So we thought going wireless in the house was a FanFuckingTabulous idea... right?? no wires yeh? cool?

NOT

So if I'm honest I'll say one thing, we did it on the cheap, we have our own router for the network and decided to get a wireless port to connect us, the two shold be talking BUT like most siblings they aren't! little fuckers....

So because they're not talking we lose our internet.... once aggain little fuckers...

We've bitten the bullet ad now there are blue cables lining the floor of the house until we can go and buy a proper wireless router modem... I'm personally going to take great pleasure in sending these two little fuckers to an orphanage in a box above the hot water system.

Sorry to miss all the fun, musn't have been much cause I only got two pm's (boo hooo no one likes me anymore) bwaa ha ha ha ha

Anyway I'm back, for now.  Who knows how long this will last,  may end up taking a knife to all these long blue wires.... then I'll be really in trouble.

Ohh yes, the rain really hasn't let up, the forecast is for more rain today and tomorrow, then its suppose to ease... I say SUPPOSE to with sarcasm here. I'm not without hope that a little sunshine will endeavour to ruin this almost perfectly sucky weather when Uni arrives.

((If you detect a little sarcasm you're spot on the money, if however you feel a screaching of nails on a blackboard You're DEAD right))

After you hooked in the wireless port and enabled the wireless card on your computer did you by chance shutdown your computer, reboot your modem so it will see the new card and then wait about 30 secs for the complete bootup and restart your computer?  If you didn't do this then you will know that normally things have to be restarted to be able to see the new hardware when it comes to modems switches and other items like this.  What type of router is it and what kind of port did you buy?  If you give me specs I can probably help you through this process fairly easy.

Cypho ~ We have a total of four computers, neither hubby or I do anyting with connecting them.  We pay an IT guy to do it, he got them talking to each other but as with most things they stopped.
The original router was used priorto wireless, we kept it and bought a wireless network system, set up, working great then poof! one day on the next day router and wireless thingy not talking? make sense?
  • beyondtheveil said on Apr 12, 2009....
lucy- Makes sense to me. We tried wireless and had an IT hook it up. It worked for a while, then caused nothing but problems. The IT's computers work perfectly of course, but they can't hook one up for us. We tried to get it to work three times.

    We no longer have wireless.

Beyond ~ We need it, the new house is too big for wires, my office is on one side of the house, hubbies the other, another computer is on the balcony or kitchen....

I think the only reason it isn't working is that we're trying to get two completely different boxes to talk to each other instead of buying the one wireless box to do both their jobs.... frustrating though, especially living in the middle of nowhere.

As much as I like other aspects of my home, I'm constantly frustrated with the stupid wireless router.  I suspect it's a settings issue, and would love to just pay someone to come in and unfuck it, but I think Jerry would be insulted.  Oh well, it's just for a few hours at night anyhow.

I hate our wireless router!  It keeps interfering with my main PC.  The one I use all the time.  Papajack swears by his wireless, but to me it is all kinds of problems.  He is always having to re-boot it up again, and now we are having to do that on the main one.  Hope yours keeps working!

Urgh, I hate when those little technological buggers decide not to get along.  What I wouldn't give to have wireless internet in this house though ... that's dreaming though, lol.  Hope those little blue wires don't drive you into a padded room or anything Lu!

    Lucy;
I have never had problems with wifi.  We have had it in my home and studio now for about six years, Last year we upgraded to a N-draft system for the four computer on the system.  One hard wire the rest on wireless.  The test was when my sons came home from college with friends all seven laptops hitting the wireless at the same time.  It work very well,  What type of WiFI is it a G or N?  The N is upto six times faster then the normal G ( 300 bps vs. 54 bps)   and has better range!  Check also to see if you have any older cordless phone!  Here in the USA wireless routers and some older cordless telephone work on 2.4 ghz. and the phone can cut the router out.  We did have that problem at first anytime anyone used one of these phone the wireless would go off line.  We fix it by get rid of the old wireless phone and only use DECT 6.0 in the studio and home. I will be off line for the rest of the week as I will be in a location with no internet up in the backwoods like no cell phone, no internet, no elec, or running water save for the river.  I am hoping for a wood fire and dreaming of being conected in a few days.

I have a cable bundle at home and had the I.T. guy come hook it up.  They actually did a pretty good (great) job of hooking and connecting everything up.
Like you, poof, the computers stopped connecting to the internet.  The tech support is also pretty good over the phone and they walked me through the basics...like disconnecting both router and modem...shut down computers and then starting things up again.
It usually works but don't understand why it happens sporadically as it appears the computers have a spat and lose the routing number or something like that.  Then you reboot and disconnect everything and after you connect back up it works like a charm.
    Technology is great isn't it?

i still like you! i still like you! :)  i hate technology sometimes (well, most times) too.  grrr. especially when it keeps me from communicating with my crazy pal that lives a gazillion miles away! ;-)
  • Lucytorial said on Apr 13, 2009....
well everyone, its just not fair... fare... its a bad state of affairs! LOL

If the rain would fuck off, the internet work and I get a little less back pain I'd be a happy camper.... as it is this internet thing is gonna drive us crazy for a few days...
