Those crispy, crunchy little gems seem to be calling to me today.

I passed the vending machine in the hallway that runs from the enterance of the building closest to the parking lot and the stairs leading to my office. I knew I shouldn't have taken a second glance at it. And the lunch I brought from home didn't satisfy that craving. (I only wish I could blame this sudden need for chips on Silver's food craving post.)

So, if you just had to grab a bag of chips because nothing else would do, what would it be? What's your favorite brand, type (ridges or no), flavor?

my absolute favorite type of potato chip is a thick-cut style with sour cream & onion. if that isn't available, i'll cheerfully munch away on cheese-flavored chips.

my wife is partial to dill pickle-flavored chips, which personally i find weird. she's also a fan of salt & vinegar, which i find a tad strong, personally.

My mouth just watered! Now I have a craving. I looove Pringles...sour cream and onions are my favorite and cheese comes in on a very close second.

Man! I gotta go get me some chips :)

My absolutely favorite have to have chips are Moore's Honey BBQ chips; unfortunately they are local to my parents region, so I only get them when I go home to visit.

Silver: I'm like your wife in regards to potato chips; if i'm craving chips, it has to be Salt & Vinegar (first choice) or the dill pickle-flavored ones. :)

I absolutely hate Sour Cream and Onion chips, which happen to be my husband's favorites.

somehow, the fact that our tastes actually do vary on something is making me strangely happy, super z. :>

    I like Wise lightly salted..
You can never find them in my house because the kids demolish them upon entry.

    Probably a good thing-

One of the things I try to avoid in the supermart are the potato chips section. I'm a muncher for any kind of potato chips (lightly salted ones), wheat grains snack included.

Pringles, Frito Lays, Piknik, Korn Kurls even. I always rip the bag open and finished a quarter of the contents just before it reaches the cashier's counter.

I'm a kid at heart, when it comes to potato chips, ice cream, apple pie and root beer. :)

My two favorites are Baked Lays (original) and Wise NY Deli Kettle Cooked Jalapeno. Cape Cod 40% Less Fat chips are good (they're kettle cooked too) because they are thick and crunchy and have less fat (duh).

I only like to eat chips with a sandwich or some sort of dip; I don't like them plain out of a bag.
  • Zayda said on Aug 31, 2006....
Silver: Well, there had to be something out there we disagreed on, eventually. :) I do love Lays Cheddar and Sour Cream Chips. I think the problem with most Sour Cream and Onion chips, for me, is that they are too "powdery" in the flavoring on them.

I have become a big fan of Kettle-Cooked chips because they are thick and crunchy.

Pringles had some limited edition Salsa Verde chips--excuse me--crisps that I actually really liked.

IPJ, I tend to eat them mostly with sandwiches as well. I'm not big on dip unless it's salsa, queso, or guacamole, and then I go for tortilla chips.

I like the cheap, off brand nacho chips. They have more flavor than Doritos, but I can never find them in stores!

Good lords, I just satifised my cravings for chips. just bought myself 3 bags of it and finished them in one go. Now you make me wanna go buy some more and stuffs them all in one go.

My favourite is Pringles, especially salt & vinegar (maybe we should have a poll what flavour chips are favoured by readers).

I agree with Zayda, most sour cream & onion does feel very powdery.

Where I am, some chips aren't cheap especially Lay's, Kettles, etc those imported stuffs. So.. I had to satisfy myself with local brand names for chips, hoping that they have salt & vinegar, which is a long shot as not everyone locally likes that flavour, so I'm stuck with wasabi-flavoured, BBQ, hot n spicy etc. It's just not the same as good old salt & vinegar.

However, after finishing those chips, why do I always get so thirsty??? Too many MSG, perhaps? Those aren't good for health... kids shouldn't be eating them, should they?

Silver: I bet there are more; we just have to find them.
  • silverwhisper said on Aug 31, 2006....
heh...honestly, i'd be curious to see what else there was along those lines. :>

btw: super z, check out the welcome n00bs thread in HT. :>

    Honestly, I would too. :)

    I surely will, hun.

BTW, anyone like Sweet Potato Chips?

I have a penchant for noshing on Terra Chips occassionally. But it's only once in a great while that I get a hankering for them.

I like crisps but unfortunately they don't like me so I try to steer clear of them.

Parsnip crisps are quite tasty btw.

NO NO NOOOOOOOOOO it's all so WRONG!!!

This post confused the hell outta me!

"Chips", are what Americans might call chunky french fries!

These are indeed made out of potato, and as far as I'm concerned are real potato chips.

What you are refering to I think you'll find are in fact what we call "crisps".

Appologies for my preaching today lol...am in one of those moods ;)

Harvest Cheddar Sun Chips all the way, baby!

mr how to: as these are actually an american invention (invented in new york state, in fact), perhaps you should consider redirecting your vitriol?

I love Terra Chips, but only in original flavor. My boss brought in a bag of tomato-basil, and they were quite foul. I also tried Mediterranean, but they were nasty too. I recently discovered Terra Stix, which are delightful when inserted into a sandwich (to add the extra crunch, you know).

The only dip I like is homemade Knorr's Leek Soup Dip. It is soooo much better than any other onion dip (plus, you can use reduced fat sour cream, so it is not quite as fatty).

Salsa, queso, and guacamole are explicitly reserved for tortilla chips. I like a local brand of "red" chips, which are delicious, followed closely by blue chips. If I must eat a common brand, I like Tostitos Gold.

    yum. Salt and Vinegar.

Few things in regards to food were safe in my house growing up, and when you found that one food no one would eat, you made sure it ended up on the shopping list so you could have it all to yourself.
  • Zayda said on Sep 01, 2006....
    Ohhh...IPJ...Terra Stix sound good.
