I lay savoring the closeness of my sleeping lady, she stirs, murmuring softly and for a moment I fear the angry sea, a scant mile away, will with its deafening roar, its incessant pounding of the innocent shore with heavy fists of foaming water, awaken her. BOOM…BOOM…BOOM, a seemingly endless assault, now joined by the rising wind, at first a gentle breeze, suddenly strident in its efforts to force the leaves to sing their rustling song. Then stronger still until the slender trunks are compelled to sway like erotic dancers in the failing night. Yes night is fading to gray as the sun prepares to assert its rightful place.

Rightful place? I fear I have in truth lost MY rightful place in this wonderfully innocent lady’s life! My conscience pounds my soul as relentlessly as the waves do yonder shore! SIGH!!…. For 25 years she has been my constant and faithful companion, she is totally devoted to me, this I know. I know just as surely that I do not deserve her or her trust, which she lavishes upon me so profusely.

Should I confess my error or remain silent? (Alas, even now I seek to minimize my treachery. Error indeed!) A Gordian knot, Brobdingnagian in proportion!  Whatever I do, things can never be the same between us. The burden of a secret, too difficult to bear and the consequences of revelation, unthinkable! Oh preposterous fool that I am, what have I done?!….
