Andrew Sullivan makes the salient points regarding abusive government surveillance and its intrusion on our liberties, privacy and freedoms.  Now that the Democrats are in power it seems the Republicans are suddenly interested in protecting these things.

Sullivan is a blogger who substantiates nothing he writes and lies with every word.  Why doesn't Sullivan mention the gang of 8 Congresspeople who oversaw all these programs.  These included Pelosi, Reid, and Feinstein.  People calling known terrorists or known terrorist locations, we determine this is a threat and suddenly we are in a surveillance state?  After Bush hired the 9/11 highjackers did he get Cheney to deliver a big wad of money in a Haliburton suitcase?

Have you been drinking or something?  I think you didn't actually read Sullivan's post.

"At several points in the last few years, as I gamely tried to convince conservatives that they should be concerned about the scale and scope of the Bush-Cheney surveillance state, the torture program, the claimed presidential right to seize, detain and torture anyone deemed an "enemy combatant", the avoidance of the FISA law, the suspension of habeas corpus, I was ridiculed as an hysteric."

This crap right here, Bush should hire a bunch of lawyers and sue everyone these people, he could be a billionare because of this is just lies and slander.

Just on the surface the Bush-Cheney surveillance state!  It was everyone, Congress was in on this and Sullivan just blowing right by that important fact shows he is a partisan nutcase who has zero credibility.

"It was everyone, Congress was in on this..."

No, it wasn't "everyone."  You don't get to blame Congress for Bush's mistakes.  Besides, it was a Republican controlled Congress for most of his two terms.  If you want to talk about lies we can talk about George W. Bush.  He lied straight-faced to the American public when he said "we don't torture."  He lied outright.

Now, the part I'm sure you're thrilled about is that Obama now has all those illegal powers that George W. put into place.  I'm sure that makes you feel real good.  I know it doesn't make me feel very happy.

The politicians will never do the right thing in this matter.  We are lucky to have people like Sullivan to keep feet of the people involved in torture and other illegal activities to the fire.

You and bloc and Sullivan argue from the perspective that Bush was some rogue President breaking the law when the gang of 8 which included your friends Pelosi and Reid were breifed about this numerous times.

President Obama doesn't have any illegal powers he has the same powers and I trust him to use them in accordance with our laws.  Believe it or not I'm more leary of terrorists who want to kill my children more than I am my President.

"If you want to talk about lies we can talk about George W. Bush.  He lied straight-faced to the American public when he said "we don't torture."  He lied outright."

He didn't lie or misrepresent or try to hide anything and if you believe he did and believe we tortured people then stop being a candyass and prove it.  You and bloc are full of accusing and quite short on actually backing up your statements.

Well, it's in the mainstream news even that we waterboarded KSM over 180 times.  It's also well documented that waterboarding is torture (like decent people need to be told that it is torture).  Ergo, president Bush lied.
  • stopmediabias said on May 06, 2009....
It wasn't 180 times and if we "tortured" someone 180 times do you think they would still be alive?  It was 180 pours of water.

How do you torture someone and not cause pain which those memos that you got the "180 times" from says?  Plus it is glaringly obvious Bush did everything in his power to not cross the line.  If it is a groups intent to torture someone do they have doctors and psychologists on standby to monitor the situation with the power to stop it any time?

You guys have lost this debate and you know it.  You and bloc are grasping at straws.  If we came even close to torturing someone Bush would have been impeached a long time ago.  He wasn't because the Dems knew and approved.
