Have you ever heard of Tesla Motors?

When you think of electric cars, what comes to mind? Little freaky looking geek-mobiles? Big enough to hold one small adult with hunched shoulders and a small bag of groceries?

Tesla Motors is blowing that stereotype clean out of the water!

Their 1st production car was the Tesla Roadster.......a super cool looking sports car with some impressive credentials like going from 0 to 60 in 3.9 seconds! A range of over 200 miles, and half the cost to drive than a prius! The $100,000 price tag puts it out of most of our range, but that was just the 1st.

Tesla has announced the upcoming release of their 2nd model, the Model S.
Sleek styling, room for 7, and 300 miles on a single charge makes the $50,000 price tag look very tempting......My wife took one look and was in love.....now I just have to save for the next two years until it is released!

I hope this company does well....this is the future of Automobiles....now if we can just get the government to cooperate with energy production.

That's one good looking ride. There should be a lot of interest at the 50k price.
  • D6fer said on Mar 28, 2009....
You would think so......I read that it would cost you about 5 bucks to drive it 200 miles......and no oil changes!
  • gingersoul said on Mar 28, 2009....
I would buy it in a heartbeat....if i had all that money...:-)

I agree with you.....the industry needs to go in this direction.

I am considering to go hybrid next month when my Nissan Versa lease will expire....i have to do some money wise research first...

ginsoul- If you want to buy good economy and quality at the at the lowest price look at Honda Fit, Toyota Yaris, and Hyundai Elantra for 14-15 thousand. A hybrid would probably cost at least 7-8 thousand more and these three get in the thirties in mileage.

Hyundai quality is excellent now and that Elantra has more room and a free five year/50 thousand mile bumper to bumper warranty.

Honda Civic is a great car too, but costs a bit more.

BeyBey.....thank you very much.....i was actually thinking about a Hyundai.....what about the Ford Hybrid? Do you like it?

     Paper Cars,Bailouts, and Gas

Beware..Telsacompany has a way of taking money and talking about all these cars it will build then they don't materialize.  Don't fall for it.  GM's Volt is a half hearted attempt by GM to comply with mandates for lower gas mileage.  They had to push the prototype to the photo shoot. It will have wings so the executives can fly to Washington and beg for a bailout. Also, people want a cheaper car that is green. I think China is making a paper car that runs on wood.  India is making a 1 door sedan running about $2000. It runs on an oval track with a wire down the middle.  It can be operated inside or outside the car with remote control. It will run on methane gas..you guessed it, produced by the bull-shitting company executives who steal going in, take a bonus, then scream for a bailout.  Need your home bailed out because of an impossible mortgage?  NO!  No money for you! What are you a Communist? Besides, The government needs your taxes to pay for the bail-outs for company executives.

GM tested electric cars in Los Angeles for 20 years.  About 50 lucky people were crazy about them.  They were fast, would go a long way between charges and cost almost nothing to maintain. What Happened?(Reported by the Los Angeles Times) They showed up without notice, ripped the  cars away from the hysterical owners (one tried to hide his, unsuccessfully). The cars were whisked out of the city in secret....AND DESTROYED.

Do you know who Tesla was? I just saw a show about him and Edison
on the History Channel a couple of weeks ago. He was Edison's rival.
One of them was pushing DC (Edison, I think) and the other (Tesla)
was pushing AC. Edison electrocuted an elephant with AC, and killed
it, to show how dangerous AC was (what a bastard). Tesla was
mentioned in the movie The Prestige, but I only saw part of that so
    far.

ginsoul- I don't know a lot about hybrids except basically how they operate and their expense. From what I've seen on price, you could buy a few years worth of gas for the others just from cost difference. Personally, I'd rather wait for better technology on batteries and get an all electric car later, probably a few years.

alien- I've read quite a lot about Tesla including a biography. One of the most brilliant men in history.

It sounded like he was as weird, phychologically, as Howard Hughes. He
compulsive about a lot of stuff.

alien....George Westinghouse was the guy pushing teslas idea.....I saw that documentary a few years ago....very interesting.

freesexadvisor.....Tesla is building several dealerships this year......they have a pretty impressive team with experience in the industry. You can check it out here.

alien- He was obsessive-compulsive. In the biography it said when walking in town he couldn't make a right turn. Regardless of where he was going he had to get there making only left turns which as you can imagine could add a bit to his trip.

I've been following the tesla cars for a while. I hope they can get the prices down to the 50k range. I'd seriously consider getting on at that price.
  • D6fer said on Apr 02, 2009....
The site says that the model S will be 50k......I think you have to put 5k down to get on the list and they will begin deliveries in 2011.
  • bloc said on Apr 02, 2009....
Ouch, that's a bit too much of a commitment for me.
  • D6fer said on Apr 03, 2009....
The CEO's blog said that they were going to partner with Daimler to build an electric version of the smart car....that should be more affordable....a bit small though....He also said that there would be more models to come and more partnerships with other car companies.

I hope that they offer some kind of retrofit for existing combustion engine vehicles to either replace or enhance the current engine.
