choose what music you like too.....  and you can choose to download or not.  Never mind that it is illegal or immoral.  Don't worry if it is just like stealing.  Musicians are all rich, aren't they?  They would only spend the royalty cheques on cocaine, heroin and booze anyway.   In fact if you download and pirate music you might just save an addict's life.  It is our human obligation to do it....

Yessssssss..........  it all makes sense now..........
  • Voltaire said on Apr 29, 2009....
LOL! Now that is another point of view! ,:-)
Of course they are all rich, and use drugs, but you need to download a heck of lot of music to save their lives from the drugs.
  • PieterOpie said on Apr 29, 2009....
Yeah, true.  Frankly I don't really care what they shove up their nose.  As long as I don't have to pay for it,  who cares.  Besides, my favourite music is Beethoven and he doesn't take drugs....       anymore.....
  • Voltaire said on Apr 29, 2009....
No I don't bother either, isn't my nose.
I don't really want to pay for it either.

Oh classics eh? Beethoven was good indeed.
  • PieterOpie said on Apr 29, 2009....
If I am paying for drugs then those drug should be going up my nose!!!

Beethoven was not good.... he was the best.  In fact he was pure genius... brilliant.  In my view the greatest and most expressive composer ever.  He changed the world of music and freed himself and those who followed him from the old word of rules and restrictions.

He was also politically admirable and held strong view about the stupidity of the aristocrats of his time. He hated them and despised royalty.  He upset quite a few of them because he refused to let them talk down to him.  One day when he showed up at a nobleman's manor to conduct some music he was told to use the back entrance instead of the front door.  He said "If the front door is good enough for the Duke then it is good enough for me!" and he barged passed the servant and marched inside.  I love that about him.  He was arrogant with all the right people.   He will live forever!!!

However, I like most kinds of music......
