orange pylons

it's that time 
that time of year
when orange pylons
begin to appear

they first show up
on the edge of roads
but soon advance
make you drive slow

they guide your travels
create your paths
prevent you from going
where you want to be at

they block all your shortcuts
sneaky ways to get there quick
slow you down
and put you in the thick

if you want to go hither
you must first drive through yon
you end up driving in circles
without getting to where you belong

if there is a side street
that is part your plan
it will be soon blocked off
your destination will be banned

yes those orange pylons
are out there right now
funny how they are gone
when you see the snow plows

they call it construction
yet there are tearing up our roads
turning them in to rubble
like an old rocky roads

they call it progress
but you can't get anywhere
they call it road improvements
yet travelers must take care

once those pylons are in their place
a flagger comes a flagging
to stop you from proceeding
or slow you down to a snail's pace

yes,it's that time 
of the year
when odds are against you
getting from there to here

so be a team player
follow all the rules
remember road construction
is stimulus Obama gave to you
