KBD guide of Runescape

Here is Thepowerlevel.
This guide will teach how to successfully kill a King Black Dragon (KBD) by yourself with ranged in Runescape. This guide does not describe how to fight it with magic or melee . If you are interested in using ranged, read on. In order to do this, you should follow the recommended inventory, equipment, and skills. I believe you will learn something from it.

Recommended Inventory
This section will describe the recommended inventory for fighting a KBD solo.

1 Teletab (any location of your choice; Varrock is best so you can immediately sell your drops)
1 Antifire Potion
1 Antipoison Potion (super antipoison recommended)
1 Super restore Potion
1 Prayer Potion (recommended but not necessary)
1 Games Necklace/Woodcutting Axe/Knife or Slash weapon (depending on the route you decided to take; explained below in Section V)
22-23 Food - Lobsters, monkfish, sharks (sharks recommended)

Recommended Equipment
These are the recommended items that should be worn. For each category, you should select one of the listed items. Any combination should be adequate.

Head: Armadyl Helm, Karil's Coif, Black/Blessed Coif, Archer Helm
Amulet: Fury, Glory
Cape: God Cape, Fire Cape, Skill Cape, Obsidian Cape, Cape of Legends
Body: Armadyl Chestplate, Karil's Leatherbody, Black/Blessed Body
Legs: Armadyl Plateskirt, Karil's Leatherskirt, Black/Blessed Chaps
Boots: Dragon Boots, Snakeskin Boots
Ring: Ring of Wealth (highly recommended), Ring of Recoil, Ring of Life
Shield: Anti-dragonfire Shield, Dragonfire Shield (Either of these is an absolute must)
Ammo: At least 100 Ruby(e) Bolts or better (Ruby(e) recommended) (bring more if you think you will stay for a long time)
Gloves: Black/Blessed Vambraces, Family Crest Quest Gauntlets, Rune/Dragon/Barrows Gloves

Important Note: The shield MUST be a dragonfire or anti-dragonfire shield. Without it, the KBD can easily hit above 30 multiple times and you will be dead within moments.

Recommended Skills
The following skills are recommended. Note, it may be possible to fight it with lower stats but it might be more difficult.
70+ Ranged
70+ Defense
37+ Prayer

Getting to the Lair
There are three ways to get to the KBD's Lair, as shown on the map. An explanation of each route is described below the map.

Edgeville Canoe Route: Shown in a Red box on the map, the edgeville canoe station can be used to travel to the Moss Giant pond in the wilderness. Go west towards the lava maze. The lair is on the western side. Note: You cannot go back with this method as there is no canoe station in the wilderness and a woodcutting axe is required to travel with a canoe.
Ardougne Lever Route: In western East Ardougne, behind the palace is a teleport lair which transports you to the Deserted Keep in the wilderness. From this point go east past the hellhounds, south through the gate, and go west towards the lava maze to get to the lair. Note: Using this method requires a knife or other sharp weapon with slash abilities.
Bounty Hunter/Clan Wars Teleport Route: Using a games necklace, teleport to Bounty Hunter or Clan Wars. From these points, make your way north into the Moss Giant area and travel west to towards the lava maze. Note: This method requires a games necklace.

Basic Route: The most basic route is simply to walk there. From the Grand Exchange in Varrock, proceed north towards Bounty Hunter. Continue past Bounty Hunter and make go west shortly after passing it. Make your way towards the lava maze, the lair is on the western side.

Important Note: As usual when traveling through the wilderness, there is always the constant threat of revenants. If you fear revenants but still want to fight the KBD, it is suggested that you either travel with a group of people, or you take the shortest route possible, which in this case, is the Edgeville Canoe Route.

Once you arrive to the fenced-in area on the western end of the Lava Maze, go through the gate. Beware as this area contains lesser demons. Go down the ladder and quickly pull the lever on the well in the next area. This area contains Poison Scorpions which will poison you, hence the reason for bringing the Antipoison potion. Pulling the lever will bring you to the lever where you must face the King Black Dragon...

Fighting the King black Dragon
As soon, or before, you enter the lair, drink one dose of antifire potion. This will temporarily reduce the damage done by the dragons fire which can be in the 15-18 range. If you are poisoned, drink one dose of antipoison potion so you do not lose any more health. During the fight, the KBD uses a multitude of different dragonfires:
Stat reduction - this is a white attack that will lower some of your stats. Drink a super restore potion dose when this happens.
Freeze - this is a blue attack that can sometimes freeze you, stopping your movement. This is not usually a problem since you will be ranging it.
Poison - this is a green attack that will sometimes poison you. When this happens, drink a dose of Super Anti-poison.
Normal - the normal fire breath is the usual orange color, the shield and potion should protect against most of the damage
Note: Normal dragons (not including metal) have a fire breath attack that can only attack from 1 spot. This is not true for the KBD. It's fire breath attack can hit you from a distance so take special care as soon as you enter because it will attack immediately if it isn't fighting anyone else.

When you enter and have made the necessary preparations, walk up to it and attack, but make sure you stay 3-4 spaces away. This is so that it cannot fight you with melee. It will not move towards you so you do not need to worry about melee if you attack from a distance. It will however, attack you as soon as you enter, assuming it is not fighting anyone at the moment.

If there is a team or a clan fighting the KBD, switch worlds. It is recommended that you go to a world where lootshare is NOT enabled. Most teams do not go here because they want to share their loot.

Once you begin attacking it there is nothing much to do other than heal yourself. When it poisons you, drink some anti-poison. When your health falls below either half of your hitpoints or below 30 hp, eat one piece of food. The KBD had 240 hitpoints. This may seem like a lot but it is not so if you are using Ruby (e) bolts. The ruby (e) bolts have a special that takes away 10% of your own health but takes away 20% of the enemies health. This is very useful because if you are lucky enough to have the special effect activate at the beginning when it has full hp, you will hit a 48. This is the reason why ruby (e) bolts are recommended for the KBD and other bosses as well.

If you see yourself getting hit hard by the dragonfire, try turning on Protect from Magic. It will not completely negate it but it will hit less on you. If at any moment you run out of food or are unsure about continuing, do not take a risk, immediately teleport out there. It's better to leave alive then to risk dying and losing hundreds of thousands of coins (depending on the equipment you chose to bring).

When you successfully kill it, take the drops. Using your own judgment, if you have enough food you can stay for another few more rounds. If you don't think you can continue, teleport out and sell your drops.

The Drops
If you have managed to kill the KBD, well done! It means now you can enjoy the spoils of your glorious victory...
