What is the significance of the North Korea missile launch this past weekend?
My opinion here is based on a question: What are they doing?
-In 2002 they restarted the Yongbyon reactor.
-In 2003 they withdrew from the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT).
-In 2006 they test fired a nuclear device.
-From as far back as 1998 to right up to the present they have test fired rockets.
-Their people are starving.
-They are in an energy crisis.
-Along with that in 2008 when George Bush got six party talks going North Korea shutdown the Yongbyon facility and destroyed its water tower, provided an account of their nuclear activities, and showed it was willing to come to the table.
-Later that year in September they restarted the facility and many experts believe they have the capability to make a nuclear weapon and has supplied the country of Libya with nuclear materials.
So the answer to the question here is they are playing chicken with nuclear weapons and acting crazy. I don't agree with going to war right now. But what President Obama is doing is showing his weakness. The UN is useless and all sanctions do it make the country even more poor than they all ready are. This has been proved time and time again under Presidents from both sides.
Our President needs to be speaking plainly and directly to North Korea. "You threaten, we destroy." It's that simple. These countries know after Iraq if we say something we are going to back it up. Then he needs to get Kim Jong Shortstuff on the phone tell him to get back to the six party talks or find a new place to live. President Obama doesn't need to have a "plllleeaase like us" attitude, he needs to have a "don't fuck with me" attitude.
