There's a tumor there, they can't operate because of another illness effecting her kidneys. She wants to watch her kids grow up for as long as possible before she goes.

Today a mutual friend told her a Jade Goodie joke -

'What's the similarity between Jade Goodie and a Moped? They both can't reach thirty.'

Instead of being upset or offended at the joke, she laughed. She's dying of cancer and she laughs about it.

I joke about my own mortality, with smoking, motorcycling, climbing and age.

Look at life, we live then we die. And its inevitable, we can't fight it, we just need to live with it. We deny our own mortality by believing 'it won't happen to us' or we believe in an afterlife or just try to live as long as possible.

Purely though laughing at death, we show that we do not fear it anymore, and in this action we show our true immortality.

I'm sorry to hear about your friend.  Every time I hear about this sort of thing I shake my head and count my blessings.  I'm sure there have been many times that I have tempted the witches of fate to take out their scissors and snip my thread.  Luckily I am still here, loving my kids, soaking in life good and bad, and giving love to my friends and family.

Seer, I'm truly sorry about your friend but I'm happy that she's able to laugh at death, so to speak, and keep her spirit about her.

why can't more people have that outlook?
if you keep worrying and stressing you can't enjoy the time you have.
i think your friend is very brave and stronger than most.
    my condolences.

doesn't it seem like, often times, it's the people who AREN'T ill that have problems laughing and joking and the ones that actually are suffering are the ones with the best sense of humor about it :)

I'm so sorry to hear about your friend seer.

I think the difference between those who are ill and the ones that are watching is that they focus on everything they want to do whereas we tend to be focussing constantly on how it will be when they are not here.  She sounds like a strong woman.  Just carry on being her friend and being there seer.

My sympathy for your friend. I lost my wife seven years ago to cancer. She was a very brave and possitive lady who also helped others to accept her by joking about the sickness. Yet it is no joke. At the end she died.

You can read her story at http://tinyurl.com/d6bscj In the long run, I blame myself for her death because we trusted the medical system and failed to investigate the alternative medicine route. Chemo is only showing a success rate of some 3% whilst alternative medicine is showing up to 90% success rates.

Tell your friend that life is precious. Her kids are precious and they need her alive. Trust me, the damage that was done to my kids through the death of their mother , can never be reversed. A mother can never be replaced, especially to younger children.

The medical system is designed purely with profit in mind, not to make you better! Tell her to act and research. Research will cost her nothing, but could save her life.
