I went for a drive. I look around my part of town, and I can't help but think, "Why?"
I live in the "not-so-desireable" part of town. Anyone that drives through here can understand why it's so undesireable. It's a slum. A ghetto. And what is being done about it?

Not a damn thing.

This town used to be a wonder in the 1970's from what my husband and his family say. It was an upper-middle class area, and people cared about their neighbors and neighborhood. They kept their property looking nice, and they looked out for one another.

Well now, in 2009, that has all changed. All of the homeowners are dead and gone, and the slum-lords are renting to the undesireables. People that don't care about their property. People selling crack, heroin, meth, cocaine, marijuana and all sorts of other drugs in front of school children, and sometimes even to the school children. I can drive about 3 or 4 miles up the road, and it's a better part of town. There are more resources to your disposal. The sad part is, most people on my side of town don't have access to transportation, and they have small children that they can't take with this across the busy roads to get there.

We have one grocery store on this side of town. It doesn't have much of a selection, and what sells is usually gone by the time you can get to the store. They said they don't have enough funding to make the store bigger and make it a "superstore" like the two other Kroger stores in town. But just a few months ago, they managed to renovate the store to put a liquor store inside of it.

What does that say to you?

To me, it says "let's keep the poor people dumb and drunk and give them access to drugs. They don't need the things that rich people need!"

It makes me angry that they can make alcohol and drugs more accessible for the impoverished, but they can't give them resources to better themselves! Even the employment resource offices and the GED courses are all the way on the other side of town! Why not give the people the access to healthcare, education and employment? Why not let them better themselves? I'm convinced the government is trying to kill off the poor slowly.

Everywhere you go you see prostitutes, drug dealers and addicts. Parents that abuse and neglect their children, and foster parents that aren't any better. They think if they keep the people dumb, they won't know the difference. These people need a voice. They need to stop having children they can't take care of and living on welfare. It's not fair! We have to give these people the resources to better themselves and their lives! The next generation is DOOMED if they don't help these people.

It makes me angry.
Sad.

Justice- Isn't there a transportation system set up?

  • JusticeForAll said on Apr 05, 2009....
There is, but it rarely stops by this part of town. And it's almost impossible to get a bus pass.

Well, that sounds like the first thing that needs to be fixed!

I know what you are talking about Justice. I have lived in Fort Worth, Texas my entire life and I have watched some of the nicest parts of town turn into ghettos over the years. The people keep getting ruder and  dumber. You can't even turn on the news anymore with out hearing about someone being either raped, robbed or killed anymore. Trust me, it is a widespread problem.

D&F- At least a few people here can understand my frustration. This country isn't getting any better. Pretty soon I'm gonna have to move to Canado or overseas! HAHA!
