Before I have a conniption, could I pick your brain?

I've been trying to set my Microsoft Outlook (2003) so that I can get the emails through my Yahoo account.  I can't quite seem to figure it out.  I guess I'm not wording my questions right in the help section because I'm getting nowhere.

I hate Microsoft Outlook because it causes me lots of trouble.  I would like to keep the email address, but just get it through the Yahoo server.

How do I do that?  What pesky little setting do I need to change?

Many thanks.

I share your opinion of Outlook.  My husband still uses it, so I'll ask him when he gets home from work.

Your Outlook uses a different e-mail address from your Yahoo one?  And you want to now receive those e-mails at Yahoo?

    Mimi,
Yes, that's how it is set up.  The email at outlook is from my network provider..  I appreciate your help.

Who's your Internet Service Provider?  I have Comcast and the last person that walked me through setting the mail up helped me (depends on the person you get and his/her temperament) get my e-mail set up so that I can send but not receive.   After one time that I got infected by opening up an e-mail I don't download mail anymore....I just leave them on the server.
Maybe you can get a tech to walk you through the procedure like I did.

I just looked and the best I could come up with was this help option.

There is a forward option as well as a redirect option.  Both leave copies of the email in the outlook box so that you'd have to periodically go in there and clear them out.

CW, I've already dealt with this myself, and unless you are a paying customer with Yahoo, for your email account(s), you cannot use their Pop server for Outlook.  I've just got one of the freebie email addresses and I can't check it anywhere else aside from at Yahoo.  I hope this helps clear up your quandary before you spend hours checking on it as I did.

If I read correctly, you want to do just the opposite -- see the email you
usually see on Outlook through Yahoo. If that is correct, this is probably
    what you want ...

I should tell you that that help page seems to be a little out of date, so you
will have to get to where it says a new way.

Did same thing about 2 weeks ago,

    1. go into your outlook seetings, click box marked advanced, then make sure pop/fw/ol box is unchecked,
    2. go to your smtp and make sure you type in your email address with the yahoo portion in quotation marks
    3. apply the settings
    4. go to your yahoo account and open advanced settings
    5. where you enter your email address in the smtp box enter "outlook/gofor/yahoo.smtp334r"
    6. apply settings
    7. send test email and all should be fine

PS. i dont have a clue and just made of this up

Thank you all for your suggestions!  (A shout out to Ed for making a special appearance.)

I accidentally figured it out just before I checked this post.

Here is how I did it:

    Open your Yahoo email account.
Go to "mail" and then click on accounts.
    Click on "add"
    There you are prompted for:
email address of the account you want to bring in
    account name
password (of the email account you're pulling into yahoo from your server)
service provider email account (mine was mail.blahblah.net)
***Those things you can find on your computer's control panel under "internet options".  I was lucky enough that I remembered my password.
After you plug in all this information at Yahoo, it will tell you that you now send and recieve messages for the email address in question through your default yahoo account.)

It worked!  Outlook had clogged almost 3,000 messages that I couldn't receive.  They would come through just a few at a time.  Then it would stall out and start all over again.  After I got it set up, all of those message came in quickly.  I'm so very happy to be able to keep the email address and be rid of the pitfalls of Outlook.

    Anyway...

Everyone has a favorite.  Yahoo happens to be mine.
