August was my first complete month at Soulcast, I've just checked my adsense account and the total is $30.38.

Seems it's still quite difficult to make real money on this blogging lark. It's amazing that on one day I made over $6 alone, yet have been unable to do this again.

I'm now 6th most popular member here and still only managing $30 a month, so I think that gives a good picture of how hard it is to make some real cash here.

However, I shall keep plugging away to see how it goes, I hear that blogging improves cumlatively, so the longer you keep at it, the better it gets - as with all things I guess.

Anyway...just wondered how much other top members earned last month? To see if my earnings are a common pattern, so we can get a better understanding of it all.

    Only $7.32 I'm affraid.

However, I haven't been the most frequent of posters, so could probably have done better.

Again, am waiting for "Project Q"! Then we can all be site owners.

I bet the owners of soulcast are the only real winners here. Once we all have our own soulcast style sites, we'll be rolling in it! ;)

    Is gonna be da beef!
  • Alyss said on Sep 01, 2006....
I'm not actually registered for adsense so I haven't a clue.
  • mrhowto said on Sep 01, 2006....
    truthy - shhh...don't tell everyone lol :P

Alyss - probably for the best, I find it's sometimes difficult blogging for money, blogging purely for enjoyment can be a much more rewarding experience.

However, if you don't sign up for adsense, the guys at SC will be earning cash for clicks to ads on YOUR blogs. Just seems shame be losing out on cash that could be yours, even if it is just a few dollars.
  • ayinkurie said on Sep 01, 2006....
Congrats. For myself, almost 21 days, $7.17. And my highest for the day $1.18, which was yesterday. But I won't quit. I'm not giving up. I will keep on blogging.
  • mrhowto said on Sep 01, 2006....
ayinkurie - thanks for your input, yeah, keep at it!

This is my first real attempt at keeping up a blogging prescence and it's going ok I guess. I've been a web deveoper for some years now, and this blogging is a whole new ball game. I'm going to keep at it for at least another 6 months...if it is really really working by then, I'll be very happy.

I wonder how many others will still be around here then.

I've only been here about 7 weeks now, and have already seen a few popular members give up. I think blogging takes time though, so I'm going to give it the chance and see how things turn out.

    All the best.

well, I have a personnal blog and an adsense account, I think that 30 € in one month is very good, just with a blog. You should be happy. If i were you I would.

I've pretty much figured out you're not gonna make a ton of money here-

  • bridfair said on Sep 01, 2006....
I have made $.035 in the last week...how disappointing! But my ads are for the weirdest things, like traffic lights! Why would anyone want to click on that? I wrote about a traffic light 3 posts ago! Why is it still there? Can anyone advise me on this???

I have been credited with a buck and a half. I think I'll keep my dayjob for now. My blog is about fishing and kids, so it's not like I'm giving away useful information, just trying to entertain. As far as the ads go, anybody want to fish in canada or for walleyes? I got the info for those sports in my ads. I guess it's related to my blogging, but would like to see more clicks on them. What's the deal with the page views? We get paid for those also, right?
  • Tarakan said on Sep 01, 2006....
u won earn much from page views... it counts by the thousands.. lets say for example an advertiser will bid 0.50 for 1000 page views.. so in order to earn 0.50 from that particular ad, you need 1000 times people either go to ur page/blog or refresh your page (not so sure whether refresh counts as another).. and also you cannot monitor the effectiveness or how much u be getting... cos rite now the amount might be 0.00020 for like 10 impression for eg. thats why its not shown under ur total balance..
  • Gottin said on Sep 01, 2006....
I signed up to do this, but I can't seem to figure out how to put the code onto my page. I'm a dork when it comes to computer stuff, but I sure do like to write, which is the only reason I am here. But if I can write AND make a little money, even just that $30 a month, I would be a very happy little camper!

Can someone tell me how to do this, and what I might be doing wrong? Do I past the code into the box where I am writing the text? or is there something else I'm supposed to do with it? do I need to be standing on my head, with my tongue stuck out, and my toes crossed in order for it to work?

    thanks in advance!
  • purple said on Sep 01, 2006....
Gottin...first go here and log in https://www.google.com/adsense/
Then click on the tab MY ACCOUNT
Scroll down to the bottom where you'll see this sentence

    AdSense for Content: ca-pub-9532770543423544

Copy the part starting with ca-pub and all the numbers and that is what you put into your soulcast account page.
  • purple said on Sep 01, 2006....
To Gottin: Once you have your number, go to your soulcast 'edit your profile' and you'll see a blank to paste that number into. After you click save, you should see the ads showing up on your blog. If you don't, let us know.
  • purple said on Sep 01, 2006....
    To Tarakan
I don't know how you made so much in a month. I've only made $12, and that includes all the time I've been on google adsense before I even found soulcast or added writingup.com to my adsense account. Presently I have blogger.com., soulcast.com and writing up.com that I have my adsense number on.
As you said, you have it on a website so I guess that's a big difference. We are comparing apples and oranges. I guess if I had a website as prolific as Dave's Garden my click through rate would go way up.
But so far on websites, I've only lost money, not made money. Because any website that will let you add google adsense is not going to be one of the free kinds.
Does the cost of your website balance with the amount of your adsense earnings? It doesn't make much sense to earn $60 a month from google if hosting your webpage and paying for the domain name and shopping cart features outweighs that.
Maybe I'm just doing this all wrong.
  • StrangeOne said on Sep 01, 2006....
Ok, I'm completely new to the blogging for money concept, and this is my first blog site (I like it a lot!). But, the other day I was browsing around looking at a couple other blogs that use adsense, and I'm wondering the following:

I only have a limited amount of time per day to blog. So I'm wondering, would it make more financial sense to just stick to one site and put all my blogging there (in my case it's this one!) or would I make more money in the long haul if I also post blogs on another site? Or, since the total amount of blogs would be the same (given my limited time), would it make no difference? Someone must have a mathematical formula for this somewhere... :)

Also, is the money really cumulative? I mean, will the blog I write today still make money 5 years from now???
  • Bordy said on Sep 01, 2006....
Hell, you can c/p your posts to other sites... ones I write that I really like I also put on my wordpress account (no adsense, but I like wordpress alot)
  • Lovethebeach said on Sep 01, 2006....
I have been doing this for one week, and have not made a penny yet. I don't know what I am doing wrong either!
  • Bordy said on Sep 01, 2006....
Not doing anything wrong man, it takes time. Like I said, I made all of $0.05 last month. And now, I am going to take that money and buy an airplane.
  • purple said on Sep 01, 2006....
    That's funny Bordy.
  • Gottin said on Sep 01, 2006....
You can copy your number onto wordsense, too, Bordy? If so, I'll have to check out that site. The only other place I've been blogging is Xanga, and I like that site pretty well, but I'm not getting paid to be there...
  • Bordy said on Sep 01, 2006....
no, you cant with Wordpress unless you buy the CSS upgrade, I think.

You can do adsense for content and banner ads through text-based widgets though.

ANd you can definitely use it on Blogger
  • sigroid75 said on Sep 01, 2006....
congrats! mr. how to. i've been get some clicks.
at one time, i got like 40 clicks in one day, but only
a few bucks. at another, i got only 4 clicks, but it was
    worth another few bucks.

so i think it's not the popularity but the content of
the blogs. if you noticed, my blogs cover a wide
range of topics, including religion, travel, beauty,
observations, love, cars, food, depression, etc...
which is probably why i get a diverse variety of ads
...and maybe some of them are big companies with
high paying ads. when someone clicks on my ads,
at least i get a bigger remuneration.

but, well, it's the blogging we're after, right?
the income is a nice highlight.:-)

yes, keep blogging people and make this place happy!:-)
  • Danj3ris said on Sep 01, 2006....
$1.07 for August. My highest ever was a day in July where one click earned me $1.34.

I dont really care, I have other small streams of income, like high interest online savings accounts. Plus, I'm fine just posting whatever comes to my mind. You wanna click my ads? Be my guest. I'm not forcing you. :p

pinkjellybeans : How many blog sites do you work on? You are rolling in the dough i must say.. Keep it up! Hopefully once Google and Yahoo index ur posts and more keyword rich, your powerful blog will definitely provide you with a steady stream of traffic and thus click click click to earn you a spectacular stream of money from the Net... haha.. It's good to hear success stories from others.. Definitely boost our morale and determination to make full use of this super deal from Google... Keep on expanding our Adsense Empire frens..We never know what next year gonna be? SUrely will change our lifestye for sure.. Waking up in the morning , relax at Starbucks drink coffee and have breakfast while reading ur favourite book or surf wirelessly the Internet.. Maybe after that, go for some shopping or exercise before heading back to home to answer some blog questions or emails and generating more web development. This is certainly a GOOD ($$) hobby!
  • Tarakan said on Sep 02, 2006....
To purple. : you are absolutely right in the website thingy.. in order to have a successful website, first of all i think its the market you are targeting followed by the products or services that you are selling.. then you need to make use of search engines to bring in traffic (thats the difficult part as web design is simple) ... master search engine marketing and optimisation.. i spend a year in doing that... there are many web hosting sites that offer reasonable charges per year for your doman and websites...eg. doteasy provides free website hosting.. just pay US$25 per year for domain thats all...some top websites are using that during my research.. don't use free websites for google adsense.. thats right..Google is not cheap company. certainly they are jealous if you put their ads on some cheap websites.. haha...you have to put in effort to keep on improving your website and adding in content all the time..make ur website grow and not static and dull.. of course you have to also steadily monitor the effect of ad placement and blend it to your website.. certainly more work rather than blogging but the promises will bring in higher CTR and clicks.....

I was thinking that too, but then I went to another blog (blogfeast) I was thinking about posting on (maybe c/p posts from here), and there are scary admonitions all over that site against it! Like Google will cancel your adsense, etc. Certainly scared me out of that idea.

IVY, log on to www.google dot com/adsense and read everything in there.. also go to forums.digitalpoint dot com and read all the posts which will ans all ur questions and doubts... basically advertisers pay google who in turn put the ads into ur blog sites .. when people click on them, the advertiser pay a certain pay per click amount to google. google then shares that revenue with the website or blog owner which is u ... the % given to u is not known but it is around 30% i think..around there..
