Yesterday, I heard the song "Lion King" being played over the radio, and immediately my mind went back to the Calesa Bar at Hyatt Hotel in Manila. Last week, my wife tried out a new type of packaged "Knorr's" soup, and as I took some early sips, I seem to remember myself in my apartment alone in Manila, eating an 'Instant' meal

I also like the smell the of 'burnt' exhaust gases from a racing motorcyle engine, it takes me back to my childhood days when I cycled to the riverside in my small hometown,in the evenings to watch car ferries being pushed by boats docking in !

Does anyone else have a "favourite" song, smell or taste?

oh indeed they do!!! there are songs that remind me
of particular moments in life...scents also remind of
let's say, a family meal, my particular cologne during
    which period in my life...

whenever i smell something or hear a song from the
past, a wave of memories would then wash over me.
    it's amazing how it happens!!!

welcome back sus!!! blogging has never been the
    same without you!!! *chuckle*

Yeah when I hear "Huzur is kadar"(Hindi film-song) or "Best of my love" (Eagles), it reminds me of my x-boyfriends, and certain times when he sang the songs for me...

The smell that comes when rain falls on parched soil (it is a beautiful smell), reminds me of childhood...

The smell of old books reminds me of school libraries...

Music, tastes, but most of the time, its the smell that immediately transports me to that special memory. I don't know if you believe me, its not conscious, but I can smell christmas. When you're in the States I'm sure that's easy, with the smell of pine and all, but in the Phil. its more subtle. It's its smell of freshness, with a slight coolness that reminds me of my childish eagerness during christmas' Noche Buenas.

"You were meant for me" by jewel reminds me of those special people in my life.

The sound of the wind blowing in my ear brings back memories of spending summer at my father's hometown. Nice blog, brings back memories :)

Smells and odors, oh there's one thing I've experienced.

The smell of a sizzling sisig. Do you know this filipino dish?

It's usually a dish during social drinking.

I have a migraine and it was my first time to experience that my migraine was triggered by a smell or a scent.

Usually it is triggered by a strong stray of light that keeps the image on my sight for almost a day.

It made me vomit and rushed me to the clinic for medical attention.

I really liked sisig but starting that day...when I somewhat smell a sisig, I would hurriedly cover my nose.

the smell and taste of fresh plump blackberries takes me back to the late summer/early fall of my childhood.

certain songs take me back to high school and college.

    Mr_Right14,
Well, you sure miss a lovely dish, and added with a dash of Tabasco............ mmmmm masarap!

I am really impressed by the fact that everyone has those experiences, and they are all pleasant.
There are two more songs that 'carry me back in time' One is "Promise Me" by Beverly Craven, Again Hyatt hotel in 1995, and my favourite singer then, Jackie Cayuca!
Another song, "Voice in the Wilderness" transports me back to my childhood days, a lazy Sunday afternoon, the music wafting across the shop from a jukeboX..... My!

    Sigrid,
thanks, and I think you really miss me! :-)))

Songs and smells definitely do it.

Gio by Giorgio Armani reminds me of an old love.

Smell of rain and certain songs remind me of high school when life was carefree. And weirdworld, I agree with ya. Rain falls on parched soil IS a beautiful smell :)

I always keep a bit of every perfume I have so I can go back to certain moments in my life.

    Cheers!

    SONGS?

"I WILL BE HERE" will always be in my mind.

I'll always dedicate this song to my love ones.

    Quidnunc,
Yup, I love that bar; when I first went there in 1994, they had a carriage Wheel attached to the Ceiling!!! Hence the name? And the piano was at where the bar is now! I'll make sure I let you know the next time I pop down there.... Cheers

Have you ever tried aroma therapy? My wife is partially into it and I was surprised that there is a scent that you can buy that will "cure" a headache....it works! One whiff of that nice odor and the headache goes away...or at least you forget about it.
  • habibti said on Sep 11, 2006....
Susmaryosep, yeah! You got me there.
Well, tequila shots reminds me to buy salt and lemons, though.

More songs than I can count, some happy and some not.
    • Firefly by Uriah Heep, Hotel Calafornia by the Eagles - both have a lot of memories for me, mostly good though a bit sad as well
    • Who's To Bless and Who's To Blame by Kris Kristofferson hold a ton of sad memories
    • Three Times A Lady by the Commadores - I couldn't take hearing that one for nearly 20 years but it was important to me to have a copy of it just in case I wanted to hear it
    • Chavala from Fiddler on the Roof is one that will always bring back good memories
    • Bright Eyes by Art Garfunkle
    Just to name a few.

Searching for Nostalgia is what brought me to your blog. I notice you have other interests also. I'm kind of focused on nostalgic themes especially like yours and the people that have commented here.

So, the question is~ why haven't you posted since September?

I invite you to visit Penguinella.blogspot.com
